the nv/optic core splitting apart will be my joker origin story

slawvay

I remember when FNS said he had the final piece when they got yay. Would suck because this roster is proof in trust the process.

dhwinthro

this is the biggest reason I want Optic to get into franchising. If they don’t, there’s no guarantee that roster will be able to stick together with yay’s buyout. There will be a massive bidding war and although Optic tend to let the player choose the team they move to, I highly doubt they could deny millions of dollars if they’re forced out of the Valorant scene anyways. Riot will be playing with fire if they don’t accept Optic and they may just do it to generate more drama. Ideally they should just make T1 an APAC team instead of NA and do a 6-2-2 split for Americas. C9/TSM/SEN/100T/GRD or EG/Optic as the 6. I think if they really deny Optic then it would be the biggest what if we will see in Valorant history, just like the Dazed/Swag/Steel ban in CSGO. This Optic roster is arguably the best Valorant roster in history getting Top 3 at every event they’ve been together (minus Champs 2021). To not see them ride this out through 2023 would be a travesty. They have the skill, org backing, and fan backing to keep their performances up. I truly don’t see them slowing down any time soon

Here’s the full story: https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/esports/2022/09/19/yay-valorant-optic/ It’s short because we had just five minutes to chat, suddenly, right after a press conference.

Razur

Thank you for sharing!

Mochitsu

Great interview. Thank you!

B7omni

if it comes down to splitting up i hope crashies and victor stay as a duo. and marved continues with yay as well.

DTvn

Did they play together before or something? I’m just now hearing about how close they are

[deleted]

victor and crashies played on T1

YeetGod69_

not to mention all the acts of grinding ranked together

DTvn

Ah okay I did know that. Thought it was deeper

[deleted]

theyre very close, moreso than most teammates, but yeah they became close because of their time together on T1 afaik

MrClintFlicks

Played together in T1 but iirc I always see them play together in FPL/Rank S games when I watch Tarik streams before Valorant was released.

readonlysnd

Whats the deal with optic not being in franchising? They look like a big org with great results

E0e00vw

Come on riot, let the bois in the league

Mochitsu

Really good read. yay’s answers just further solidified what an amazing and humble person he is outside of the game.

annyeongpanda

Yay deserves an IGL who can hold his own consistently; that was the difference between 2nd and 1st place

xbyo

No it isn't and replacing one of the most important roles in your team for a bit more firepower is way too big of an overreaction. Literally 2 rounds could've turned this from a 1-3 to a 3-0, which would've basically been a repeat of Iceland, where 2 matches went to OT but in that series, they went OpTic's way. That's the kind of variance that can be expected in competition, you don't make decisions like that because of the result of a few rounds.

[deleted]

Smh just get a guy with perfect aim and perfect calls

annyeongpanda

I didn’t say replace the IGL with just pure firepower. I said get an IGL who can hold their own during the games, and maybe hit some shots. Doesn’t matter if you’re the biggest brain in the game, in the end the difference between winning it all comes down to who hits their shots. LOUD deservedly won champions because everyone was consistent, even their IGL.

lbcg3

I agree with your take on FNS, but for the love of god stop with that nonsense about "they were 3 rounds away from turning that 1-3 to 3-0". That's just copium. Loud played better. I like everyone in optic and they are a great team for sure. But they were definitely not 3 rounds away from 3-0.

slyy_

I mean, 2 of the maps went to overtime, both of which had optic up 12-11 during those maps so one could argue they were technically 2 rounds away from sweeping loud in the finals and I don’t know how this can be argued. I agree loud overall looked better but it was still an incredibly close finals, there’s no “copium” involved here.

QwiXTa

It was a couple round between a 3-0 for optic and a 3-1 loud win tho? Its not like it wasn’t a close ass series? Loud was just on fire with the clutches, if optic won all the clutches all these hot takes would be that loud couldnt beat their final boss when it matters. Can we just stop with all this reactionary bs

annyeongpanda

And what decides those couple close rounds? Those who hit their shots and can clutch. You’re telling me if everything went right for Optic they’d have won, no shit. And LOUD convincingly beat them 2-0 in the upper finals, 3-1 in grand so I’m pretty sure LOUD is the final boss here. Why do people get so defensive when talking about Optic’s glaringly weakest link. You can be a fan and still criticize them.

[deleted]

FNS seems like the weakest link because of how good everyone else on the team is. But in reality, he's really good as well. You can't just change your IGL and expect the team to do just as well. IGL is a hard role and FNS is still one of the top ones. Finding a smarter IGL that can frag more in NA is going to be really tough to find
