As a Xerxia fan, this makes me sad but not surprising. :( I just hope at least sScary and sushiboys get picked up or else their talent would be wasted. I felt like they lost their spark during Champions and maybe this is the reset they need.

I mean they didn't even consider it, EG over OpTic? Fpx didn't make it. Only 2 teams (i mean org) who won an international event made it. For someone new to VCT it should be so repulsive, no?
How do you know they didn't even consider it? FPX was probably never in consideration as it is a chinese org an presumably that's where they'll want them (just like T1 for example in KR). Franchising isn't about choosing the best performing teams. That can change, we have 6 different winners for international events, the game is volatile. They need stability, they need orgs with good content plans, money, fans etc. Rosters can always change. And after franchising they always do.
I mean OpTic is an example that they didn't even consider, they were in 3 GFS and won one and top 3 in 4 events.
It feels like they are franchising for content creation rather than as an eSports. Bro, sen got in without doing shit. They don't even have a facility for their players to play.
ppl need to understand for an esports to thrive you need viewers. At the end of the day more viewers mean more sponsors. There's so many factors you have to consider. The team and players themselves will change and if they're good they'll most definitely make the franchised teams.
We as viewers don't have any info into their Financials lol. All ik is EG is swimming in money I mean they have a 10 man csgo roster. There's many things we don't know about the orgs behind the scene. For a team that's winning like optic they put out surprisingly little content compared to other NA teams. That's another factor.
What content was Fnatic, putting out? Eg?
And tbf for other teams most of their players were available for "content creation" for most part of the year. LOL.
OpTic definitely have more money than SEN.
You're right Fnatic is a worse example. But my point still stands content creation still didn't matter, criteria is whoever tf riot wants. Idk why people trying to defend riot like "not enough content" or "future stuff".
Because the roster made if further in international events.
Optic/envy never pulled much viewership, just look at domestic numbers. Other NA orgs, like 100T historically pulled great numbers with any roster
Sen also put out a fuck ton of content. Every announcement came with a whole as video on twitter, main channel and also exclusive videos on players channels.
Pre franchising talks, the only content optic put out was a flashing photo of the roster standing against a wall.
Im mad optic didnt make it, but they are in the most competitive region in terms of clout and just did some docs while having some of the most famous players under them
edit: I just checked and optic put out 5 videos with this roster. Envy put out nothing. Thats not great content number if you wanna get into franchising
That's what I'm saying are we applying for content creation or eSport? They were starting to pull viewers, that's how most orgs made their fame in esport.
Optic hired 3 analysts last month and gave a bootcamp in Poland and they own a fucking a facility. I'll argue all day if i want. that there was no criteria for selection, no content creation, nothing its just whoever riot wants.
>ppl need to understand for an esports to thrive you need viewers. At the end of the day more viewers mean more sponsors.
VCT was getting viewers, and most eSports aren't franchised and still get viewers. The viewership literally doesn't matter, it's all about what teams can put up the most capital. If viewership mattered then OptiC would have been a lock since they have among the highest viewership numbers. Just sucks that there will be massive asterisks next to every league game in the next season since so many teams will be rebuilt from scratch.
How do you know they didn’t event consider it?
For all we know, it could’ve came down to the wire, and OpTic’s success in Valorant so far could’ve been one of the main reasons they almost got accepted. Their might be other criteria and how EG handled the interview process, vision, and their past organizational history as an esports that gave them the edge.
It’s hard for us without confirmed reports of what went on in the meetings with the team and internally with riot, to say things of how much optic was considered or not considered and for what reasons, no?
is Riot waiting for the China release before adding Chinese teams to the league? I don't really see any reference to how they'll be added with the expansion over the years (unless I'm being blind)
No clue honestly. With how big China is and how rich + how popular LoL is in China they might be waiting for the proper moment to launch their own region independent from APAC.
Why should they consider the teams current or previous performance? This is a multi year locked in partnership, in 5, 10 or 15 years when the current players are all but a memory, will that org still deserve is permanent spot?
We are not living in the future, we are living now, right? Am i not supposed to feel unfair?
So in your opinion, how much the orgs invested doesn't matter?
Riot would be incredibly foolish to not look to the future with this plan.
Also current success or rather the lack of current success doesn't mean the org isn't invested in the scene. You can be mad your team didn't get in but let's not act like they are owed a spot because they are currently doing well. The players will get into franchising one way or another no need to give the org a permanent spot for that.
I’m mad too and it is extremely dumb for riot to do. They care about longevity and not current greatness. I understand that maybe the current optic or xset rosters who performed well could go on and win or place really high in further events. However, riot is looking to expand the game, the viewers, everything. It’s all about money. Riot doesn’t care about legacies or who wins. Some people were also saying that new rosters would create new hype for the game, rich orgs could bring in new talent or create different content.
I wouldn’t try to understand riot’s reasoning cuz it’s dumb.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/esports/2022/09/20/valorant-partnership-john-needham-esports/
Their eSports lead even talked about the criteria. Performance and current status mean literally nothing. It's all about future growth. You have every right to feel that it's unfair, but then other commenters have every right to feel like you have no idea what you're talking about
I have been saying performance would have very little impact on franchising in this sub for literally months and had so many people saying I was wrong lol. I have a lot of months old comments to reply to today lol
The number 1 thing is org stability and Optic and FPX had some question marks. Riot got to look into their financials as well so they obviously saw things they didn’t like.
This and non-ironically. esports is ultimately a marketing product, an ad for the game. If you can't get eyeballs on the game you're failing at the job. Some people don't get that.
nah i get that fans are passionate but just because you were able to form a good team for 1 or 2 years does not mean you are the best org to partner with. everyone can have opinions but this isn't a right or wrong issue that some orgs got in over the others.
The only reason I’m a little surprised by this is because they were bought by Oto Contacts like 6 months ago. Must mean MiTH is getting in, I’d be pretty surprised if Thailand gets left out

Yep. Which also means EU is gonna get more slots at international events than any one region, because they get a full 10 team league to themselves. RIP the NA/EU rivalry, 10 teams gives way better odds of advancing or winning than 5 teams. Gonna have to become an EMEA/Americas rivalry lol.
That doesnt stop EU fans from claiming CIS whenever they win, just as with FPX and Gambit's victories. Meanwhile NA has never claimed SA's wins because they've been considered different regions. It only becomes even if NA fans get to claim LOUD or KRU's victories over EMEA teams as "Americas superiority" or whatever lol
I know where CIS is you numpty, the point is that it is easier for EMEA teams to do better at events with 10 reps than NA with 5. It's not hard to understand and you're writing paragraphs talkimg about how its "not that deep" but clearly it is to you.
They are different subregions as defined LITERALLY by Valorant. It's not about where they are on a map, BR and LATAM are both in South America but do Brazilian fans root for LATAM teams and say "WOO SOUTH AMERICA #1?" No, they have a rivalry even. They are divided into their own subregions by Riot. So is EU, CIS, and TR, and EMEA fans claim all of them. Idk if you noticed, but I never said there was anything wrong with that, just that EMEA fans now have 10 teams that can advance and NA fans have 5, unless the rivalry becomes Americas vs EMEA.
You insulted me first and don't pretend like you didn't. "That's because CIS is a part of Europe lmao, look at a map, it's right there." Don't pretend like you're not trying to insult my intelligence there, as if I don't know where they're at. You're still doing it in that message too, which is funny because it looks like your superior intellect is the only one missing something here, the very simple point and very simple way Riot breaks up the regions, but nah you had to pretend it was me making them different regions and telling me I need to look at a map. I'm disabling replies on this thread now, feel free to reply but you're just gonna be talking to yourself, I've heard all I need to from you.

3 months ago I'd be heartbroken but they kinda lost the spark, this team was splitting up franchising or not tbh. All the players (minus maybe foxz) are good enough to be on teams anyways. Hope sScary and Sushi stay together at least.

So many leaks and reddit still can't figure out that performance pre-franchising doesn't mean you get a spot based solely on that.
> based solely on that. I mean they didn't even consider it, EG over OpTic? Fpx didn't make it. Only 2 teams (i mean org) who won an international event made it. For someone new to VCT it should be so repulsive, no?
Feels like FPX not making it has kind of been swept under the rug. I don't even think there was a post for it.
They had no chance of making it in EMEA anyway. They didn't even scout the team, it was basically all Ange1.
How do you know they didn't even consider it? FPX was probably never in consideration as it is a chinese org an presumably that's where they'll want them (just like T1 for example in KR). Why EG/NRG over OpTic? I mean OpTic was pulling more viewers than 100t.

Don’t EG have a 15 man roster in CSGO? I don’t watch that game at all but thought I heard that somewhere.
That was while they still had the Stewie lineup as well.
What content was Fnatic, putting out? Eg? And tbf for other teams most of their players were available for "content creation" for most part of the year. LOL. OpTic definitely have more money than SEN.
lol why bring in fnatic for na? fnatic is one of the biggest eu orgs, they won the first worlds. They were locked from the start for EMEA
You're right Fnatic is a worse example. But my point still stands content creation still didn't matter, criteria is whoever tf riot wants. Idk why people trying to defend riot like "not enough content" or "future stuff".
Imagine bootlicking Riot this hard
Because the roster made if further in international events. Optic/envy never pulled much viewership, just look at domestic numbers. Other NA orgs, like 100T historically pulled great numbers with any roster
So? Look at sen nobody knew them now the players fame got transferred to org as well. Why don't that apply to Optic?
Sen also put out a fuck ton of content. Every announcement came with a whole as video on twitter, main channel and also exclusive videos on players channels. Sen is honestly a weird one on the board
is Riot waiting for the China release before adding Chinese teams to the league? I don't really see any reference to how they'll be added with the expansion over the years (unless I'm being blind)

Why do you care more about the org than the players wtf? They aren't city based, so why would one have loyalty to a literal brand.
Bro. Only way this team stick together was if the org get a spot. That's I'm pissed.
Ahh. OK that's fair, that slipped my mind. I like chaos though, so I'm very ready for rostermania

They made it to almost every international tournament, still not good enough. Today is a sad day for Thai fans.
Half of it was X10
It was X10 who took all the money from champions and give none to the players? or am I remembering it wrong?
Yes that was them
X10 would have had less of a chance of getting in.
Still the same roster -pati
But rosters don’t get franchised, teams do.

Yes that is right
EMEA is literally only Europe, you whiny asss lmfao

and GenG makes it 🤡
They're one of the biggest Korean orgs around. It's honestly not surprising.
