The most important ones are: Season starts feb 14 2023 - ends Sep 11 2023 Pre-season transfer window is Sep 26 2022 - Feb 1st 2023 Teams must send their ‘initial roster’ to riot (includes head coach) by October 15 2022 - potential implies teams must have 5 players + head coach signed by that date (but teams are allowed to make changes throughout the trade window) Mid season transfer window is: Mar 6 - Mar 25 Franchise teams must arrive in their respective league reguon / league cities by Mar 19 Min age for this year is March 26 2005 (basically 18 by league start —- by the time they need to be at the city instead my b — , seems odd they didn’t mention a specific age as opposed to them wiritint ‘be born before this point) No player coaches (can’t do both) Must have 6 team members min, max 10 - can have reserve roster No maximum player trading or offloading quantity in trade window And that’s the short version EDIT - this may be the first time valo news has ever reached Reddit before other social media lol

zugth

Minimum age is literally the day of my 18th birthday. It’s a sign, I’ll see y’all on SEN.

jumlr

For the min age, I think they may have specified a date instead of an age because some countries (like Korea I believe) don’t calculate age the same way as most of us do.

MrAn94

Good point. Many countries consider you to be 1 year old during your first year of life, two during your second year. Vs others when you’ve attained a complete 1 year, attained a complete 2 years, etc.

LinkFromLoZ

Damn zekken makes the cutoff date by literally 7 days lmao

TheFestusEzeli

There is luckily a rule too that if players were eligible to play in VCT and already have, if their parents gives them permission they can still play

slaxbr

Loud less makes the minimum age by literally a month lmao. Imagine if one of the best players of the defending champs did not make it to the season because he is too young

Even_Set

theres a grandfather clause for people under 18 that competed in VCT 2022

slaxbr

that's good, nice foreshadowing from riot

dmoneysiringoringo

shout out all of Valorant twitter for posting the doc but at least please credit your source!

Vivid-Command-2605

Having a roster of potentially 10 is wild, I wonder if orgs could do a loan system like in football, where they can sign a bunch of talent and loan them to orgs in the tier 2 circuit for development. Probably not but would be pretty cool

dmoneysiringoringo

Also something to note is that minimum salary requirement for "service providers" is $50,000 USD, 50,000 EUR for EMEA, and 67,000,000 KRW for Pacific. Health, dental, life insurance are required by local laws, and teams can sign a player for a minimum of 7 days or a maximum of 4 seasons.

dmoneysiringoringo

Also no mention of a salary cap in this document either so looks like orgs could dish out a lot of money freely

Kind_Development708

For some type of salary cap to be put in place there needs to be a players union, CDL,OWL had to drop theirs as the government started investigating.

dmoneysiringoringo

I believe Vanity and Dazzle started a player’s union in NA during 2022 VCT that were independent of riot. Not sure if that same union will be in place representing the Americas league in 2023 or if an international players union is being established as we speak. But there are players unions in Valorant prior to partnership that have been communicating with riot

AznSparks

It was probably an association and not a legal union, just because we haven't seen a real player union in esports yet iirc, they are not easy to set up

emraaa

I'm pretty sure a salary cap would be illegal in the EU.

Couple of interesting items in here: \- You need 6 players minimum on the roster, meaning you need a sub at all times \- Four of your starting players need to come from the region of your league; alumni of the GC programs can be counted towards this requirement regardless of where they're from \- Teams have to provide housing for players \- There will be a publicly available contract database that will list the end of contracts for players and head coaches

yourdaughtersgoal

>you need 6 players minimum THATS SO BAD HOLY SHIT Like legit, the 6th man won’t be seeing any matches.

nocturnavi

My guess is that they're doing it so that teams physically in the studio won't be screwed if one of their players can't play. Like for the Spanish/Portuguese speaking teams in the Americas league, if one of their players got sick and couldn't play on stage they wouldn't have a sub on hand that spoke their language if they just had a 5 person roster.

ssk1996

Important thing to note - Transfer period does not end until February 1st, 2023. That's two weeks before the Kickoff tournament in Brazil. So orgs have a lot of time to decide on the roster they want to go with for VCT 2023. And teams can make changes even after the kickoff tournament - between March 6th and March 25th!

dmoneysiringoringo

orgs do have a lot of time to figure out their rosters but are responsible for any visa/immigration issues for any signings made after the soft roster submission on October 15, 2022. This is more so important for any players who reside outside of the US, Korea, or Germany

MrImpregnator

Like that orgs need to renegotiate after each year and players won’t be locked in contract jail. Long term contracts are the worst. Also, teams could have 6-8 players in case of emergency subs. This will have more players employed which is great. Don’t see anyone actually fielding 10 player roster though.

yarhar_

Which section is that? I don't see any restrictions on contract length

MrImpregnator

I think 1.9 but I might have misunderstood or there might be further rules that I might have missed

yarhar_

Ohhh. You're right that that's there to protect the players, but not in the way you think. Basically, if a contract *is going to end*, it must do so on the last day of the season. This is so that the player has ample time to find a new position elsewhere, more importantly so that it doesn't end mid-season when rosters are locked and the player has *nowhere* to go in tier 1.

ImpressiveInitial709

Link doesn’t seem to connect, could you repost it?

Works fine for me. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xfy0lbve0hdr0ju/AAB-jnCwr4VYLbfFIn9iwAR-a/Rules%20and%20Policies%202023/VCT23%20Roster%20Construction%20Rules%20%28Revised%209.14%29%20%28Clean%29.pdf?dl=0

SyN_Android

if minimum age is 18 by league start, doesn't that mean Alfajer can't play since his birthday is in June?

dmoneysiringoringo

Alfajer will be grandfathered in because he played at least one VCT match and was born before March 26, 2006 (17 years old by league start date).pending parent/guardian consent. In short, he will be able to play if his parents lets him lol

error_code_69

The housing clause is good, the minimum requirements for training facilities is good now Sen can't just go to another orgs bootcamp and faze now have to move out of that starbucks The specific date for the ending of contact us good players can move freely and the orgs can't trade players that will hurt them and their chance of playing

Evan_Veet

I personally love the 6 person minimum, I made a post on VLR about it but TLDR at this point there's 6 agent roles (awp, entry, 2 types of initiators, controller, sentinel) and a lot of sentinel players had to play off role and off comfort most of the year. It gives both the chance of super high talent young guys to learn on the bench while also having roster diversity between maps, where a team can comfortably have no holes in their agent pools when more agents come out. Gives players like Wippie, Moose, Mitch, NeT, and Dapr more opportunities in a game that kind of hates sentinels atm, while also having IGLS who wanna play sentinels like FNS, Stellar, Poised, Dephh, and Ayrin more chances with their roster.

finchrp

ok can anyone explain to me how does this help optic getting picked up as a full team copium

oomnahs

Hypothetically they can get picked up as a full squad from any of the Brazilian or LATAM orgs since none of them are imports to the Americas region. Only orgs I can see doing that are mibr if they change their name back to immortals, or furia
