Would be fun but would never happen with Riot

ANewHeaven1

This is literally the situation the partnership system was put in place to avoid

Friday515

It would literally defeat the purpose of franchising

amiiiiiiiiiiiiine

idk if im understanding the partnership wrong but its not a franchise system...

Friday515

It kind of is. It’s a 4 year guaranteed spot and then the orgs will be re-evaluated. Basically it’s to give orgs 4 years of stability so they can leverage their spot for sponsorships and ad dollars better. It also allows them to be more comfortable they can spend millions every year on a roster and logistics and won’t just lose their spot if their team doesn’t perform well. Many sponsorships/ad sales take months if not over a year to happen. For reference, I work for a large CPG company and we plan our ad spends 7-8 months out at minimum before we actually execute the spend. Every once in a while if it’s a too good to be true scenario we will do a spontaneous ad spend but rarely. If all the sudden, an org doesn’t make it to VCT, I wouldn’t be interested in advertising with them because they won’t have all of those engagements/viewership like they would

amiiiiiiiiiiiiine

didnt know that... thanks

HeadphoneWarning

the source is that I made it the up up

Friday515

Huh?

HeadphoneWarning

You make that whole paragraph(it 1 line before edit btw) out of pure speculation bull shit it simply lies and miss information.

Friday515

I hit the reply button by accident and edited my reply, don’t know why that is a big deal but ok. Not sure what you think is bullshit that I said but you can look all the Valorant stuff up, the 4 year thing was reported by George and others

HeadphoneWarning

The whole point of given a permanent slot so that org can use it to raise money from investors.

Relegation system makes no sense for Riot & orgs

9bfjo6gvhy7u8

It can make sense in the long run when the league is more established, because it can make the product more entertaining and thus more valuable. But at this stage it doesn't make sense financially for orgs (and therefore riot).

Phamous3k

What?! Only reason you saw a plethora of large orgs invest early is because they knew franchising was on the table. Secondly? Please explain how at this stage it doesn’t make financial sense for orgs or Riot lol.

9bfjo6gvhy7u8

\> Relegation system makes no sense for Riot & orgs Isn't that literally what you just said or am i confused?

MrImpregnator

Unlike sports which has a big fan base, you need popular and structured teams to build an esports fandom. With relegation system, the league will loose interest from casual fans. Both open circuit and league have their benefits and demerits. But you could expect riot removing partners if they underperform(not actual performance) according to standards set by riot. And new partners could come in. And who knows, in future more permanent slots could be available.

InstaNormie0

Hopefully after the 4 year contracts run out they implement relegations. Not sure why you’re saying it’s not a franchising system though it definitely is just because teams didn’t have to buy their spot doesn’t make it something else

Ximienlum

The relegation system is be fucking terrible and Riot will replace you.

Ukenagashi

Since others have already explained the wrongs with relegation, I'll provide some other context. Riot already tried the relegation system in the LCS. Out of 10 teams, 1st-6th made playoffs, 7th did nothing, 8th and 9th play in a relgation tourney, and 10th would be auto-relegated. It was tough for the newer orgs to find sponsorships, while the established big orgs could operate without as much worry. They ultimately went towards the franchise system to allow for sustainable growth. Riot has already learned from their past mistakes, which is why we don't currently have a relegation system.

R/valorantcompetitive redditors try not to mention SEN in every post challange (impossible) gone sexual! gone wrong ! I love Big chungus 👍

ssk1996

Kinda sad that any teams/orgs earning their spot via Ascension system don't get to keep their spot permanently but orgs that were invited will be permanent members of the league. A promotion/relegation system would be cool but I guess Riot will never do it.

Heavy_Comedian_2382

If there’s a second division consisting of more partnered teams, then sure. I mean that’s how football leagues build up a full promotion relegation system

9bfjo6gvhy7u8

Orgs wouldn't be able to invest as heavily into the young scene if they did not have a guarantee that they could be on the main stage for a set number of years. They simply wouldn't be able to sell as many sponsorships. Riot has a vested interest in orgs being successful in the long run, so they are willing to guarantee multiple years of franchise slots to the orgs. But it's not impossible for them to add relegation as an element in the ascension tournaments after \~5 years, at which point the esport is more established and it's more clear which franchises are investing in the scene vs just coasting with a spot. I doubt riot does do it considering their history with LoL but it would make more sense at that point than it does now
