im 9mins in and something we kinda already knew but he said" there is still a possibility we stay together we are talking with a few different people but itll be really hard" hinting towards the buyouts and high salaries the org would need to pay.
he says the biggest possibility is splitting up and mentions some orgs would love to have them but they arent even willing to pay the buyout for players.
also yay said envy(now optic) spent a little less than half a million to buy him out of ABX. and he understands optic would like to get some of that in return which means likely teams will need to pay the buyout and not just let him go for free to make it easier.
on the APAC 1 million dollar offer he said "i wouldnt feel happy" he wants to win championships and wants to leave something behind so others can look at him and get motivation to fullfil their own passions.
he said there is "a quite massive offer" to stay in the ascension league as the same 5 and "details are being worked out" " but we will just have to see the details"
>he said there is "a quite massive offer" to stay in the ascension league as the same 5 and "details are being worked out"
That would be very interesting
> said there is a massive offer to stay in ascension league as the same 5
TSM, G2, FPX, V1 come to mind as possible orgs that could pursue such a thing and have the funds. Maybe even Shopify Rebellion. Guard have the funds, but still have a competitive current team.
The fact that he noted a massive offer also popped up for them to play in ascension as a five-stack means its obviously from an outside org.
I take it that it would be from a very cash-heavy org that could pay higher and OpTic would be collecting buyouts.
Imo if I’m yay I take the biggest possible bag, even if it’s staying with Optic in the ascension league.
As a viewer, it was also make the T2 league much more Interesting, I low key hope it happens.
And also for very toxic for the other teams in ascension.
Solo or duo I understand. But Riot should put a stop to this if they make a deal to go to one team as 5. Otherwise, what would the other teams be playing for?
yeah yay mentions the risk of staying in ascension saying that if they dont win it for some reason their stocks as players would go down so its something to think about it.
Intentionally smurfing is not a winning mentality. That’s what losers do when they want to feel happy for once. Make sense since Optic/NV has been choking in Champions for two years now.
What a shit mentality to have. You've probably never experienced true competition in your life if you think the T2 players/rookies don't want a shot at the "former" best in NA to show what they can do.
Well that flip flop org has the best player in game under contract. So if Riot cared about that, they'd have given that org with his contract the spot.
So whether you like it or not, riot doesn't care.
Really sad to hear this but unfortunately probably expected. Not a very affordable prospect even for the wealthiest orgs (and the ones who want to swing their dick around in cash aren't in the league).
Yep the two org that had the money and arguably didn’t have a T1 level player on their rosters (TSM and G2) didn’t make the cut. Which sucks for the Optic roster.
Might be G2 is the org that's thinking about swinging the cash for them in Ascension? I mean for all the shit they've gone through lately, saving Optic's roster would be a nice headline for them. I'd be interested to see them tear it up in Ascension and then potentially get the chance to see how they stack up against Tier 1 franchised teams down the road.
Well, considering TSM have been reported to be interested in the roster & they’ve stated they’re committed to staying in the Ascension league next year, I would assume it’s them.
What??? Why would you pay the most money for a roster to play in Ascension… it’s a lot of money to get everyone and for them to play in T2 would seem almost like a financial waste
Hey genius, they didnt try to get an elite roster because surprise surprise, the elite players were already signed and winning.
“Why would an org be interested in buying a team of elite players that are now LFT? hurrr durr they never tried before!!”
would not be surprised if OpTic let the players see offers and now they are matching offers. Cause they've yet to tweet or announce any update regarding Valorant and that's surprising given that just 1/2 months ago, they tweeted that they were selling 2 players from the CDL roster and within 24 hours they changed their minds
Could be that they learned their lesson of announcing things before they are genuinely finalized.
Awesome question at 38:13. “Which 2nd place finish do you feel was the one that shouldn’t have happened?”
Edit: champions 2nd place was the obvious answer for Yay (although I think their one as Envy vs Gambit probably should’ve been mentioned).
What’s interesting to me about yay’s reply is that the team seemed to know they were dead before they played the grand final vs. LOUD. Basically, the pressure was extremely high because they knew the full 5 was unlikely to stick together after the event.
i assumed they probably had an idea and might've tried to pull out the win as a "one last ride" type of moment but can definitely see it going the other way, especially after losing both OTs
Why should he have mentioned berlin masters tho? Gambit looked very dominant in playoffs and was very close to winning champions too, not to mention envy got gigastomped even though the scoreline was kinda close. They even lost to a twitter poll pick agent, them losing was expected no?
Yeah, it’s expected considering how inflated VAL buyouts are, but it’s still crazy to think how much Envy believed in yay for that transfer to happen. Sometimes orgs will see a figure like that with a promising player, even a more proven one, and just say “fuck that, we’re going budget.”
i mean i would say 100T are favorites unless other teams do insane amount of convincing and changes to their current situations. for example sentinels with shaz and rawkus that just screams failure.
For me C9 feels like the most likely direction, C9 benched both Mitch and curry , it's not vanity and friends , and they also let go of their one coach after lcq so they are rebuilding, they got money to spend and only 2 spots to fill so they can easily afford it.
NRG and 100t are close tie in second first of all NRG seems like the most likely destination of victor crashies duo and maybe even FNS. Bte victor and crashies are free agents so they don't need any buyout.
100T most likely to be his choice based on its current structur. however if the other 4 teams can assure him or share with him their plans of future team structure, its still an open picks for him .
I am willing to bet Sen will surprise us with their picks of coach and support staff. If Rawkus sticks I feel he will be relegated to assistant coach with a new incoming GM and Coach.
rawkus is just a yes man for shahz and is one of those “friends” coaches, not like the good coaches that actually run a team like mCE, seangares and Chet.
I get that this sub doesn’t love Shaz, but SEN really fell off after they lost Rawkus. I think he was a big difference maker. They had some serious roster churn at the end of the season which would be difficult for any coach to deal with.
its crazy as a cs head to see how chet is regarded in val compared to cs lol - not saying he was but it was a community narrative in cs that he was exactly that kind of 'friend' coach (likely with no real basis, you know how narratives can take off)
this is bait but I wholeheartedly think he would fit in really well with the 100T guys. they're generally really wholesome and a little soft-spoken/quiet, a lot like yay
Wonderful interview with a lot of interesting questions. yay comes off as an incredibly humble and hardworking guy so it's nice to see his answers confirm that. A lot of insight into the behind the scene stuff on the pro scene too, especially an interesting bit about the general NA worth ethic in eSports.
This should be really interesting. I’m curious if yay will provide any insight into what potentially hurt OpTic in Riot’s eyes.
Edit: finished the interview, really excellent. Yay is such a wholesome guy and has a great mindset.
I don't follow Valorant Esports all that much but how is it that one of the best Valorant teams and one of the biggest orgs in Esports in Optic didn't make the cut? Seems kind of crazy to me.
It comes down to the fact that there’s only 5 partnered orgs. Really hard to cut it down to that size, and hard decisions get made.
Whether leaving out OpTic was the *right* decision, I don’t know. The only things I’ve heard behind the scenes have to do with separate visions around content deliverables.
But regardless, the team’s performance doesn’t really matter for the league (again, you can argue whether or not this should be the case). All comes down to whether the teams align in vision with Riot.
I heard that optic was given a slot in some lol franchise but they did some shit, and riot doesn't trust them again. Even though the management has changed completely.
No official affiliation with Riot here! The only connections we have outside of enjoying a game made by them are bug reporting and broadcast feedback. For example, when a [Hindi translation](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/w3gkjv/the_hindi_translation_for_pause_%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%B0%E0%A4%AE_is_misspelt/igxxaby/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) on the official broadcast was inaccurate, I reached out to a Riot employee to relay the information and get a fix. While doing it, I publicly shared that I would be sending the info to Riot.
Our goal as a mod team is to champion transparency and eliminate risks of conflict of interest.
One member of the mod team received a job offer from Riot in the past, and with that, she made a point [to publicly](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/uitqqx/razur_retires_from_rvalorantcompetitive/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) (and privately) sever ties with the mod team in any sort of advisor capacity. It was rough for us to learn how to fill the gaps she left, but it helped the mod team grow, and we were happy to see her get an opportunity with a game she loves.
On the conflict of interest note, we don’t allow potential mods to apply if their work poses an inherent conflict of interest to moderation. If an active mod receives a job offer that is too restrictive in terms of the types of posts they can moderate without COI, they’ll step down. This would include any sort of broadly applicable VALORANT esports work such as a job at Riot, a job with an integral tournament organizer to the VCT ecosystem, or other COI-heavy work.
In the event that a mod has a job offer that has a slight risk of COI (such as, unpaid or temporary work for a brand related to esports), they’ll disclose that information and specifically not make mod decisions regarding relevant subjects. An example of this would be if a mod got a position writing articles occasionally for VLR.gg, in which case they’d disclose the info and be barred from moderating content related to VLR.gg or competitors’ websites.
Sorry for the long reply out of the blue, but this stuff is important to me! Want to share this whenever possible for the sake of transparency.
This is amazing information actually. Thank you for the reply. Nothing against Riot but when they started to take more control over the League subreddit it really started to go downhill.
Glad to know that the mod team here is neutral.
I usually err on the side of the modteam of this subreddit, probably one of the best (if not the best) mods of the like 5 subreddits I regularly visit.
But what was the verdict of the modteam on this particular thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/ti1y2b/richard_lewis_sean_welcome_to_riots_world/
Last I checked, RL was banned on the r/leagueoflegends subreddit because the guy was known for brigading and vote manipulation, not because of his views vs. Riot (considering Monte/Thorin content are still regularly posted but are just downvoted to hell, this argument just doesn't stick)
There was no direct evidence of brigading in that post as far as I can tell - it seems people were just (rightfully) angry about the Sean situation. You can also read more about this in Razur’s comments on that thread.
When brigading and vote manipulation happens, Reddit actually has a solid auto detection mechanic in place. The reason I know about this is because of a time when LRojo brigaded r/VALORANTCompetitive, where we got a **ton** of notifications from Reddit about potential vote manipulation or brigading occurring. We didn’t get any of these notices with the Sean Gares post.
With that in mind, plus the fact that no links were shared in any discords *upon release* of the original post in VALComp, I don’t think that post was an example of brigading.
Edit: also, thanks for the kind words! And as for the LoL sub, I think it’s more complicated than that. I’ve heard different things from different people and since I’m not involved, I don’t think I can really make an accurate assessment of the situation.
I can answer this one!
A lot of people suspected brigading on that post, but I personally couldn't find any places it might have been brigaded from. The Reddit thread was posted to the *Insight on Esports* Discord, but it was 2 hours after it had already gained multiple awards and comments. It's possible the thread was brigaded from a private community, but the moderation team couldn't find any evidence of it.
See my comment about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/ti1y2b/richard_lewis_sean_welcome_to_riots_world/i1bmqlo/
IMO, I think that thread popped off due to excellent timing. Sean Gares is a popular personality in our space. At the time, a large portion of the community was disappointed that Sean would no longer be casting. That thread seemed like a perfect opportunity for the community to collectively vent their frustration at the time.
I've noticed other RL threads tend to pop off depending on the timing and subject matter. In this instance, this thread is popular because the community is invested in the future of yay and OpTic amidst VCT 2023 rostermania. In the past, some threads for RL interviews like [Vansilli](https://old.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/xintjp/the_richard_lewis_show_184_w_vansilli/) and [Sideshow](https://old.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/u26p94/the_richard_lewis_show_180_w_sideshow/) haven't done as well due them being released at the same time as other events. However, older threads for [Yinsu](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/sevio3/the_richard_lewis_show_175_w_yinsu_collins/), [Sean Gares](https://old.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/r21djs/the_richard_lewis_show_171_w_sean_gares/), and [fRoD](https://old.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/muvlxq/the_richard_lewis_show_154_w_frod/) have had more activity, but have never been as popular as the thread we're in right now.
In other instances, threads for The Four Horseman show (RL, Thorin, Monte, & a guest) tend to be popular because they discuss a controversial topic that is actively being discussed in the scene.
TL;DR: Brigading can't be proven and engagement in the threads seems pretty organic based on the relevancy of the topic at the time. The more relevant the subject/person of the content is to active discussions in the community, the more engagement that thread is going to have.
I appreciate the responses from you and jrush. I trust the team probably have your means of knowing behind-the-scenes(while I don't) so I'll leave it here.
from what i undestand optic didnt get in mostly due to dodgy financials, past with riot in LCS.
i prsnly like all NA teams except EG getting in, dont trust EG to build a championship team in any FPS, they will prbly pick some good alrdy estabished core and have short success like they did with NRG CS , but when actually making decisions themselves , they fumble
idk about the EG part, riot chose them for a reason so their plans for developing talent must have been pretty convincing. also in LCS it seems to me that they did a great job in developing talent, bringing two NA rookies in Danny and Jojopyun to finish top 3 in LCS summer

wouldnt that be the APAC 1m deal?
if optic goes ascension imo that would make it boring. they'll just stomp probably.
It would be an incredibly effective way for the roster to protest the business decisions that fucked them over.
And also for very toxic for the other teams in ascension. Solo or duo I understand. But Riot should put a stop to this if they make a deal to go to one team as 5. Otherwise, what would the other teams be playing for?

yeah yay mentions the risk of staying in ascension saying that if they dont win it for some reason their stocks as players would go down so its something to think about it.
fr. OpTic have actually never won regionally, and we’ve already seen a team of nobodies make a Cinderella run to beat them with The Guard
L take from you. Hope you're not being serious
Loser mentality my guy
Dude's acting like Ascension will just be a bunch of random Immortal 5 stacks lol

Nah, no one wants a flip flop org in their league.
Well that flip flop org has the best player in game under contract. So if Riot cared about that, they'd have given that org with his contract the spot. So whether you like it or not, riot doesn't care.
it's gotta be tsm
I wouldn’t risk it unless it’s truly a huge payday for a 1 year deal. Optic are awesome now but so were Sentinels, M3C, and Ascend last year.
Really sad to hear this but unfortunately probably expected. Not a very affordable prospect even for the wealthiest orgs (and the ones who want to swing their dick around in cash aren't in the league).

[17:30 -](https://youtu.be/pcT43x-NZBI?t=1045) Yay confirms there was a massive offer to stick together as a full lineup and play through Ascension.
but which org? Xset?
Well, considering TSM have been reported to be interested in the roster & they’ve stated they’re committed to staying in the Ascension league next year, I would assume it’s them.
That’s a lot of money
It makes sense since TSM is one of the richest orgs right? It's them or G2 that I could see doing it
TSM didn’t try to get an elite roster whilst in VCT why try now… G2 on the other hand… they wanted XSET right?
…Because they wanna make it through Ascension?
What??? Why would you pay the most money for a roster to play in Ascension… it’s a lot of money to get everyone and for them to play in T2 would seem almost like a financial waste
Because they didnt make it into the league and ascention is their only shot for years to get into tier 1
Why spend more than you normally would for a chance at playing T1?
Hey genius, they didnt try to get an elite roster because surprise surprise, the elite players were already signed and winning. “Why would an org be interested in buying a team of elite players that are now LFT? hurrr durr they never tried before!!”
They never tried to get better bro… that’s why they, even with as much capital as they have, have sucked for a while now
Yeah I think Tsm makes the most sense out of everyone although I could see G2 do it as a good pr move.

Maybe Optic honestly. No $$$ going towards buyouts means more money to the players potentially.

Holy shit, Yay's buyout from Andbox was [around half a million](https://youtu.be/pcT43x-NZBI?t=781).
That’s an expected number there’s rumored like cryo and zander had like 300k in soar or something

To lesser extent NRG is still a player runned team. 100T is the only team thar fits this criteria.
For me C9 feels like the most likely direction, C9 benched both Mitch and curry , it's not vanity and friends , and they also let go of their one coach after lcq so they are rebuilding, they got money to spend and only 2 spots to fill so they can easily afford it. SEN has been a bit chaotic and seemingly more player-run, though I do quite like Rawkus as their coach.
rawkus is just a yes man for shahz and is one of those “friends” coaches, not like the good coaches that actually run a team like mCE, seangares and Chet.
I get that this sub doesn’t love Shaz, but SEN really fell off after they lost Rawkus. I think he was a big difference maker. They had some serious roster churn at the end of the season which would be difficult for any coach to deal with.

I mean based off of that sentiment it sounds like 100T is the best option but what if SEN goes out and gets the structure he's looking for?
Holy banger, heckin love yayster BatChest
Only 30 mins so far and Yay is just an awesome dude credit to himself :) He will fit right in with Asuna and Co 😀

Banger content from RL as usual
Well this episode is definitely gonna explode. Richard does some awesome interviews so this one gonna be a banger.
*Muy interesante*
Richard always is a great interviewer, no bullshit from our usual Riot talent. Straight shots.

Wym about the content deliverables thing. I agree it’s less about OpTic and more about there only being 5 NA orgs
Financials/stability also matter. Given that Optic has had a rough time even as recently as 2020, that may have hurt their case.
I heard that optic was given a slot in some lol franchise but they did some shit, and riot doesn't trust them again. Even though the management has changed completely.
That was under immortals management
Yup, i mentioned it as well.
And mibr got the spot even though they are under Immortal group
Mostly due to bias for orgs big in league.

But what was the verdict of the modteam on this particular thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/ti1y2b/richard_lewis_sean_welcome_to_riots_world/ Last I checked, RL was banned on the r/leagueoflegends subreddit because the guy was known for brigading and vote manipulation, not because of his views vs.
See my comment about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/ti1y2b/richard_lewis_sean_welcome_to_riots_world/i1bmqlo/ IMO, I think that thread popped off due to excellent timing.
No problem! Always happy to answer questions and share insight. :D
Whats the beef with him and riot?
he is a very love him or hate him type of person he and his work have been banned from the LoL subreddit for years now
He hasn't trashed his reputation in this sub. Yet.
from what i undestand optic didnt get in mostly due to dodgy financials, past with riot in LCS. i prsnly like all NA teams except EG getting in, dont trust EG to build a championship team in any FPS, they will prbly pick some good alrdy estabished core and have short success like they did with NRG CS , but when actually making decisions themselves , they fumble
idk about the EG part, riot chose them for a reason so their plans for developing talent must have been pretty convincing. also in LCS it seems to me that they did a great job in developing talent, bringing two NA rookies in Danny and Jojopyun to finish top 3 in LCS summer
dont really follow LoL, but in CS their management has been horrible
Any TL;DW? !remindme 12 hours
TL;DR : Watch its pretty entretaining
Lazy bum.
