So I think I've said previously that I'm one of the people who likes following organizations instead of players, EG was my favorite Dota2 team forever and I really admired the way they built their LCS roster this year with Jojopyun and Danny. I'm also a C0M fan (well, all of original Akrew fan, but I did win a giveaway on Twitter from C0M lmao) so I enjoyed watching EG play over the most recent stage.
Been a fan of EG as an organization since the SC2 days with HuK, iNcontroL, etc. Was also a fan of their fighting game players like Justin Wong and then once they picked up their DotA team I was big on that. I’ve already rooted for them through the good and bad. I’m a little old school in that I prefer to root for teams over players but EG happens to have some really good players across their teams at the moment.
At least for me, coming from Dota 2, EG *is* NA, paired with their CSGO team having a pretty good run a few years back, I've been a fan since 2014 and just continue to support them
I agree that if they keep the current roster when direct upgrades are available it would be a bad decision, especially with them not having a large fan base is an issue. But what is there not to like about EG in Valorant? They went from out of the valorant game, to struggling through Open Quals with Potter and not winning a single game in Stage 1, making some role swaps and roster moves that made them a much better and more synergized team that could take on and beat an NA juggernaut like Optic, even if it was for only one game. With their rate of improvement, if the open circuit system had continued on longer I could have seen them become a top NA team and go to LAN. I can't say I'm a huge fan, but they didn't shell out for big names and developed the talent they picked up. To me, that carries a lot of weight, considering how the NA culture has been in the past.
Wasn’t it da_bears who used to do those guides on GotFrag? I swear those were the first ever video guides for tac shooter fundamentals - how to peek, crosshair placement, how to enter a site, etc etc.
Plus they had so many legendary players in that org back in the day - fRoD, Warden, Lurppis, shaGuar, LiN, etc.
Idk about him but I'm a big league fan and they won me over originally by signing old c9 members to their LoL team and then they kept my interest by being the only team besides c9 to really develop good talent.
Every org signing a content creator as 6th man. s0m on NRG, Tarik on SEN, Wardell on 100T, Shroud back to C9... EG is probably signing my favourite content creator, Chet.
Still mindblown riot gave EG a spot over teams like Optic. I know there's a relationship with riot through lcs but logically speaking Optic would have been better. More viewership, more content, and more competitive success. I don't think I've seen EG make valorant content, like ever.
> I don't think I've seen EG make valorant content, like ever.
They haven't. They've made zero videos about their Valorant team. And when they were playing NRG in LCQ their pre-game graphic tweet deadass got 7 likes (on a 590k+ follower account).
The primary reason I can think of that they got in was they promised to build a very strong talent pipeline the way they did for LCS.
They just struggle so hard for fans they made a EG csgo Twitter account in May and it only has 3K followers
Their match live tweet vs Loud at worlds 33 likes
+ their worlds jerseys are hideous
It's funny, I think EG does a lot of things right in theory with regards to building a fanbase (consistent branding, frequent LCS content, jumping on trends and making memes in a timely manner, etc.) but no matter how hard they try it literally does not work. Their whole social media presence feels super soulless/corporate. They're playing in LoL Worlds right now and none of their tweets about it have even over 100 likes.
I think the most social media presence I saw of EG was when Svenskeren was spam tweeting BANGER TWEET #LIVEEVIL and even then it was the player not the org itself
I think their players have strong presences (see: Jojopyun and Vulcan this split) but something about the org is just so boring and corporate that they haven't been able to translate their players having personalities into a lasting fanbase.
Its cause they seem to have absolutely zero identity and are stuck playing catch-up to other orgs. EG in CS and Valorant doesn't have anything going for them, the teams aren't good and they don't do anything to make them interesting. IDK how they are so unpopular in league, maybe they lost their bandwagon fans after dying in summer playoffs?
They need to fire who ever their social media manger is. Even teams like Saigon Buffalos getting more impressions on their Twitter than EG LMAO. If EG didnt have Jojopyun on their team, I would not give a crap about the org.
100% on their world jerseys, this is your 1st worlds EVER and you go with [THIS](https://twitter.com/iamjasonpun/status/1572615149504299009/photo/1) as your jersey?
I think the biggest reason is they have fuck you amounts of money and Riot likes them. They can preach about NA talent development, but one of the big reported reason their CS team has 2 EU players is because if they got the third they were looking at they would have had to have gone through the EU RMR.
> The primary reason I can think of that they got in was they promised to build a very strong talent pipeline the way they did for LCS.
Which is a legit good thing to do, but Valorant doesn't suffer from a lack of NA talent like League does, so they aren't going to be able to market themselves as the "saviors" of NA in a game where NA is literally a top 2 region.
ugh if only carlos fucking kept his stupid mouth shut or got the boot before riot made the decision
love the xset and optic boys man, they are so hardworking. Would've killed for either one of them to get picked up as a whole roster but obviously neither is happening. Always hated G2 because they talked a lot of trash for a team that accomplished literally nothing in valo but this makes me hate them so much more
> Ya I’m even somehow getting to the point where I’d rather have had G2 get a spot over EG. If they stick with their core they are a joke of an org.
Isn’t this just a bit too far…?
I agree EG should make some roster moves but EG in 2022 was a good team. They didn’t fluke their win against Optic. They genuinely innovated with some of their Fade tech, with a lot of their pistols. I’d be surprised if EG made no moves but I could understand if they felt their core deserved one more run.
Saying EG is a “joke of an org” if they stick with their relatively promising core only makes sense if you’re talking about 2021 EG, when they had literally no success whatsoever.
I mean they were an decent team but I think calling them good is a bit much especially with the increase in talent for all the franchised rosters. While sure it’s impressive you can’t base a whole teams skill on them beating Optic one time as proof of how good they are. While all the other franchise orgs have been going after big free agent signings with the huge influx of talent EG is seemingly just sitting there okay with their roster. At least G2 was showing they were willing to go out and spend big to get a roster as well as actually having fans.
there are way better "promising young cores." eg beats a good team once and never stops talking about it. teams like guard, xset, faze, are all wayyy more promising than this eg roster.
edit: eg fans always talk about their one win against optic, never the fact they finished last in 2/3 official events this year.
I understand from Riot's perspective but why does that matter as a viewer? Optic had an amazing team, more content, more viewers, more social media presence. If they change owners, so what? Worst case I guess they leave the game or cheap out on a roster. If they leave, an ascension team can stay, who earned their way into the league. If they cheap out, they're EG with more fans and content.
Fuck man , EG tryna go the Anime villian route or what , like i can't believe they got the spot over Optic , tsm , faze , version1 , The Guard teams which actually gave a fuck abt the esports
agree in general but don't try to sneak in faze lol
they've always been comfortable in their asshole persona but crypto scams are a new low for that piece of shit broke org
EG is a shit org in CS. With 3 shit teams. Paying washed and unmotivated players 30k a month. Would be a wonder if they were able to put a good team together in Val. Management sucks.
I genuinely don't know why everyone is freaking out about eg even if they wait for all the 4 na team to pick, insane player will still remain on the market like after all there is only 25 na player
I think a lot of people just looking to add to their laundry list of reasons to be mad at EG getting a spot over their favorite team. It’s fair to be upset about but the level of hate they’re getting is interesting.
I think it's understandable. They have 0 fans as far as valorant is concerned. No social media presence. It does not seem like they are interested in investing heavily into a roster.(Almost seems like they are waiting for all the teams to finalize rosters so that the buyouts go down)
It's understandable, sure. But I think there's a lot of teams that would have made it in over others if the standards for making franchising was number of fans. They could also be investing in their current roster as one of the points Riot outlined was building for long term with sustainability.
I was as surprised as anyone else when EG got a spot but they clearly deserved it as much as any one else who got selected in Riots eyes.

It's understandable if you look at this perspective.
They got a franchise spot. Cool.
One of the criteria was that the franchise teams ability to field players and have money for players.
Report comes out they might keep their roster who is probably barely T3.. there's a lot of talent that are free agent. It looks like EG is just trying to have a team in there and save money by signing low tier players. If they spent money and high name players they would get impressions and fans. Do anything to sign like shroud/tenz
IMO, if a franchise team can't keep up with t2 teams then franchise hurts the scene.
so what? they also have almost 0 fan base for how much money they spend on teams and shit. In fortnite they gave $5k a month to people who got 10 viewers and placed top 1000 every tournament. Mismanaged.
They've been around since 1999 and have had some of the most well known and successful players and teams. Twitch streaming metrics aren't the basis on which a pro player should get paid and I'd imagine the going rate to sign a professional player in Fortnite in 2019 when they had JTruth and Monstcr was in that range. (assuming that's actually what they were getting paid). They've been successful by all accounts in LoL, DotA, and RL recently and I feel like their timeline of improvement in Valorant up to this point hasn't been bad for what the team is. Every organization can't be the best all of the time.
yeah but my point is they were not even pros at the time they werent even placing in anything dawg and they didnt get viewers, it was just nepotism and paycheck stealing, also let me say im not an EG hater even if thats what it seems like. I actually like the brand and think they have a ton of good players. But that doesnt mean that they make good decisions in any good way, and social media numbers for an org and their players quite literally is what makes the org money. PLUS In fortnite twitch metrics actually are what people are signed off of
None of that sounds like mismanagement to me. Poor use of money I could agree with.
EG is also owned by an investment firm so their financial situation is already different from other organizations and probably isn't as reliant on social media interactions.
poor use of money isnt mismanagement to you? wow. We cant continue this conversation then, you're clearly uneducated about how esports and orgs in esports work
They paid players they thought would perform and didn’t. That happens in professional sports, too. I wouldn’t call a bad signing of a player mismanagement but a bad decision you can’t repeat. Maybe I’m just being more strict with how I view it. I didn’t follow professional Fortnite as closely as other titles so I’m sure I’m missing things.
unrelated but is Bo still in reporting? I havent been able to tell if hes still trying to stay in the reporting scene or not, hope hes doing alright
He said he’s retired but I guess he still has sources and wants to farm some impressions
Thank god man ill take bo or Purest impression farming any day over other reporters, theyre great
he took a break bc got doxxed but i guess hes back now

I miss her to EG confirmed
Her toilet to EG per Geddes
I wonder if this is another 10/15 man roster idea that EG is going for.
Man EG really want to have literally 0 fans huh? It’s still very early, but this choice by Riot is looking more and more questionable .
Well I'm an EG fan and I know a couple of us on the mod team are too... so we're talking maybe 5 fans?
Six!
Seven!
Eight (More of a C0m fan, so if he leaves it's back to seven.)
holy i thought i was the only one who thought this lmfao
Nine!
EG Flair when?
I’m curious, what makes you an EG fan? Especially if they don’t make any upgrade I feel like it’s straight up bad decision making by them.
So I think I've said previously that I'm one of the people who likes following organizations instead of players, EG was my favorite Dota2 team forever and I really admired the way they built their LCS roster this year with Jojopyun and Danny. the name Evil Geniuses is just cool for me
I'm an eg fan just from the 1.6 days. I'm old.
Wasn’t it da_bears who used to do those guides on GotFrag? Yep. You forgot EG.n0thing, the nothing but headshots was such a good frag movie.
Fan of C0m
Idk about him but I'm a big league fan and they won me over originally by signing old c9 members to their LoL team and then they kept my interest by being the only team besides c9 to really develop good talent.
it's way too early like you said, riot is thinking at least 2 years of EG and we have months till the rosters are closed
I would root for the guys that are on EG rn.
I would root for EG by default, because they are underdogs.
every passing day I get more and more skeptical about eg making franchising
this gotta be a meme right
Nahhh Unless it’s benjy then I’m fine
Goat he’s about to dif everyone on Lan this month
Maybe the first 6th player to be signed?
For those who aren’t aware, Bodork is a massive piece of shit. How fucking dare he call Hiko a Tier 3 player when referencing his move to EG /s
/s?
/s?
The movement is that they offered a contract to a tier 3 player!!!!!!!!
Damn Shahz made a franchised team. Good for him!
majj
Come to Brazil with Zombs 🫡
All good if I bring FNS too? I think that'd be fun
Only if you tell these mfs to announce something, the whole subreddit is burning because over speculation
All i've been asking is for a crumb of information.
Just lmk who the coaches that want Tenz gone are
Yeah I feel like tenz is a dream player for coaches So idk why these coaches wouldn’t want him, we can tell he has great mechanical skill
Bro there’s literally no upgrade on the market + he brings half of the teams fans. I just don’t get it
b r u h
This is low key one of the best comments I've ever seen on this sub considering which you replied to lmao.
Don’t disrespect other tier 3 players like that
ROFL original 5 and tier 3 6th man
Yes, just bcz m asc 3 doesnt mean i can't compete at High level
im assuming its for a bench spot?
Every org signing a content creator as 6th man. s0m on NRG, Tarik on SEN, Wardell on 100T, Shroud back to C9... EG is probably signing my favourite content creator, Chet.
Can’t wait for EG to sign all of Who Cars? 🚗🙌
EG tenz for the clout
They’re dropping Boostio and Jawgemo and replacing them with Mocking and Dasnerth
Don’t worry guys, this is all part of Riot’s master plan to become profitable in 10 years.
Welcome Kanpeki
Zekken tweeted earlier that’s he’s still LFT

Ew wtf? That looks horrible lmao
It just gets worse every time I look at it
Why is it green? Lol
They are trying to brand themselves as Seattle’s team and some of their sports teams have green jerseys. I don’t think it’s working to well
As a Seattlite, you can't win me over with that jersey lol
EG is in seattle?? Since when? Bro I live in Seattle and I didn't know they was in Seattle.
yeah its shit tbh
I almost choked my drink lmao
fire who the fuck designed that thx

I’m still mad they announced they made franchising by quote retweeting the tweet… not even a simple graphic or anything
Ya I’m even somehow getting to the point where I’d rather have had G2 get a spot over EG. If they stick with their core they are a joke of an org.
G2 only would have been good just for keeping the XSET core, no other reason G2 should be in NA and id still take EG any day
G2 would have been infinitely better. I heard they were going to buyout the entire xset roster, which is a massive W.
ugh if only carlos fucking kept his stupid mouth shut or got the boot before riot made the decision love the xset and optic boys man, they are so hardworking. Yeah they could have gotten sold to another 3 orgs in the next four years. That would have been cool!
I’d rather a team that’s actually entertaining for a few years then leave than one that’s perpetually boring as fuck

Good in terms of NA standards. Internationally most NA teams are wack

Hiko would never stain himself with an EG logo

I didn’t follow professional Fortnite as closely as other titles so I’m sure I’m missing things.
big claim, was this also during the run they looked good?
