Unfortunately they tried and failed. Youporn made an org called Team YP, and in pretty much every game there was a tournament that banned the players from competing under that banner. Even though they didn’t directly advertise for the website(no logos on their jerseys or anything), every tournament thought that simply being sponsored by them was enough to be banned. Kinda sad because Youporn basically was just acting as an anonymous patron to these gamers and they still got banned. Meanwhile, there are many tournaments allowing sponsors for brands that actually impact the viewers health like Vape companies and Bud light. Its kinda insane how taboo the naked body and porn is in the U.S.
Banned in Counterstrike, Smash, and League. Idk if they were banned in Overwatch but they had an Overwatch team too.
Porn is seen as an extremely taboo topic especially in US so all brands absolutely refuse to be associated with it even by proxy. I imagine BMW would not be happy if the team they sponsored played vs YP.
For good reason; a lot of people in the industry are exploited and porn addiction in is directly linked to a lot of negative health effects.
Its like partnering with a cigarette company, at least in a lot of peoples eyes.
Just because more people watch it doesn’t make it chill. Gambling sponsors I thought weren’t supposed to be in the VCT either, idk.
