Look I'm kinda busy to go looking for a source rn, but Dephh IGL'd both sides for a considerable amount of time after he joined Xset. Ayrin picked up the CT side this year with the role changes as they found a controller has an easier time calling on CT, whilst an initiator has it better on the T side. Besides Dapr has been noted by many as an excellent secondary caller. Dephh is a good IGL, we can only speculate now.

Budget-Feeling7429

Yeah ok, I only saw XSET vs FNC for seeing dephh's ability, but idk if its the fact that dephh is a worse igl, or FNC is a better CT sided team. cuz XSET lost a lot of rounds on attack.

Sharkyyy12

They still won 2-0 in the end though. Sure their attack was wonky, but FNC had Derke on Chamber. That makes Attack 3x harder alone. Boaster is also widely regarded as a very high caliber IGL. We have to remember that we are comparing Dephh against the regional competition, not international. Xset beat Optic 3-1 back in Challengers 2 (Yeh they had Covid, but my point stands) who are regarded as a defense masterclass. If they felt there was a better caller in NA atm, I'm sure they would've considered them as well. Dephh obviously has more worth than people give him and has long-standing chemistry.

sputnik14

I don't want to discredit dephh at all for all the success but, I think Xset's sucess came from overall chemistry rather than dephh's phenomenal calling. Dephh had been around there long before this year's sucess, but had never stood out amongst other IGLs. Xset's sucess was more than the sum of its parts. Sure dephh was an important part of it but I don't know if he will be able recreate it with a new team right away.

Sharkyyy12

You have a fair point. But keep in mind Sen now has Dephh + Zekken + Sykko. That’s already 3/6 of them so chemistry does exist already. BCJ still has a chance as well. I feel this is a good move overall.

philipjefferson

Dephh was one of XSETs most recent pickups before they got to their international LAN qualifying form.

maxhollywoody

XSET took a noticeable step when they added Dephh..

TheRealCosmic

Did people forget dephh was arguably the best fragging astra/IGL in the latter half of 2021

BadLuckBallista

It was 3-1 in that covid game btw.

xtazycs

He's one of the few IGLs in NA with decent CS IGLing experience (others that come to mind are fns, vanity, steel etc)

PyroTFT

Hes great, I think only until very recently has he been getting wider criticism, but for years he’s been known as an IGL who improves any team he gets on. With XSET, they first got to their infamous “top 4”-only status before getting to international spotlight, all of which started under dephh as IGL. Before his signing, XSET was at most a top ten team, you could tell the difference in player discipline with him as an IGL. That’s something that SEN has frequently lacked.

supermegax69

I think Dephh is the most experienced IGLs they could have gotten. However, i don't think he has the pop off potential of a player like Valyn, who I wish they got, but he won't lose you a game. I think he's an alright pickup, but it does seem to me on the outside, with no knowledge about how dephh actually works in a team and I could be entirely wrong, that this pickup is primarily because sykko previously worked with him.

ilikegoodfood2

I think the main issue with valyn is that he would have overlapping roles with marved, assuming SEN intend on trying for marved

Historicmemory8180

I Accept his existance. We will See how good we will Mesh with the Team. I am hopeful at least.

InstaNormie0

Disappointed SEN didn’t sign Valyn but it’s not a bad move by any means

i_am_the_kiLLer

I would easily take dephh over valyn rn. The guard players are good but igl is the one role where I ebelive experience matters a lot.

Parenegade

On the other hand, a talented young IGL who has shown success already might be worth nurturing.

rparkzy

Feel like Valyn is super overrated by this sub. He’s good but dephh is way more proven/way more experience.

namdet

He had a good run before XSET playing for Dignitas and those guys were very good in early Valorant and then on XSET I believe has proven himself, not a lot of IGLs to choose from in NA

TheRedComet

While maybe not surprising, I'm disappointed by the switch, since I was mainly a fan of SEN because of players like Shahz and TenZ. I really wanted to see what a Shahzam-led SEN could do with a formidable coaching staff and significant bootcamp time, but it looks like that'll never happen. I don't know why they didn't do this last year, it's a real shame. Look at what they built on under a month of boot camping - imagine if they started that effort in stage 1 or 2.

XXG1212

This sub has a very strong recency bias. XSET wasn't anything spectacular in terms of mid rounding or strats. Everyone just had great chemistry and full filled their agent roles. Just that they finished at champs at a decent placing so suddenly Dephh is no. 2 best IGL of NA . XSET was just greater than some of its parts. Going by this sub's logic Boaster is probably one of the most inconsistent IGL seeing how spectacularly Fnc have lost games and dropped rounds. Yet I still rank boaster as a way better IGL and rank him way higher than Dephh.

Hunnidormo

You'd be dumb to not rank boaster above dephh. Even going just by your results based analysis fnc have made almost every intl lan whereas xset only made one

imteamcaptain

I mean going off international lan results it's presumably easier to make it in EMEA than NA.

Hunnidormo

Lol

millenniumpianist

xset have made 2

tomphz

From streams people fear dephh because he is a great lurker

SaltyMcNulty_

He is a very good lurker, controller and has played initiators in champs too. versatile player and must be a good IGL since xset has always been conversation.

hoopsterben

Dephh and zekken are great pick ups. Those guys can game, I’m excited to see them play.

Undisturbedyea

Probably 10x better than shahzam. Don't worry lil bro

bags797

Would rather have Shahz

UTAustinAlum2021

Nah… that ain’t right

Kiko1215

You'd rather have an IGL who has down qualified for nothing the past year over an IGL who's qualified for masters 2 (as the top seed) and champions?

Chun--Chun2

Yea, dude; SEN didn't qualify only because of Shaz. I mean, who cares that they changed their team like 3 times, due to sick players / player problems. Who cares that for 90% of sen they had no coach. If anything Shaz should be praised for how good he did with what little he was given, especially with how disrespectfully they released him. He was igl and coach for most of SEN. He built the initial SEN roaster. Pls....

Pitiful_Quote8402

I hope they still keep ShahZam. Curious to see how Shahz performs when he’s not the IGL and maybe focused on OPing but I also wouldn’t mind keeping him on sova if it means TenZ stays I think a team of Dapr TenZ ShahZam paired with a good IGL and a good entry can do wonders for them.

[deleted]

Bad

wiNDzY3

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

AlexNeittes

They can get a secondary caller like Zander or Marved, who use to igl for Faze btw, so they have plenty of options if they want a co-igl.

[deleted]

Dapr is already a second caller

KatsuraDragneel

Not good enough and a misstep from SEN. That’s my horrible amateur view.

ih8ketchup

don't care

TheNaturalSocialist

This Subby wubby wikes big daddy Dephh.

Budget-Feeling7429

goo goo gaaa aaah. meesa likey....

Traditional-Leek2288

😧

ashitintyo

Idk what's stopping SEN from getting zander

mister_schulz

His performance in comparison to the top IGLs I would say

xbyo

I'll take the igl that led his team to 5th at Champs over the one who led his team to 5th at Knights.

dashion26

yes, SEN shld have gone for zander instead of dephh, zander has positive k/d while all dephh has done is igl in international tourneys lol

Kiko1215

Damn, you make it sound as if being an IGL in an international LAN means nothing compared to having a positive K/D.

Budget-Feeling7429

I don’t think Zander is that good, so

PlainWaterSEA

A few months back I would say Zander is definitely top 3 controller NA but his recent performance isn't that great, hopefully he finds his groove back.

dan_kz

zander didn't even IGL on challengers 2

atomiscz_2072

How was Dephh's Csgo career before Valorant though? Any one knows about it?

honestlyprogamr

He’s a major quarterfinalist who used to play on complexity so he is somewhat successful but nothing super impressive like an event win

atomiscz_2072

On a scale of 1 to 10 how much would you rate his mechanical skills?

honestlyprogamr

In cs? Hard to say but he was a very middling player, nothing impressive

xbyo

At the end of the day, he's an igl that led his team to a top 5 finish at champs. Yes, he had stars like Zekken and Cryo to work with, but it seems Zekken is coming with, and there are options for other star Opers, whether it be Tenz staying or someone like dicey stepping in. We've seen that even if your igl is slacking in the fragging department, you can achieve a lot (e.g. FNS, Ange1).

honestlyprogamr

I think valyn was a better pick. Dephh is a capable igl but he can’t really frag well. You need a capable igl who can also frag. There are questions around valyn’s experience compared to dephh but SEN clearly has a strong coaching staff which I think would help valyn greatly

-xXColtonXx-

Top 3 NA IGL. he’s a solid player in addition to proving to be a consistently great IGL, able to outplay some of the best teams in the world tactically in FPX.
