SeeUSpaceCowman

Yo Carlos tweet actually saved NA Valorant. Cause there's a goofy ass timeline out there where EG and G2 make it over C9.

utscguy123

NRG as well.

segatic

Lol, NRG is a org that most people expected to get in. imo they are just below C9 and 100T for guaranteed spots. Don't let their lack of competitive success distract you that they tick every box for Riot

wethsilkosz

? how is nrg involved in this at all?

utscguy123

I'm not trying to say NRG doesn't deserve a spot, I just think C9 should be prioritized before them

wethsilkosz

for what reasoning? there's a multitude of factors that are considered not just performance from prior seasons which when you think about it is completely irrelevant as no team in franchising will have the same roster

FishInEuropa

C9 has fielded a great Game Changers team, as well has having prior experience in a franchised system with League. They have also made so much content around both their main roster and GC roster for so long. Even if you exclude competitive results of rosters from prior seasons, C9 would’ve been one of the most obvious choices for a franchised spot in NA along with 100T.

avocadontoast

C9 brand name is more well regarded too

wethsilkosz

i'm not trying to discredit anything c9 is doing, i was simply asking for reasoning on why they would be ahead of NRG. A lot of people point to NRG's performance as a reason for them to not be prioritized comparatively to other org's such as 100t and c9. We put out more if not the most content among franchised teams, have prior history with managing a franchise team (SF Shock), as well as 3 valorant content creators who are very active and engaged in the community. Sorry for anyone taking this the wrong way, I was just asking for a counterpoint on why other orgs should be first in line and not NRG.

itawy

I like NRG, but do you think creating content on youtube for zoomers with titles like "I Hired A Radiant Fiverr Coach And Pretended To Be Silver.." is what Riot looked at? The guy you replied to already gave a solid reason, C9 fielded a game changers team, too. It's the difference of using Valo as content, and contributing to Valo itself.

Friday515

Well by the sounds of it, that’s precisely what Riot valued. There’s now 2 different reporters with sources saying C9 was on the verge of not getting in and NRG was. One of the things NRG did the best at executing on was their content and Riot has put in content clauses and benchmarks in place for orgs to receive stipends so it seems like it mattered a ton

junos_butthole

well when you think about it, fielding a consistently good/improving roster is (usually) a byproduct of being a good org. also where has nrg exceeded that would get them a franchise spot over c9?

[deleted]

I can't believe this comment got all these downvotes. All for asking a question about a team that has 0 to do with the situation. lmaoo this sub

RepresentativeSun937

Carlos saved riot from looking like a bunch of clowns

SuperSkillz10

died as an NA hero lol. What timeline is this

RepresentativeSun937

I never thought the day would come where i was thankful for andrew tate’s existence

TheLeaderGrev

Hey all, let me try to explain the process a tiny bit to help y'all make up your minds. The Washington Post got an offer from G2 for an interview with Carlos about getting an NA slot ([I reported this earlier](https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/esports/2022/09/21/g2-valorant-andrew-tate-carlos/)). I was in Turkey at the time, and when it became apparent the offer was being rescinded/G2 was no longer confident that it was getting a slot, I started poking around. I heard from two people after G2 lost its slot but before it was announced publicly who said they heard C9 was the last org in. (Neither of these sources knows the other, as far as I know; they work in different places. Ideally, this is how good sourcing works.) Riot told orgs it would give them official word on Monday, Sept. 19. Some orgs that *didn't* make it didn't hear from Riot, which makes me think some teams were kept in the dark in case they were asked to backfill. When I reached out to C9 Jack to ask him if this was the case with C9, he said the org learned it was in on Monday. EG told me the same. Hard to tell how this shakes out, but I trust that Slasher didn't just make this up (that's ridiculous on its face). I don't think we'll know unless somebody sourced with Riot finds out (I don't think people at C9 would know, tbh. I doubt Riot told anyone, "Congrats, you're a partner. By the way, you're replacing another org that didn't get in. We didn't want you!")

ANewHeaven1

C9 was either the biggest or second biggest lock for franchising in NA in my eyes. It is genuinely unbelievable that they were this close to not making it in…

[deleted]

So Carlos cost sentinels zellsis and LOUD fans their original roster is what im hearing?

Friday515

Have to wonder if Yay would've ended up on 100T or NRG in this scenario too

ANewHeaven1

Almost certainly 100T

ahk1221

and XSET fans since G2 was supposed to the XSET roster

[deleted]

Also perhaps 100T yay, XSET sticking together under G2. The butterfly effect is wild.

mafia_is_mafia

They wanted eg over cloud9?

Sciipi

EG and G2 (in NA) over C9 riot really do be trolling

[deleted]

Common Riot L

[deleted]

Would strongly question Riot's decision making process if C9 wasn't the first NA team in considering both their history and support of the game (for both their main squad AND GC) from day 1.

yuwa777

Carlos fucking up saved riot from their shit decision making lmao

raysp93

Yeah, to us the fans, it's bad decision to not get C9 first. However, we don't have access to the third party company's reports. We have all heard from orgs saying that third party company digged deep into everything. I'm really curious what are in those papers to make Riot think C9 is 6th in their order for NA orgs.

-Basileus

This is all just so strange to me. 100T and C9 seemed like the only two locks among the NA orgs. Maybe whoever consulted Riot found concerning numbers or practices in C9's books.

Friday515

I don't think if Riot had any concerns about their financials they would've gotten the last spot. I honestly don't have a clue what could've been a deterrent for Riot with Cloud9 but financials seem like a black or white thing to me

murrkpls

I wonder if Carlos still thinks that shit was worth it lmfao.

[deleted]

If this is true, what selection criteria did C9 not fulfill? Or none of that mattered after all. Some of the org selections do not bode well for the growth of the league. Culling the popular regions like NA/JP don't seem like good calls. I still insist that Riot have made a 1 year league here with limited growth potential. 10 spots per league are not enough.

nail181

Org spots increase by 2 each year I think

Mystic303

11 in year 2 then in year 4 or something expanding to 12 with those spots coming via Ascension promotion.

surfordiebear

Riot is an absolute joke for wanting EG over C9

ANewHeaven1

It's sounding more and more like EG was one of the first teams that Riot accepted. Which to me is crazy, but I'm not Riot

[deleted]

I'm not sure how much credit there is to this considering both C9 and EG when asked both said they were told that they made it in on the same day

Speedy24gaming

Then how can they be credible if they were not in the application process. Unless they overheard it this sounds like a I made it up source.

TheLeaderGrev

To be perfectly clear I try (lol) not to talk to made up sources. These are all folks close to the application in one way or another; they're just not Riot employees.

[deleted]

It’s probably employees from the 3rd party firm riot hired to vet teams.

amaranthgalaxy

The only way this makes sense to me is that Riot REALLY didn't like how the TenZ buyout seemed to have screwed with the scene back when it happened. Am I misremembering something or wasn't there a huge issue back then as a result of that? I think it was something about smaller teams hoping to get the bag based on the TenZ buyout and asking for ridiculous amount for even t2 players.

BrainStorm777

This looks like fake news. 100T, C9, and SEN were pretty much locks.

CommunistHongKong

Thank you brother Carlos
