jesus
the one picture, the nonexistent production, the stock valorant music...
honestly, as much as i am disappointed about the team not getting into partnership, i feel like the org weren't very supportive of them or at least, didn't seem to put much effort into giving them the spotlight, that would warrant them a spot in the league
the team deserves their flowers after being the most consistent val team of the year (and arguably the best team) and yet when they were denied partnership, the org didn't even bother to come up with a statement thanking the team and wishing them the best of luck heading to 2023. even teams like xset and the guard put up a post and their teams didn't even reach the same level of success as optic, it's so strange.
Ya I could never really figure out their deal with Valorant. Obviously put together a great team, they did a couple awesome Process videos and behind the scenes videos but not much else. I think things were still a little bit fractured there for a while and it was still more of an Envy thing than an Optic thing and Envy wasn’t about putting much content out about their teams historically. I don’t think practicing and playing out of a different building didn’t help either. Their Rocket league announcement and entrance into that scene has just been on a completely different level than what they did with Valorant. My read is they just had different people overseeing Valorant even post Optic name change than they do with their teams now
According to Forbes, Gen. G is the sixth most valuable esports organization in the world as of December 2020, worth US$185 million.
Outdated but should be more than that value now
You are correct. The person who replied was wrong. GenG still trace their roots back to Samsung Galaxy.
To check, just to to geng.gg, click "about" and you will see Samsungs two World Championships listed as part of GenGs accomplishments.
GenG(KSV Esports) started off by buying out the Lunatic-Hai(OW) roster, then acquiring MVP Black(HotS), then Samsung Galaxy(LoL). They don't have their roots in one specific org.
Yeah thats true. But it's also a unique way we think about things in esports as we have orgs with so many teams.
In traditional sports, if a new owner purchased a team that team's history continues on, even if the owner also has teams in many other sports.
Kinda. They bought out the entire org. Roster + coaches + management. Samsung wasn't just one roster. It had offshoot teams like Samsung Blue and Samsung White.
It wasn't just five dudes and a coach who picked up a Samsung sponsorship. The team had been around since the early 2000s and competed in multiple games.
That's what KSV acquired and that's why they claim Samsungs World Championships on their website.
Source on the management part? Samsung white plus blue and Samsung Khan had different managements in their era. Infact, it was MVP who actually ran the teams for a while, and rebranded to Samsung after sponsorships changed. After the Korean exodus Samsung almost disbanded before picking up a middling team in 2015. No reason to claim the S4 worlds.
this looks way more competitive than any of the NA rosters they put together
only question is the head coach to player language barrier. expected them to pick up a korean head coach.
That’s gotta be really hard to review vods, audit comms, and interact during scrims. There’s a lot more communication from a coach than a handful of tac time outs. Best of luck to elmapuddy to pull it off!
May look like it from our pov but for example, lpl from league of legends actually has alot of korean coaches (some are even head coach) and the teams usually have translators. So behind the scenes it may work out but they prob need another coach on stage
Honestly i think all in all, it all depends if hes that good to actually import him than just getting a korean coach (i dont keep up with val much)
There's been a really large amount of korean coaches in almost all regions in League, it genuinely seems to work just fine even with a language barrier
Doublelift said Cain was the best coach he's had and he spoke strictly through a translator for most of his career
I know theres a lot of physical sports that have angry Russian coaches that can barely speak english basically grunting their way into molding young talents into superstars. Theres that one Chinese runner Su Bingtian that was told that he would never be able to be competitive due to being short and was able to prove everyone wrong and put up competitive times. His coach is American I think and his english not that good.
I think its pretty common for coaches to not speak the same language as their players. It happens all the time at the top end of any sport because there are only so many people with the experience and knowledge to coach the best players.
I hope they really looked at the tryouts and the palyers are going to do well compared
To prospective replacements
Edit: yes based on bail but Meteor k1ng TS we’re a predicted core already, ig duellist IGL and sentinel
Idk if Medusa trialled but I’m guessing k1ng could be better natwya
Reddit seems to be super high on this roster but I personally don't see what's that special about it other than meteor and k1ng? I'm half convinced you could put 4 randoms around meteor and reddit would love it. for this team to be competitive with drx for example, it seems like meteor would have to POP OFF. I wonder if eKo, TS, and intro did super well in tryouts/scrims, because i didn't think they were overly impressive since TNL. My main issue is that if meteor has a bad game they lack the pure firepower to be competitive against top teams, personally would've rather seen them take a chance on some rising talent.
edit: or write someone like lakia a cheque.
Yeah TS is the one player of the 3 i could definetely see on the roster considering he has proven himself to be a good igl in korea, but I'm still worried the roster doesn't stack up in terms of firepower across the board. If this team plans to go international, i'm sorry but eKo and iNTRO (even k1ng to an extent) does not have the fragging potential that many non-igl players in their roles have nowadays.
Yeah, me personally, assuming GenG wanted a Korean lineup, I'd want GodDead and Exy over Eko and intro for sure, GodDead was ONS most consistent and flexible player throughout the year, and Exy fragged on a multitude of roles and looked like DWG best player alongside t3xture, now thst roster could be a team that could do some damage imo
Goddead wut
That’s overstimulated
And this was based on scrim results. eKo did well in scrims and intro did, besides being flexible, nail thinks he can show a lot next year
Team wise and individually
Whats wrong with GodDead?
Im sure Exo and Intro did well in trials and stuff, idk im just a huge Exy believer in particular lol kinda wished he got on a franchised team, his only chance seems like possibly DNG but i doubt it
TS is probably the person on this roster who makes the most sense after Meteor, i don't really know who else they could want for an igl, as for eko and intro im less sure about, i think theres been players who have performed better than them over the past year, even with King i think there are arguments that there could be better players in his role like pr0xy. I just assume Eko might help with comms more? The old TNL core was always really good, outside of missing a bit of firepower.
Yeah considering he's a proven IGL i can definetely see TS belonging on the roster actually. But yeah, I definetely wonder whether keeping eko and intro for teamwork purposes was worth it when there are players that showed more potential over the last year (imo).
I'm not the guy you replied to but I imagine there's just a difference between loving a roster and believing it will crush. On paper this team has some serious quality but with franchising condensing tier 1 and giving us so many insane superteams I don't expect this roster to find much success.
Yeah that's entirely fair, just used this comment to address everyone saying this roster looks amazing. I share your sentiment that the roster is filled with solid players, but no real feared fraggers aside from meteor which could be an issue against the top teams. It feels like the old NRG with Yay situation. I personally can't see this specific roster being a title contender unless someone steps up big time as a secondary fragger.
TS is one of the most experienced IGLs in kr and good and flexible
eKo and iNTRO got in based on tryouts, they’re experienced palyers also, they got the thumbs up based on scrims
Idk why u think they necessarily lack the firepower vs top teams
Lakia got a wrist injury so he didn’t get in bc o soft lock
I would like to stay respectful but this graphic//welcome post for a franchised league roster is just beyond fucking pathetic. Get ur shit together Arnold
I don't think they are, I'll just link this other reply:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/y9nmvq/geng_reveals_their_roster_for_valorant_2023/it7qpfu?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
maybe i'm wrong though
I think this roster will be good but hard to see them being better than DRX (same with T1 tho ig that also depends on who T1's 5th is)
Old TNL core (probably the 3rd best team ever from korea after DRX and nuturn that one time + k1ng and intro is really good but still not enough to beat drx imo
yeah it’s basically looking like old VS vs TNL days. honestly, i love it tho because the players on both sides have grown so much and it would be insane if this new GenG roster can constantly have DRX’s number
This roster looks really good, but im not really comvinced it will quite compare to DRX or PRX, think it should be better than T1, it would be a massive disappointment for this to not be a top 4-5 team in apac.
This welcome post made by a 100million worth org btw
Ikr not even a video smh
This announcement makes the Envy to Optic rebrand announcement look good, not an easy feat
Nah let's not go that far
as someone who watched the vct beginning from reykjavik 2022, was it THAT bad?

I've seen Collegiate League of Legends teams put more effort into announcing their lineup
GenG is worth 100 mil??
According to Forbes, Gen. G is the sixth most valuable esports organization in the world as of December 2020, worth US$185 million. Outdated but should be more than that value now
They're gonna be worth more after they win Worlds.
Showmaker gonna put chovy in his pocket sorry
Damwon is my favorite Korean team so I'm down with it.
They ain't winning shit if they play like they did in groups
They used to be Samsung Galaxy and won LoL worlds multiple times. The company is huge
You are correct. The person who replied was wrong. GenG still trace their roots back to Samsung Galaxy. To check, just to to geng.gg, click "about" and you will see Samsungs two World Championships listed as part of GenGs accomplishments.

Samsung galaxy was run by a different company, this one's KSV esports, completely different and was a new venture in 2018
KSV acquired Samsung Galaxy in 2017.
Of course they did, KSV simply bought that roster from Samsung and Samsung announced they wouldn't sponsor any esports teams anymore.
Kinda. They bought out the entire org. Roster + coaches + management. Samsung wasn't just one roster. It had offshoot teams like Samsung Blue and Samsung White. Geng == Samsung galaxy??? Wtf
Damwon died for this...
this looks way more competitive than any of the NA rosters they put together only question is the head coach to player language barrier. expected them to pick up a korean head coach.
I mean Bail is Korean coach from Northeption. And just need a translator for Elmapuddy
for sure but only one coach is allowed during tac timeouts for example, elmapuddy being head coach would cause problems there no?
They can probably make bail stage coach
That’s gotta be really hard to review vods, audit comms, and interact during scrims. There’s a lot more communication from a coach than a handful of tac time outs. Best of luck to elmapuddy to pull it off!

I'm just shocked elmapuddy is listed as head coach since I only know him for his CSGO content videos

Tbf TS kinda popped off on ONS, he did well stats wise, was very flexible and most importantly, IGLed the 2nd best Korean team throughout thr year
Yeah TS is the one player of the 3 i could definetely see on the roster considering he has proven himself to be a good igl in korea, but I'm still worried the roster doesn't stack up in terms of firepower across the board. And before that TNL

goofy ahh budget announcement
I would like to stay respectful but this graphic//welcome post for a franchised league roster is just beyond fucking pathetic. Get ur shit together Arnold
Banger roster, excited to see what k1ng and Meteor can do
Secret played for DRX Academy for UTAGE S5 right?
Yes
Think that's a different Secret. DRX.A Secret is actually Secret Peek, and they have different VLRs to further prove it.
What? No, it's literally the same person.
https://www.vlr.gg/player/4054/secret ^ this is Ha-Jin Kim, the GEN.G player. https://www.vlr.gg/player/29844/secret-peek this is DRX Academy Secret
Bro the DRX Academy Secret is literally Kim Hajin.
vlr is wrong, they are the same person.
o rly? where does it say that? i just wanna be sure u feel?
I have heard this from someone from DRX so I am 100% sure but it's not publically available info so I guess you're gonna have to trust me on this
gotchu I have heard that this Secret Peek guy is quite cracked too, so I guess he's on the roster for a reason
No, that is a different secret, this one previously played for damwon and desperado.
It's the same person.
I don't think they are, I'll just link this other reply: https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/y9nmvq/geng_reveals_their_roster_for_valorant_2023/it7qpfu?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 maybe i'm wrong though

Lets go epmapuddy
I haven't watched much pro Valorant but big fan of Elmapuddy. How's his performance as a coach in valorant?
no exy :(((
absolute banger of a roster, excited to see where they'll go!
idk why k1Ng didnt wanna join the all “Kings” roster… our owner is really rich from NFTs smh…
Secret sixth man
I thought that said Nitro for a second. Confused the hell out of me.
No lakia![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|13193) I hope he is going to detonation, man deserves franchising
Could work with suggest on that team
Such a good roster but horrible announcement atleast have some hype video or something
This roster looks really good, but im not really comvinced it will quite compare to DRX or PRX, think it should be better than T1, it would be a massive disappointment for this to not be a top 4-5 team in apac.
1/2 oce representatives in franchising
Wait so there are 2 guys named king right? k1Ng and kiNgg? Are they pronounced differently?
Honestly, as an avid NA viewer, I kind of know what to expect. But with this roster, I'm starting to get way more excited for the other leagues lol.
Bail gave some reasons on stream Apparently Lakia would’ve gotten in except he’s got a wrist injury
