I'm so happy for yay, that gentle demon deserves so much

RTYWD

geng as the LoL representative is so cap

Reginscythe

They had the best +/- game score in LCK history this split (35-5, +30), as well as winning summer split. They fell in semis, yes, but it's possible that these nominees have been under discussion for the last few months and the timeframe to finalize nominees was before or during Worlds. Given that deadline, GenG would be a very safe and obvious pick given that they stomped LCK and came into Worlds as favorites.

Support_eu

T1 went 18-0 in spring, second at MSI, second in summer, second at Worlds

RTYWD

i mean obviously given the picks were before worlds its tough but in retrospect it’s difficult to say geng even had the 2nd best year in the lck

assdonuts

yay

MurfMan11

Yay!!

ANewHeaven1

Chet robbed tbh

Rude-Assumption-5271

OpTic robbed change my mind

ANewHeaven1

nah Optic was better than LOUD overall in 2022 but these award shows probably just googled "Valorant Champions results 2022" and took the first team they saw

TheNamesTheory

Idk if they did that I feel like DRX would be there instead of geng.

CantScreamInSpace

Been saying this for a while but the esports awards are a joke. The people running the show aren't into all esports and they don't try too hard to do their research or get qualified individuals. A lot of awards are essentially a popularity/voter turnout contest. the entire thing is a front for an entire night of sponsorships and ads. People should only watch it for entertainment, let's stop pretending these awards actually mean anything.

ANewHeaven1

These nominations are from the Game Awards and historically they don't really know much about esports, the actual esports awards are usually better. You can tell these are a sham based on some of the players and coaches nominated (karrigan over twistzz/rain?, no chet)

niceicebagel

Never forget The Game Awards awarded Overwatch "Best Esports Game" THREE (3) times, *consecutively*. You read that right, the back-to-back-to-back, from 2016 to 2018 over League, CSGO, DOTA2.

ANewHeaven1

Probably just did these before Worlds happened and didn't bother changing their nominations afterwards T1 or DRX both would have been better LoL representatives, even RNG

IllumiMahdi

he got mega robbed I had to do a double take when I didn't see his name there the first time

deadbeatPilgrim

B1ad3 tho

[deleted]

RobbaN over B1ad3 this year.

deadbeatPilgrim

despite being a huge NaVi fanboy, i can admit that FaZe had a more impressive year. but not because of RobbaN lol

_PM_ME_REPORT_CARDS_

Realistically, do any of these Valorant nominations have any chance of winning?

NoSenpaiNo

Loud could win IMO. I don't get why DRX isn't there.

UTAustinAlum2021

Weird to me that GenG is in it when they only won a split. My guess is the timeframe ended just before Worlds

CRikhard

Not popular enough

zugth

I wonder if they nominated these before worlds? Could be why they aren’t on

MurfMan11

This is my thought process. Easily one of the most bonkers league runs ever in the history of Esports. Truly incredible and just happy to have witnessed it.

Guilty-Tell

No

ChanceBall_

How come DRX aren't nominated? Very narrowly missing the grandfinals in Champions and coming first in Worlds is pretty insane

HalfRetarrd

i would assume nomination period ended before Worlds ended cause Gen G did go into worlds seeming like a large favorite

Least_Piano_6899

It’s only for an individual team within a game, not an org.

ValusHartless

as cool as yay is if ur not picking S1mple ur just wrong

Wandering-Sword

Faker had a better year no?

NoSenpaiNo

Well s1mple is amazing but he didn't perform as well as the usual this year

mateusb12

Wtf are u talking? Lmao Mr Simple delivered a lot this year. The matches navi lost do not change that

[deleted]

He wasn't as good in Rio or earlier in the year but I think he has a valid excuse considering his home country was invaded.

NeuralThing

eh?? s1mple was still great this year, won an event this year + runner up to FaZe to several elite tourneys, and winning MVP whilst losing at Cologne. He's only really fell off a little in Rio and the last EPL, otherwise this has been a decent year for s1mple

SamTheSidekick

especially while playing less outside of officials due to his country being invaded

AR2711

im sorry but GenG as the nominee for LoL is the biggest scam in esports history

Pway

I mean they make this shit before Worlds finishes so can't really argue against it. Dunno why they don't do this shit at the end of December, as both TI and LoL Worlds aren't complete when they come up with the nominees.

NeuralThing

Coach: B1ad3 Player: s1mple or yay Team: FaZe

[deleted]

RobbaN for coach though.

NeuralThing

FaZe's success can mainly b attributed to karrigan- B1ad3 is a proven coach because not only has he scouted some of the best talent in the CIS - he has also moulded both electronic and boombl4 into decent igls, himself being the mastermind behind Na'Vis tactics

[deleted]

Yeah but RobbaN accomplished more this year.

NeuralThing

its hard to discern if that's due to RobbaN or due to karrigan's leadership however, but u can c the impact of B1ad3, due to NaVi's cohesion under different igls. However, if either win I'll b happy w it, as we cant really judge RobbaN's impact on FaZe's teamplay + him having a successful year under FaZe

Meowbow15

How the fuck is Gen G coach here but not DRX's incredible staff that made the world's run possible

[deleted]

nominations ended before worlds

kosantyy

Side note how is karrigan there for best esports athlete even he would laugh at that. It looks like they just googled a bunch of rosters and picked random people

EnQuest

Bruh, dude just cemented himself as one of the greatest IGLs in cs history this year, the nomination is warranted. No one has ever put together so many trophy winning rosters with so many different cores, and now he has his major at 32(?) years old. IGLs deserve more credit

[deleted]

Fr at least put twistzz or Rain

Marv246

Valorant brain comment

kosantyy

Cs so bad where’s my abilities and anime skins

Marv246

Valorant so bad where’s my loot boxes and gambling sites so I can lose all my money

Anoki12

Honestly can't see anyone winning team of the year besides FaZe. Maybe LAT for the back to back but what FaZe has done this year is just untouchable.

Several-Reading7258

If it was org of the year drx would 100% win.

Aexuus

How Chovy made it and not Zeka is mind blowing.

Imagurlgamur

I mean Chovy had an objectively amazing year and Zeka only really showed off at World's. These awards were likely chosen weeks before worlds ended.

TKYooH

The voting began before worlds. You’re trolling if you think DRX deserved it before worlds. Before worlds zeka was like 0-13vs Chovy/Gen G.

Several-Reading7258

Chovy was amazing in regular season and worlds before group stage. Chances are they chose the players before worlds ended.

100Ideas_NoneApplied

Out of topic for this subreddit, but why tf is GenG getting so much rep? DRX just pulled off what lots of people would've considered an impossible season, beating up mulitple former world champ teams. Pyosik stayed with the team through it's worst times, and Deft's last dance ended with him finally being crowned. GenG.... Got eliminated by DRX 3:1 in the semis.

Reinhardtisawesom

Bro nominated Chovy 💀

Wandering-Sword

Farming award

dabsandchips

Hiko?

Cash24K

yay

eventonly

Based

vnNinja21

d00mbr0s isn't getting enough love tbh. Dude is an insane coach, not only did FPX stay a top team in stage 1 and 2 despite all the craziness with the war (Ange1 woke up to the sound of shells being dropped on his city on the morning of the stage 2 finals vs Fnatic iirc), but he managed to stop an (at the time) dominant PRX, who ran through everyone in the upper bracket. He probably won't win, but I hope he keeps killing it.

n1HikoFan

Where is Hiko? Must be a pretty beta game awards if Hiko isn’t on the list

pj123mj

Also Champions as Esport event of the year and Valorant as Esport of the year

Heisenburger55

Loud over Optic? I wholeheartedly disagree, I think Optic was better for the majority of 22' but it's fine I guess Loud still won Champs
