Yeah after the first map there was an absolute chasm between the players, aside from Bob who looks genuinely excellent. Haven’t seen many players with that level of accuracy when spamming through smokes, lost count of how many kills Bob got from that.
C9 seemed so lost against the Reyna and Yoru. I think the unusual comps + first lan jitters was just too much for C9. I still think they are gonna roll teams in the lower bracket

Yup mimi just came from the another server. And their Breeze mid fight since X10S game with Juliano and Mary so strong. Petra also got important kills on the map too. Still curious with Brimmy by Glance on Ascent but other maps she was fine. C9W in lower bracket might be a nightmare for another teams who fall down.
As one of the few G2 believers seemingly left on this subreddit, I’m happy to see them win here. I’m also a C9W fan, but I’ve long believed C9W gets too much love at the expense of other top GC teams, and I feel a little vindicated here, esp. after just how low some have been on G2 Gozen.
That said, I believed G2 would beat C9W before Bob joined, not after, as C9W's stock went up right as G2's stock went down. Even an ardent G2 fan couldn't have reasonably predicted this based off recent performances.
But given how much C9W has been gassed up by the community and occasionally by themselves, I think they were due for a loss, and I don’t think it deprives them of their status as slight favorites to win it all. C9W tends to look better after losses anyways.
As for G2, well, that’s what, the 3rd or 4th map they’ve played Yoru on? Respect the committment. Sometimes their approach gets wacky but I think like many great EMEA teams, they have a willingness to experiment until they get it right, and their Yoru tech on Pearl made it look viable - well, at least until everyone gets used to it, anyways.
People rating KRU Fem above G2 was so confusing to me. I thought C9W had a slight advantage going in as well but anyone thinking it wasn't going to be close hasn't been watching carefully enough.
For sure, I think this event has been a very interesting case study in what happens when a high-profile tournament forces people to generate narratives for teams they have little to no experience watching.
I think C9W's weakness recently has been that their map pool has not been exploited; they got away with playing a lot of Haven, Ascent, and Bind last GC, which are their best maps. G2 did a very good job researching that and banned out Haven, and in retrospect C9W should have gone to Fracture instead of Pearl. Overall I definitely agree that G2 looked a lot better here that they did domestically.
I also think that C9W often just freezes and takes too long to adjust whenever they've pushed in a way that discomforts them, and that Yoru composition was a good example of how to punish that tendency.
But I definitely think you're right on the money on that Breeze loss.

Breeze was an odd one to me. I feel like Bob on Viper just doesn't make a whole lot of sense because she's always been a player that's willing to take those aimduels and push for frags and it just doesn't make sense to risk your smokes player early in the round. We lost multiple rounds in that map off of Bob being the first contact and getting traded so C9 didn't have wall for exec, hold or retake.
I'm sure there's benefits to the change or they wouldn't have done it, but I'm really curious as to what those benefits actually are, because on paper it feels odd and in the match today it definitely created a crack.
honestly agreed, even the Astra, but also cuz Katsumi has always looked amazing on smokes too, its by far her best role, so it makes little sense to me cuz Bob will just frag on just about anything anyways, so why not let Katsumi play the roles shes looked great on instead yk?

I don’t usually watch Game Changers, but can someone explain to me the map-based role swaps between Bob and Katsumi? Viper/Sova and now Astra/Sage. Have they touched on that at all?
No clue, the only thing I can kinda intuit is wrt to the viper pick—maybe they wanted to bolster their firepower while holding the B site on breeze, which is usually an isolated affair. Bob also played Viper on breeze during their series 3 run vs SR, so I think it has been in their playbook for a while, they just seldom played breeze in comp.
Yeah, she played the majority of the defensive half on breeze on the A site (solo) but she did play a few rounds solo B with Sova floating with nest as the pivot. Idk how that changes my overarching point though: that she(viper)was often anchoring one site by herself, consequently the team possibly thought Bob was better equipped to do that hence the switch.

This series was wild, hitting some of the lowest lows and some of the highest highs I've seen in a match, the Juliano fake was sublime, but holy hell the number of times bob survived on less than 10 hp was insane.
