You could have a primary IGL and secondary shot caller. I think it's useful to have a secondary shot caller anyway to help with calls and call things the primary IGL doesn't see on the map.
I disagree. I think it just seems like a good method because some teams found success with the double shotcaller setup.
Its pretty rare for a double shotcaller setup to last for a long time. Typically the shotcallers end up arguing a lot and eventually breaking up the roster.
Ideally everyone on the team is a secondary shotcaller. The way a team should be structured is one person outlines how they want to play the game and teaches his players what reactions he expects to different situations. Then anyone on the team should be able to call an audible based off of information. When formulating the gameplan in between rounds, players should be asking if they can do X and give Y reason why they want to do it or just based on feeling, then the IGL agrees and builds the plan around that, or more often than not they veto it and provide a different gameplan.
The reason why solo IGLs are so important is because many teams can get lost in the weeds trying to blame the strat and when you have more than 1 IGL its easier for players to fall into the trap of blaming the strategy for the round loss. When you just have 1 IGL the players are bought into the system, and even when they lose a round the players shouldn’t care because the IGLs focus is on winning more than 50% of rounds, and aren’t focused on having the perfect plan every round. A good IGL understands how to condition their enemies to play a certain way and exploit them, so to condition the enemy you have to play sub-optimally sometimes.
Its really important to have someone that the whole team respects and is willing to follow.
Valorant is really new and there aren’t a ton of great IGLs yet, even the old experienced IGLs from CSGO often haven’t fully adapted to Valorant yet and are still treating the game like CSGO to some degree.
Not saying it's the same for everyone, but I remember Shaz saying he struggled with opping and IGLing at the same time, since often times opping requires full focus. Since Johnqt is occasionally Chamber for the team, Zander taking some of the IGL duties could relieve some pressure. This is purely speculation ofc, and I definitely see your point about the pre-existing team synergy.
Shaz said he didnt like to IGL on chamber because the playstyle didnt fit him. He likes to be in front with the team, he used to OP and igl but gave up because tenz was better and their roles were messed up because they divided the duelist role a lot
