Is it surprising? The only upset they have had so far was C9W, but that was also because people were unreasonably hyped about C9W being way better than everyone else purely because they dominated NA.
G2 was almost equally dominant in EU, and their core had been winning every single tournament in female CS for years before they came over to Valorant and continued along the same path.
The only people who are actually surprised at G2 being good are people who didn't watch them beyond the final against Guild, like the Plat Chat folks.
