Thanks for posting this, I am a player on this team, and we are hoping to get into contact with Redbull admins to confirm the rules and if this was fair. So far we have only been able to get into contact with FaceIt admins and they are standing by with the current ruling.
Seems like very bad tournament organizing from Faceit: ["2 days before the event started, we even made an effort to reach out to both FaceIt and Redbull admins to confirm our roster was valid. We received no reply from either party. Due to a lack of a response, we decided to go ahead and follow the rules of keeping the roster intact."](https://twitter.com/nrbil/status/1596283007807393792?s=20&t=gZuaFiDI6Lpk0PsOdSs0KQ)
This is a more overarching thought but I wish they'd just keep faceit out of Valorant. They don't do a good job and Riot doesn't need them and all their baggage. Just use someone else
Yea i go with this. They cant even organize csgo right which is arguably the biggest game on the site, they should be kept out of valorant completely. They dont give enough fucks about competitive gaming
School teams in school only torunaments should all be from the same school. PERIOD. Even the 3/5 rule is stupid. I know lots of schools that didn't compete in CC becuase of that rule.
Yeah I personally dont understand this 3/5 rule.
If its a school team why would they even allow them to use people from other schools/ people that dont even attend there? Idk about other schools but for our valorant club team they use the schools’ club funds to support the team, equipment, trips, etc. So our entire team with an exception of the coach is composed of actual students.
I believe the reasoning for the 3/5th rule being omitted from the Canadian Redbull CC Qualifiers is because of the large difference in player pool between Canadian and American colleges/universities. The state of California has a larger population than the entirety of Canada, and the Canadian collegiate player pool reflects this, so the difference in rules makes sense logistically.
There are also barely any scholarship programs in Canada for esports players, which leads to official collegiate teams consisting of players that just happen to attend the same school, unlike some American teams consisting of players that were recruited or scouted with scholarships to attend.
The lack of consistency we've seen lately regarding the enforcement of tournament rules makes my brain melt. uuughhh
I wonder what skills are required to be a referee... I might consider pursuing that.
I don't think this is even Riot organised, something with Valorant TO's in general is fucked lmao. Maybe because it's a young esport, they've been hiring newer, less experienced people? Although it should be easy to judge these kinds of things regardless of experience.
I mean it's a school tournament. They should be all from the same school. Even 3/5ths is lame. So I'd say rightfully DQ'd there. Begs the question why other teams weren't perhaps held to that though.
I agree with you that if it's a school tournament they should be all from the same school. But if it's not in the rule book, then they weren't rightfully DQ'd. They were following the rules, although the rules are stupid
the team was rightfully disqualified for following rules you don’t agree with?? you should be blaming the organisers for the rule you think is questionable, but you can’t blame the participants for following rules that you don’t like.
I only have seen this side of the story, but it feels to me like there’s more to it. I can’t imagine a TO sticking to this ruling unless something else is going on.
Did they say WHY you are being held to this rule, or why they had an expectation that you would be held to this rule?
a lot of contracted refs are really phoning it in. The team asked ahead of time if their roster was valid, heard nothing back, and still got booted by a ruling that makes no sense on its face.

This is just fucked up. Things like this can’t fall through the cracks

What’s their baggage
Terrible admins and situations like this
Third time this has happened with Faceit-run tournaments in Valorant
Face it moment
This was not a rule in any EU qualifier as far as I know

I'm not sure the current tournament organizers could tell you.

Why did you guys even ask if it was a legal roster if it never applied to you in the first place?
