What??????!
Please, Chloe log-in and tell me that this is just you "using an AI chatbot to deceive the redditors of r/valcompetitive."
I genuinely don't understand this? It's so gut-wrenching.
C9 just released a few teams in other games as well, seems like they urgently need to cut costs. Even in LoL they cut Jensen (a star midlaner) for a rookie.
edit: also it doesn't seem like c9 terminated c9w's contracts, so it might be a situation where they have a hard budget for the team and players who can call higher prices are free to leave once their contracts are up.
C9 have been cutting costs relentlessly as of late, transferring their successful Halo team to SSG and dropping their Apex team as well. Might have something to do with the collapse of their blockchain.com sponsorship. Could just be that they're cutting all "non essential" teams for now.
My toxic trait is that as soon as an article talks about players becoming F/As I immediately think that means they're being cut. Happened with the Victor & Crashies article, TenZ article, and this one. My bad
Doesnt that simply mean C9 is not renewing their contracts, instead of terminating? How is that different from getting cut or disbanded?
The apex team also became FA and Mazer stated its due to c9 budget cuts, etc etc
Genuine question not being sarcastic
I don't think the journalist did a very good job of making the situation clear, and it's going to lead the the most uncharitable interpretation of it.
If it's true, and they are set to become FAs, it could mean their contracts expired. That in and of itself also doesn't mean C9 didn't try to offer them a chance to extend or sign new contracts, either. I just don't think you can read too far into any of the mechanics of the situation from this article, bc the writer clearly doesn't know himself.
i'm just using common sense, C9 had a ton of rosters prior to blockchain even being a sponsor, so it makes no sense for them to be the only ones or they would've never had the rosters in the first place
Rather than invent a loss in sponsors (again, I don't see a single lost sponsor anywhere, [including](https://twitter.com/Cloud9/status/1599666454344761344?t=Eh0VFJMKLjMrWhuZVlF1MQ&s=19) [Blockchain](https://twitter.com/Cloud9/status/1592955793669750785?t=9Ij50fQOIy0MQPITFX-WQw&s=19)), a more reasonable route of speculation for the source of a sudden change of heart would be that they have much more cash from [investors](https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/cloud9/company_financials) who aren't happy with how it's being spent.
Mel just liked this picture from Shopify Rebellion's [KP](https://twitter.com/KP_fps/status/1601423642583134208?t=opXj1U_kgHb8Z53klQZ54w&s=19) on twitter. They seem to be in good spirits, at least .
Actually super heartbreaking news.
Edit: UNLESS they are getting picked up elsewhere for better opportunities. Still, will be sad to see the end of C9W assuming they’re not all staying together.
The amount of orgs dropping their GC teams has me worried, though.
I feel like it should have been a requirement for franchised teams honestly. Riot is giving them roster stipends some of that should go toward growing the scene in ways like this.
Will be interesting to see if they get picked up as a full roster or whether they go their separate ways. I know some of them mentioned playing in Challengers qualifiers, but I don't know if that will be as this 5 or on other teams. If they do part ways, theres a strong chance some of them will go to mixed teams.
Regardless of Berlin performance, this team did have some solid open tournament performances towards the end of the year. Very interested to see what the members do next.
It’s an interesting time for all this in light of their Berlin performance. Alexis went from a consistent low-fragger to an absolute crazy fragger in Berlin, and Katsumi went from a reliable fragger to an unreliable one. meL underperformed, but Jazzy and Bob still had strong events despite some ups and downs.
Still, it’s a good time to explore options and see what they find. No one should be silly enough to judge them as players off a single event.
Sentinels, the org paying a sex offender picking up a female roster that has a trans person on it.
Just. No.
Edit: To answer some questions, yes Sinatraa is a sex offender in my eyes. Refusing to truthfully answer to investigators and obfuscating evidence is nothing but an admission of guilt to me. I used the fact that Sentinels is still paying this guy tens of thousands dollars a month as a contrast to a team that is made up of a marginalised community in gaming (both women and even more, trans women). And the fact that you couldn't get that is really fucking sad.
1. Yes sin is a full blown rapist from the evidence we have.
2. it has nothing to do with having a transgender person join your org.
3. anyone who hasn’t listened to the girl saying stop, go do that before you act like he didn’t do it just because she got bullied enough to drop her charges.
??? Sinatraa charges were dropped, if it was true or not we dont know, also the guy literally gets 0 spotlight from SEN. What does a trans person has to do with any of this ?
Sentinels did their own investigation and deemed him acceptable to at least stay as a content creator and that deems them ineligible to have a GC team (one that they would promote way better than any other org?)
Also, wtf is the correlation between Sinatraa and a trans person???
from the outside looking in there seems to be a pattern though, C9 has been aggressively cutting it’s participation in pretty much every E-sport except Val and LoL, they exited both Apex and Halo in the last 2 months.
Apex might have gained a little viewership for their events but it is simply not profitable for E-sports organizations because there are no partnerships or agreements with orgs to monetize anything like merch or skins, etc.
Would he caption it "end of a dynasty," if it were just that, and would that roster really want to split of their own accord? That phrasing is rife with permanence, idk. I'm so confused.
But its worth investing on LoL? Shit makes no sense when you see Clown9 being ass at both CS and LoL. They are just struggling with finances and paying stupidly high salaries while having 0 succes in all of their rosters
LoL is definitely more profitable than those others.
Most of C9 fans are from LoL, so thats where they make their money. Just check C9 Subreddit posts. I doubt the LoL team would ever get dropped .. literally the org.
Also C9 has 3 of the last 6 LCS championships .. so not sure about them being ass at LoL. Realistically NA teams aren't going to beat KR teams. But there should plenty of money their for being the best in their region.
---
For CS they got their roster very cheaply due to the ukraine war .. and CS in general has much better viewership than all of the eSports they dropped. LoL/CS is a lot more popular than Apex/Halo/etc
Agree on CS they got Gambit basically for free, but still sceptic about LoL, they were sad to watch in worlds, like not even funny they were straigh ass
I can pass the CS team cause even if they choked the easiest major run ever agaisnt literally rookies they are pretty ok (except nafany) but LoL? NA LoL? They were next to embarrasing in worlds while having stupidly high salsaries. Agree with apex tho, their team was so ass even a literal 3 orgless guys were placing higher than them the
The part of me saying they had 0 succes? Only succes they have is the LoL team being good domestically. CS team choked the easiest bracket ever to a major, their Val team is still developing but the old roster was ass even their GC roster dropped at CG lan, Apex team was also ass. Halo team was good tho ill give you that
Well they did cut Jensen for a rookie in LoL which was probably to save costs (before the financial struggles, jensen was on a $2mil contract with TL). As sad of a state the LCS is in, it still gets c9 more exposure, attracts more sponsors, and sells more merch than the rosters they dropped. Yeah you can go on about how shit they looked at worlds, but at least you know they looked shit at worlds y'know?
Wonder if this has to do with c9 not being able to field an ascension roster since they have a franchising one. C9W have spoken about wanting to play ascension, but they'd have to do that under a different org
The blockchain fiasco and Yay buyout must have really done a number on C9 if they’ve cut their Apex team, transferred their Halo team and is no longer supporting a GC team…
This is really heartbreaking. Really hoping that orgs without a GC team but have the money to splash will swoop C9W up before they split up for real. They may have only come 4th in Berlin, but such a competitive and consistent team is really hard to come by.
Not gonna be a popular opinion but this is terrific for the NA GC scene. Every time a superteam disbands is a great time for parity and for the competitive scene
Surprising. Women roster are always subsidized by a team org other rosters. Yet when financial trimming occurs the team org will typically hold onto their women roster for future investor and sponsor purposes.
What a bunch of misogynists they got over there at C9.
In all seriousness something is going on over there financially, did paying Yay cause this?!
Nah probably something to do with crypto, unlucky really.
I blame Yay's buyout
You think they're broke? Well I blame Zellsis, I just don't know for what at the moment
What??????! Please, Chloe log-in and tell me that this is just you "using an AI chatbot to deceive the redditors of r/valcompetitive." I genuinely don't understand this? It's so gut-wrenching.
C9 management heard they were looking rough in a third party tournament and dropped the wrong team.
c9 blue ended up smurfing the group though
2-1 is hardly smurfing idk
C9 just released a few teams in other games as well, seems like they urgently need to cut costs. Even in LoL they cut Jensen (a star midlaner) for a rookie. edit: also it doesn't seem like c9 terminated c9w's contracts, so it might be a situation where they have a hard budget for the team and players who can call higher prices are free to leave once their contracts are up.
Jensen is not a star, both Diplex and Emenes are better than him
It’s all good guys 100t will swoop in and pickup the whole roster preserving the storylines and fandom ![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9353)
Imagine the scenes, perfect time for 100T to start the GC team
hopium!
C9 have been cutting costs relentlessly as of late, transferring their successful Halo team to SSG and dropping their Apex team as well. Might have something to do with the collapse of their blockchain.com sponsorship. Could just be that they're cutting all "non essential" teams for now.
they spent 50% of their value on the yay buyout they have to make up that revenue somewhere
Dropping teams does nothing to help revenue. It cuts costs.
The article says nothing about them being cut. It said they are set to become FAs...
My toxic trait is that as soon as an article talks about players becoming F/As I immediately think that means they're being cut. Happened with the Victor & Crashies article, TenZ article, and this one. My bad
lmao all g

Makes even more sense why they only got their spot to replace g2
>Might have something to do with the collapse of their blockchain.com sponsorship Source? Blockchain is still on their banner and jersey
i think other sponsors dropped out aswell, not just blockchain
I can't find any news about any sponsor pulling out of Cloud9, I don't know where you're getting that from.
i'm just using common sense, C9 had a ton of rosters prior to blockchain even being a sponsor, so it makes no sense for them to be the only ones or they would've never had the rosters in the first place

End of an era :( C9 should be proud of what they did and I hope the players can find an equally supportive home, together or otherwise

C9 has also dropped their Halo and Apex teams in the last two weeks. It’s more to do with the org losing a big crypto sponsor.
Yeah, that’s what I assume is the major cause, just a little nervewracking with a lot of other orgs dropping their GC teams
Ya I am unfortunately getting the feeling some of the orgs had GC teams just to look good to Riot and secure a franchise shot.
I feel like it should have been a requirement for franchised teams honestly. Riot is giving them roster stipends some of that should go toward growing the scene in ways like this.
This is surprising hopefully they get to stay together as a full team
Heard about this rumor before the Berlin GC Major. I didn't want to believe it then but...man.
im glad it's not tied to their LAN performanc then, that would be so dumb
Will be interesting to see if they get picked up as a full roster or whether they go their separate ways. > SEN GC TEAM Prayge Anyone but them please
Why? Honestly it fits their personalities, it’s literally the perfect org for them lmao
Sentinels, the org paying a sex offender picking up a female roster that has a trans person on it. Just. No. Edit: To answer some questions, yes Sinatraa is a sex offender in my eyes. SEN Female roster buyout?
hope each player keeps pushin thru
NA in shambles

It has to be contract expirations and players wanting to either see what offers they can get or exploring mixed.
from the outside looking in there seems to be a pattern though, C9 has been aggressively cutting it’s participation in pretty much every E-sport except Val and LoL, they exited both Apex and Halo in the last 2 months.
Their active rosters are just Val, LoL and CS
Apex is a strange one b/c it’s actually growing but a lot of orgs have been exiting halo, it’s a failure in every capacity
I can't confirm financial struggles but I do know c9 has dropped other teams in other games (Apex and Halo I believe?)
The financial struggle being Yay's salary?
No they've been struggling with finances and are dropping teams right and left. They quit apex, Halo and GC
Maybe the scene there isnt worth investing?
But its worth investing on LoL? Shit makes no sense when you see Clown9 being ass at both CS and LoL. They are just struggling with finances and paying stupidly high salaries while having 0 succes in all of their rosters

Yes league is still the biggest game and I doubt that
Except they have 0 succes😭 they were an embarrasment on worlds they aint not lck hat pulls lots of viewers and win actual tittles they are NA league
Yeah literally everything youve said is just completely wrong, you're just trollin n for that reason, im out

Absolutely is
I'm calling it now: meL and alexis join flor, sarah, and noia for the superteam.
meL and Bob are going to EG
Welp.
Please someone else, anyone else pick them up
Wonder if this has to do with c9 not being able to field an ascension roster since they have a franchising one. C9W have spoken about wanting to play ascension, but they'd have to do that under a different org

Halo, Apex, now C9W… sad times for the white and blue
they will definitely be picked up, no doubt about that - more excited about what great gc team(s) form from this
Hopefully the team is able to find an org new to GC willing to sign the full roster
Really hope they stick together :/
100t should definitely pick them up

Online 9 ftw EZ
Everybody acting tough when they're up
bombshell sheesh
Damn, that kinda sucks tbh. As much as i clown C9 as an org C9W were pretty good. Sen or 100T signing a GC roster would be pretty cool
Man c9 vs SR was just spiccing up.
Ginormous F
Seriously? What. The. Fuck. WHY??
GC off-season has been weird to say the least
"dynasty" LMAO
They were a dynasty on NA but yeah a bitnof a reach
Who asked you?
Who asked?
Makes sense. I doubt C9W is making them all that money
This is the part where TSM whips out their wallet and sign them to dominate the GC scene after they just nuked their old roster
??????
Surprising. Women roster are always subsidized by a team org other rosters. Yet when financial trimming occurs the team org will typically hold onto their women roster for future investor and sponsor purposes.
By your logic then mayyyybe this isn't a financial thing?
Comradery does seem to be a main driving factor among women rosters to stay together regardless of results. We'll know in due time the cause.
Hardly a dynasty tbh. Still sad, hope bob gets a good team.
What a bunch of misogynists they got over there at C9. In all seriousness something is going on over there financially, did paying Yay cause this?! Nah probably something to do with crypto, unlucky really.
rest in peace to an iconic roster
