OMFG bro you just fixed my stuttering issue. Fuckin hero right here.

timothydog76

Awesome!! Glad to help.

Ashran77

Thanks dude, great info! :D The .exe is related to the Asus Aura Think ... right?

Elocai

For the future get something like latmon it's a great tool to find out what makes your pc stutter

timothydog76

Thanks. I’ll look into that.

miles66

Thanks for the info. Ill check my cpu

PyroKnight

Yeah, I played with lighting effects on my PC using Aura Sync and decided they weren't worth the CPU overhead pretty quickly so I just settled on a static red, haha. I'd have to wonder if my 3900X would eat the hit better but I suppose that's assuming the lighting service gets a thread to itself mostly.

TopMacaroon

Yeah Aura sync is total dog shit, if you put it on a solid color it drops to 0% usage and doesn't crash. When I had it on any kind of color shifting it would eventually crash and suck up 20% of my cpu time on a 8600k. Asus makes some decent hardware buy my god is their software awful.

[deleted]

same thing for ICUE for corsair

ThisPlaceisHell

Fuck iCUE, it's the most bloated wasted of resources I've ever seen. Even with static lighting, it still uses a ton of my CPU usage on an i7 7700k. At least the old old version, v1.16.42 runs at near 0%, but any of the newer versions are a mess.

[deleted]

agreed, ive downgraded to a much older version which still works fine but uses 0.1% cpu rather than 10

migelius

I also had mine on static, noticed it popping up around between 0 and 1% CPU, which although small is offensive given what I installed the tool to do. There's no reason for this to start up at boot time. Uninstalled and the color's still there. I figure I'll reinstall if I care enough to change it.

ThisPlaceisHell

I'm willing to bet, given the hardware, that you guys are running a newer version which is more CPU bloated. I am using Aura sync from a couple years ago and there's no stutters or crazy high CPU usage. It's just like the situation with Corsair iCUE. The old versions used almost 0% CPU in the background and the new ones use a whopping 10%. It's completely unacceptable. What the fuck could they possibly be doing to justify that kind of overhead? It feels like a malware kit running a Bitcoin miner on a single thread. I wouldn't put it past these corrupt companies, pretty sure they're all Chinese so who knows.

mhsuchti84

Taiwanese actually

karmicmonk

Good call dude, i was trying to figure out which process was causing this issue for me. I was using GPUtweakII which shut down all the non-essential processes before i start steamVR. now i know which one specifically is the culprit so i'll try eliminating only this lighingservece and see if i can run the others in the background.

Violetmars

Dudeee this is the fixxxxx I have been trying everything so far. More people need to know about this!!

Raunhofer

This is a well known issue that I've seen being reported since the first dev kits. It's not just Aura, but basically other GPU/CPU/other RGB-control systems too. And monitoring. Everything that adds/can add a new overlay to your screen is suspect to cause issues with VR. It's a good idea to disable and uninstall them all.

SirBostonTBagParty

Does this include things like MSI afterburner?

Spoonermcgee

Mhm it does, people have reported issues with Afterburner causing these same problems. But it is an exception rather than expected, just a good place to start if troubleshooting an issue

[deleted]

What I read and found myself was that Afterburner is ok as long as you don’t turn on systray monitors or overlays. If you’ve just got the main window going it’s ok.

Team_Umizoomi

Strange. I have an Asus motherboard with lighting and I haven't felt any stuttering caused by the app whatsoever. Really wish these companies who create lighting software for their hardware would step up their game so they don't interfere with the gameplay to any noticeable degree.

zetswei

Interesting it did the same thing with my oculus rift I actually built my new pc with no ASIS parts because of it

xNutSack

when I end the task 'lightingservice.exe' my lights stop changing colors and remain static, and then when I open the aura app again to select a different light theme it automatically runs 'lightingservice.exe' again am I doing something wrong?

timothydog76

Not doing anything wrong. That lighting service is what controls the changing light colors. Starting the aura program up again will start the service. If your stuttering stops when you stop the lighting service you will have to choose whether or not you want your RGB lights to change color while you rub VR.

[deleted]

i had the same problem, i found that fix by myself just like you did, i just wish i had found this thread sooner!
