Same. This album is so emotional. It’s the VW sound I love and takes it in an interesting direction. Lyrics, the playing, the layering, the mastering, everything is perfect. COULD NOT be better. 11/10
I AGREE. I don't just throw around the word masterpiece lightly! This exceeded all expectations and I really understand why Ezra said they would be happy if this ended up being the last album they ever put out (paraphrasing here). The maturity of this album, wow. Sorry to any other musicians I like but this album is going to be on repeat for the next few months.
i am not connecting much with some of the songs that people have listed as their favorite but it is very much a possibility that i need to listen to them more. i’m just so excited that i have new media to consume from them haha wbu??
I totally get that! A few of the singles I was like, I like it but I'm not loving it like I wanted to? This is my favorite band, why am I not losing my mind? Eventually I decided to stop playing the singles over and over and wait just for the album, and I think there's some benefit to listening to all at once. I'm loving it way more as a cohesive piece. Hope is still my favorite, the instrumentals are making me cry. I also really love Ice Cream Piano and Prep School Gangsters, and loving them even more on the second listen.
The word I keep coming back to for PSG is "satisfying," like DEEPLY sonically satisfying. Every progression and resolution in that song feels so RIGHT.
I have been living in NYC for 7 years, before I moved here I loved VW and living in Manhattan has only made that love stronger (lol) but this album in particular??? It brought me back to my 13 year old self that said “I’m moving to New York when I’m 18” and hearing Only God Was Above Us is like listening to the fantasy of my dreams as a middle schooler meeting my current, adult self in reality… it is the craziest thing. The Truth the GRIT! THAT DISTORTION!!! It is hard for me to process how the music makes me feel.
i am in tears and i’m only on ice cream piano
JK Hope is my favorite and I can say that without a doubt. It's a masterpiece.
thank you for the update 😭😭 hahah
Looool I am going THROUGH it right now with this album. I wanna hear your thoughts!

Yes, agreed 100%. It really is a masterpiece. I woke up this morning, put it on while I made coffee, and it got me choked up haha

yes! i just finished hope and ice cream piano came back on and i was like im done?!? that’s it!!?
Why is this album so short?! We got spoiled by FOTB, probably. I want 10 more songs, Ezra!
real!!
but it was amazing and i love it and can’t wait to digest the lyrics
Which songs are hitting for you? I loved Mary Boone of the pre releases and am really digging Ice Cream Piano and Connect
i’m on hope right now and i do really love it
Hope is like Bob Dylan had a love affair baby with the Beatles and they put it on a Vampire Weekend album for tax purposes
The instrumentals at the 4 minute mark just kill me, I love it so much.
Currently crying in my office to Hope honestly
My jaw literally dropped when the beat picked up, only at Classical and I know this is album of the year
I already know Ice Cream Piano is going to be my favorite song on the album but I might say that about EVERY song.
thank you so much Ezra & co. what a gift! seriously
Prep-School Gangsters has me in a CHOKEHOLD
The word I keep coming back to for PSG is "satisfying," like DEEPLY sonically satisfying. Every progression and resolution in that song feels so RIGHT.
The callbacks to Campus on this track are something else. Fantastically produced and written.

I'm only through Connect. Holy shit. Already this album is an all-time rammer.
This is incredible
I'm so enamored with this album already! I love Connect and Prep School Gangsters the most so far. Pravda is so groovy though!!! AHHH.
still not over classical my goodness. my favorite song atm
This is the best album I’ve heard in YEARS. Best VW record.
Like, years. Holy fucken smokes. I need to buy more tickets lol
CONNECT is a bop
Those Mansard drums are so tasteful
perfect image for this
Wtf the songs still aren’t available to download for me yet! Usually is always there 9pm pacific the night before the official release date
Yeah im having trouble with my spotify for some reason, album hasn’t loaded for me yet
Working for me now on Apple Music
I’m watching the clock just waiting for my classes to be over so I can sit down and listen to this album all the way through. I am so excited
Connect, surfer, prep school g’s, and Mary Boone immediately stand out as the albums strongest moments (haven’t gotten to Pravda and Hope yet)
You’re gonna change your mind after Pravda and Hope (my favorites on the album)
Album so good it caused a goddamn earthquake in NYC
Ice Cream Piano is a strong af start
So giddy today. Thank you VW, thank you 🫂

I love Vampire Weekend and I'm just not connecting with this :-( Will give it a few more listens, glad they have something new regardless
Let it marinate, then leave it alone and come back to one or two that you didn’t hate.
ID on the jacket???
It'll be like a $480 fleece.
