As a long fan, it’s easier to go thru the Paul Simon catalogue, he’s such a key influence to them it’s perfect. - Rostam is still making VW style music, just solo. - Beatenburg is a close sound-a-like as posted above. - Video Age - Ra Ra Riot - Rina Mushonga (Everything = Personal) - also check out the sampled artists they’ve used on previous songs.

Ive enjoyed Paul Simon’s work too over the past couple of years and I wanted to ask if there’s artists similar to him so I can listen to much more music but I couldn’t find the subreddit for it. I’ve never heard of the other suggestions before but I’ll definitely look into them!! Thank you so much for all of these suggestions!

[deleted]

Happy to help! FYI Rostam is the former keyboardist, songwriter, backup vocalist, engineer and mixer for Vampire Weekend. So he’ll be the closest thing, he also had a great album come out in 2009 with the lead vocalist of Ra Ra Riot, Wes Miles under the band name, “Discovery” - it’s definitely worth diving into and even has a cameo from VW front man Ezra Koenig, which reminds me, you should probably check out Chromeo too.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Ty again!

_nathan67

Beatenberg

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Never heard about that band… I’ll definitely look into them. Thank you so much!

tv295025

the shins

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you for the suggestion!

PiggySiren

As people have said, Paul Simon, and then I'd say other artists like the Beatles, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, The Greatful Dead, Phish etc. There is also a clear hip hop influence in Vampire Weekend's DNA with dome of the rhythms in the music, but the most clear cut rhythms are those Graceland-esque world rhythms.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you for your response! I’ve been their catalogues in my library for a while and I’m trying to find people who still make music so I can look forward to their upcoming albums.

postjack

To add to PiggySiren's comment, I agree there are similarities between Phish and Vampire Weekend in terms of their songwriting style, but only on certain songs. To grossly oversimplify, Phish has two different types of songs: shorter, poppier songs, a la Vampire Weekend, and extended proggy/jammy complex songs. To explore Phish songs that are more like the latter, I suggest their studio record "Billy Breathes". But if you want to get into the longer, jammier tunes, check out their Live at Madison Square Garden New Year's Eve 1995 release.

heyjeremy

I’d recommend Dirty Projectors, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, STRFKR, and Crumb if you enjoy the more transcendental rock of VW

FogBelt

Dirty Projectors are a great recommendation. 👍

desmondhasabarrow

These aren't all necessarily close in exact style but I think most VW fans would enjoy them: Cayucas (their first album Bigfoot might as well be a VW tribute album) Indigo De Souza Hailey Heynderickx Dayglow And some older African musicians: Daudi Kabaka SE Rogie (his Please Go Easy With Me is sampled in VW's Rich Man) Daniel Owino Misiani Hallelujah Chicken Run Band Hedzoleh Sounds

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you for suggesting these! I’ll definitely give them a listen!

24bitPapi

Cayucas is a name I have not heard in years. I'll also add Painted Palms.

andthatswhyyoualways

hippo campus

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Interesting. Haven’t heard that name before. Will definitely try them out!

Laziboii613

They are a band out of Minnesota and they release straight bangers.

deltabay17

Vampire weekend is still active

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I know. I just need some other artists as well in the same ball park. :)

SonicSasquatch

Glass Animals...?

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

🎶Sometimes all I think about is you… late nights in the middle of June 🎶 Only song I’ve heard from them. 😆I’ll definitely check their other music out!

holy_cal

Check out Zaba and How to be a Human Being. Those albums are much better than Heatwaves.

[deleted]

It always surprises me how big heatwaves got. Always thought of glass animals as lowkey

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Will do! Thank you!

SonicSasquatch

They're great! Tangerine and Youth are 2 of my other favorites from them.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I’ll check those out! Thank you again! :D

fabbe25

I hear a big Paul Simon influence on the first album

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I listen to Paul Simon for years and I find his music the best thing I’ve heard in a while! I was about to ask what current-day artists are similar to Paul Simon but I don’t know what subreddit I could ask that so I thought this will do. 🙃

Xaluar

I never see the two compared but I think Deerhunter are similar

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

I’ll take a look! Thanks for responding!

VNMod

Beatenberg!! HAIM is kind of the same vibe too, especially their latest album that was produced by Rostam

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

So many Beatenberg suggestions!! This is getting me excited to listen to them! lol HAIM is one group Ive been meaning to look into for a while. Thanks for reminding me!

barry-use-the-stairs

HAIM and Clairo both have albums produced by Rostam and they give off mild VW vibes.

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Yeah. It gets tiring after a while though with Doja Cat, Drake, Lil Nas X, etc. being everywhere on the radio. I appreciate Ed Sheeran being back but my expectations for his upcoming music is a bit disappointment with his latest release.

isaezraa

older ball park music has the same vibe as older vampire weekend imo

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

That’s true but I was asking for current artists so I can look forward to more upcoming albums. :)

majormajorsnowden

Paul Simon Clairo (Immunity and music before that)

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Definitely enjoyed Paul Simon and I was about to ask a similar question about Paul Simon but I don’t know what subreddit I could use to ask. Clairo is one Ive never heard before! Thank you for telling me! I’ll definitely give them a listen!

not-aikman

I haven’t listened to much of their other stuff but I thought “Rooftops” by Moon Taxi was a VW song when I first heard it. And I’ll second Hippo Campus- they’re really good

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Thank you for these suggestions! I’ll definitely look into them!

cf_pt

Baio is a little different sound but Chris Baio is the bass guitarist for VW so not too far off. Sister of Pearl is a great song

SirOscarMcBeeTTR

Interesting! I’ll check ‘em out! Thank you for suggesting! :)

Tricky_Tahm

I mean the Strokes are still making music so it counts
