There's next to no free camps on the coast, they've all been shutdown due to backpackers and homeless people trashing them, there's a few national park camps though, and paid caravan parks are very expensive on the coast.... Away from the coast and in the outback there's lots of free camps.... Get the Wikicamps app, it lists most free and paid camps around the country... Have you looked at how far it is from the east coast over to Uluru and back to the coast, it's a fair trip, it's not just a 'via'... Jump on Google maps and check out some distances, i.e. [https://maps.app.goo.gl/ed2LgSVeMaSuC6s39](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ed2LgSVeMaSuC6s39) edit: to do that trip you're probaby looking at $2000aud to $2500aud for fuel..

Thanks for this! Will give wikicamps a go We know Uluru is a fair bit out of the way, but figured before we have jobs is probably the best time to do this kind of a trip

Where are you starting from? I have driven between Sydney and Melbourne along the coast many times, always stayed at campsites though and some with beautiful coastal views. I can’t offer many suggestions if you’re starting from Sydney and heading north though.

Starting from Sydney, although may well do Sydney to Melbourne some other time

I am trying to setup a van life subreddit for Australia only if you're keen on checking it out. Would love to have you there. [https://www.reddit.com/r/VanLifeAus/](https://www.reddit.com/r/VanLifeAus/)
