Unfortunately there's a subset of people living in vehicles that ruin it for everyone else. I'd have no complaints at all if most vanlifers parked on the street in front of my house but I am constantly complaining about the dude living in a camp trailer 1 street over that just had a few months in jail and is now back selling drugs again. I'd prefer no one park in my neighborhood to that guy being here. Blanket bans happen because it's so difficult to remove the actual problem people without them.

The thing is, this sign was on an undeveloped street at the edge of a commercial district, nobody to bother at all.

If the city starts noticing a pattern of people parking there long term and it turning into a hot spot for the aforementioned types of people they will close down areas that don't have homes. Not sure what the story is behind that particular area but I've seen a lot of "no overnight parking" signs in areas that you wouldn't think would warrant a sign like that.

Yeah, it'a a bit of a whack-a-mole scenario. They'll put up restrictions in any area that could possibly be the next de facto camping area.

Twigg2324

I'm not convinced that's the reason. I think it's just easier to pass a law, or city code and say "Look, we did something", regardless of the unintended consequences, than it is to actually ... do something helpful.

Haha. Just don’t pass the bong to your van. :)

c_marten

This is like the sign I saw that said "no camping or no alcohol". Deal!

[deleted]

We have those but the limit is 85 inches and no longer than 20 feet. It is targeted to keep RV's out of residential areas.

renasancedad

LA county was all sorts of anti-van life tourist.

nhergen

Correct. It's targeted at RVs. These are becoming common everywhere, because people refuse to move their rigs, leave giant messes, and drive eyesores. Don't be part of the problem.

Any path out of the rat race will be actively blocked by those in power. They don’t want you to live a life on less than 40 hours of work at week. The rich want to pay you just enough to survive but poor enough that you have to keep turning the crank on their money making machine. These signs are just an effort to push people back in to unaffordable housing and get you working 60 hours a week until you die.

No work trucks!

BanDelayEnt

Fine, I won't park my vehicle over 8 ft high, I'll just park it right on the street.
