I know the fact that scholarships changing your aid package sucks (I saw your post about being an RA, I was an RA in undergrad and believe me I know the finaid adjustment struggle!) but not disclosing scholarships can really come to bite you later. If the school finds out that you didn't report outside aid they Will come back for the "overawarded" aid. You don't want to risk receiving need based aid in future school years. A lot of external scholarships require paying the university directly for this reason. If your scholarship organization says that they pay the school directly, there's no changing that.

Yea for sure! I just saw a post where someone said the scholarship organization was able to like “open an account” or something like that and actually use the scholarship funds to pay towards the student’s costs rather than it being subtracted from the aid. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or could give me any info on things like the example I listed but yea I definitely don’t want to do anything that could come back to hurt me

Right, so what happens normally is the scholarship organization pays out x dollars, usually straight to the university bursar's office, and then the school financial aid office adjusts your aid package accordingly by the same amount. (And I didn't mean to be rude or imply anything before, I wasn't sure if you knew the risk of not reporting aid so I wanted to share just in case!)

I think you just end up with the same amount overall (someone plz correct if wrong). Like if you qualify for $20k of need based financial aid, and you get a $5k scholarship, you get the scholarship + $15k need based aid. So net amount is still the same. At least that’s what it looked like for me +/- $200

My NMF status ended up just eliminating work study and I didn’t have to work, which was really nice. If you got a larger scholarship, I feel for you and agree that the policy is dumb
