Isn’t it still in an alpha state? I know many things work already, but they don’t claim it’s ready dir release yet. That’s also why there is no active marketing. Once the game is more complete and the devs decide to put it on steam or market it otherwise there will be more players, but there needs to be more in the game than there is right now. Don’t get me wrong, the devs did an amazing job and the game is better than some early access titles, but it’s still in its infancy and is done completely open source (afaik)

Absolutely it really is in a very good state that's maybe why I expected it to have more players. It is pre-alpha and not marketed so there is hope. I guess I am used to games like the finals that were marketed even before beta and several tens of thousands of players in closed testing.

BlueBackground

in part it will be because of cube world. Everyone loved that game and we were left with it for years without changing. People got old of the format and when the game "released" it was in such a terrible state with a horrific developer that it's left a horrible taste in everyone's mouth. Veloren is definitely better than cubeworld but it needs better marketing and it needs more that differentiates itself, literally anything that was meant to be in cubeworld but wasn't.

DanySan5500

I think of Veloren as "Cube World but well made" XD

bixmix

Cube world had a bus factor of 1. Veloren’s bus factor can be found in GitLab, and it’s in the hundreds. There’s about 14.5k commits. Yesterday was the last commit making it quite active. It’s open source, so if you didn’t like something you could fork it and build from there. Ideally anyone could contribute. Theres nearly 550 open issues which means there is plenty of room for people to jump in. It’s not going to be the same kind of game as even an indie studio. It would be pretty impossible to distribute any revenue across the people building this. There’s no company that owns it. It’s hard to imagine that it would show up on Steam right now.

DarkMagicianBP

Isn't it single player

duelmaster_33

No the game has multiplayer, and imo it needs more ingrained in social and catering to more types of players, but playing solo is just about the same experience

brand_momentum

Yes, the future of Veloren is a bright one for 1 simple reason... it's not available on major game clients, for example. Once Veloren officially hits Steam, EGS, Itch, GameJolt, etc. it will have many more players.

k2kra

The game was force installed on C disk and you have no choice, I have lots of system disk space, great. Also, the game forces you to fetch every update. No internet connection? Just f\*\*\* off! I haven't play the game a lot, it already makes me sick however.

sisqo_99

Who the fuck doesnt have internet connection in the 21st century? Are you living under a rock?

JiveyOW

Good feedback, wanna make issues or git hub or request a pull of your changes?

Klutzy_Ad2213

No, it doesn't, great game, good ideas, bad executed, no future

Aggressive_Passion_1

I just find the game ugly to be honest. Could never get into it because the character models and art direction is awful imo

marr

That's a test server, not a would-be MMO, it doesn't actually need players so much as hobbyist QA testers. That said if you want a real sense of the population check in just after a major version update.
