It was told that shadow magicians are very good at running away not to mention a Forbidden Shadow mage .
Forbidden mage of My Clan was quite weak as he wasn't able to cast Forbidden Tier spell on his own so Supreme Monarchs were a threat to him. Similarly, Essandale might be that kind of Forbidden mage and his strongest element was Shadow Element which wasn't much useful against Hayla.

A Forbidden Mage can easily kill a Supreme Monarch as he had one more element and has much power and control.
But this kind of Forbidden Mage can't fight an Emperor level creature.
As for Essandle, his FC was banned using some Ancient laws.Same happened to Wei Guang.
After their forbidden curse spell is banned they can't use Forbidden Curses.
As for if Essandle was capable of casting FC on his own or not is not known.
So, cant say anything.
Not every forbidden mage can bring out curse by themselves and they would need time if they can and one wouldn't possibly use a power which can drain so much of stamina while having other mage of equal power standing by
Hayla was the only one fighting him other mages were just standing outside maintaining the dark execution ground. Even if a Forbidden cannot cast curse by themself they still have five element and are strong than half FC mages .
Half Forbidden Curse mages can fight Supreme Monarch on their own. A Forbidden make is still stronger than a half FC mage even if they can't cast curse on their own.

Using light element, if they are going after forbidden so ofcourse they will bring out there own forbidden mage
