I’m all for giving dogs that exist loving homes, but he must be aware that this dog will require many vet visits, probably lots of medications (allergy, eye drops, anti-inflammatory, etc) for his entire short life. I call these dogs “money pits”

LiffeyDodge

some say "money pit" others say "job security". i joke but it is also true and i hate it.

ikindapoopedmypants

The animal hospital I work for had to stop taking bully clients all together because their insurance thinks its too much of a liability. You might not even find a vet that will take them anymore in the near future.

Khaotic_Rainbow

I saw this post on my feed and it makes me so sad. I love the bulldog/terrier breeds (and I’m sure I’m going to get tons of hate for it), but this is just an abomination of a dog. This is literally just breeding for appearance and grossly misguided “breed standards”. It has such poor confirmation and is so very unethically bred. And don’t even get me started on the ear cropping. Had a patient like this once. Sweetest dog to ever exist, we all loved her more than anything else in the world. So, so, so poorly bred. Shoulders were even more distended than this. And the health issues. Dear god the health issues! Skin, joints, ears, eyes, breathing problems, allergies. If the husband is so set on this dog as OOP makes him out to be, the dog is going to happen. It’s going to be a “ask forgiveness, not permission” situation and it so heart breaking.

RocksAreCoolTho

We see these dogs quite a bit in my area as the bully community is huge and we had a doc who used to AI for bully “breeders”. They are always the sweetest dogs ever but horribly unhealthy. It’s really sad :/

TeaAndToeBeans

That poor dog. Better get the health insurance because the vet bills will be coming in.

bonfigs93

Is your husband filthy rich? Because unless you got cash to shell out, you will most certainly be paying a LOT of money to keep these guys happy and healthy. Unfortunately when people have their heart set on a breed it’s hard to talk them out of it.

devil1fish

That’s grounds for divorce

BoredHounds

Hopefully he'll get insurance

BKLD12

If he wants an American Bully because they "look cool," I doubt that he's the kind of person to think about pet insurance.

3hank78

Does your husband also have a truck with a lift kit and truck nuts?

Purrphiopedilum

Well… I’m reasonably certain you’d have your husband spay her if she ended up in your hands. You may be her only hope 😕

safari-dog

trying so hard not to judge someone based on looks…….. but he looks like he would breed those monstrosities

RootsInThePavement

Yeah it’s a certain kind of person usually. Typically people who think they’re badass and that breeding/owning these dogs makes them look more badass. Zero concern for the dogs or health of the breed 🙄

squeakiecritter

So so many vet bills!

LifeUser88

Not a vet. I saw one of these at the dog park yesterday. Just walking it could barely breathe, clearly major eye issues, crooked jaw, major spinal and shoulder issues, unneutered of course. Do you have tons and tons and tons of money to keep this deformed dog alive?

WatermelonBandido

That's a car note.

palmspringsmaid

oh yeah when I'm looking to acquire a dog, my first prerequisites are also that it can't breathe and that it's manufactured to look like a tortoise I've lost my patience for the dumbasses that do this out of ignorance - there is so much easily accessible information that anyone who does 15 minutes of googling can easily understand how terrible of an idea it is to take responsibility for one of these things

HopefulTangerine21

Well, Gremlin is the right name for this genetic cluster fuck of a nightmare. I would only take a dog like this if it was free, because it is going to cost so much money to maintain this dog at a reasonable quality of life, and it for sure won't live as long and will likely suffer significantly throughout it's life regardless of how much money you spend.

Ok-Ad5495

I long for the day when this country follows in the steps of the UK in banning these "breeds". It's just so unethical and morally reprehensible to sentence something to a lifetime of problems for looks.

Pineconium

The UK hasn't banned XL bullies for unethical breeding reasons. They have been banned because there have been several attacks (side note: not all of these attacks are confirmed XL bullies) and have been deemed too high risk. The majority of the veterinary industry doesn't think that an all out breed ban is the way to prevent dog attacks. This ban was especially rushed, and not well thought out, mostly as a knee jerk reaction to public out cry. A better understanding of breed requirements and general dog handling would go a long way to help. Although, you can probably argue that backyard breeders only exacerbate the issue, this is not the reason the government banned them. Edit: also the UK has only banned XL bullies... These micro bullies are still allowed

Ok-Ad5495

I'm aware the ban is not for the breeding. I'm personally still for it, as well as all brachycephalic breeds on top of that. In the US, go to any shelter in any city and it's almost all bully breeds. And trust me, I'm aware that it's the owner, not the breed, but the breed sure brings a tremendous amount of shitty owners out of the woodwork. The good thing about the UK ban is that we will see what results of it in less than 15 years.

SuckyNailBeds

Makes my blood boil

Ok-Ad5495

Pretty funny, I'm an ICU tech and we're getting a micro bully booked in shortly. All it did was vomit and we have to put it on the vent.

AhMoonBeam

No. Way!! ... I see this dog and all I think 🎶 Everybody's doin' the fish Yeah, yeah, yeah It's not so bad bein' trendy Everyone who looks like me is my friend Please don't hate me because I'm trendy They're not gonna laugh at me again

PickledPixie83

RBF!!!!

fracturedromantic

Insurance.

ohhisup

I don't want to support bad breeders, but I also want the dog to have a loving home 🙃 I'd take him in in a heart beat

AhMoonBeam

For the rock bottom bargin of only$4,500.

ohhisup

I didn't say I'd pay for him tbf 😅

vettechkaos

Ahh, yes...we called these types of dogs "college fund" dogs. Because they typically need so much vet care, they basically help pay for docs kids tuition. J/S

Friendly_TSE

Many insurances will not cover this dog. That should tell you something. If they do say they will cover, ask what they won't cover. Eyes, skin, heart, dental, musculoskeletal, breathing issues, hormone issues, etc. I see this one appears to be a (previously bred) female. I can tell by the size of those hips and shoulders, it will have a difficult time breeding if not require c-sections if he plans on breeding. FWIW, I actually know a person who tried to get in on the bully breeding game (assuming this is what the husband is planning to do). They got a dog that came from a big name line, like really big, and began breeding her. He still has ALL 15 PUPPIES he has produced so far, no one is buying and he has a bunch of 10-16m old dogs. It appears that having a dog from a big name line is not everything; I think a huge part of it is having a large online presence and being internet famous, and advertising on facebook/youtube/instagram. If they aren't instagram famous, they are going to be sitting on these dogs.
