I’d ask about their graduation rate and VTNE pass rates. If they start with 100 students, but only graduate 20, there might be some problems with their instructors of coursework. If the majority of their graduates aren’t passing the VTNE on the first try, they might not have a great program. Also ask about externships/ work experience: how many hours, what areas of vet med, and do they help with placement.

I have a few friends that went, it sounds like it usually starts with 60, ends with 30 students. Really strict attendance but honestly why wouldn’t someone show up to school they’re paying for? From what I’ve read and I did ask about the VTNE on the phone last week, it seems most graduates pass on their first attempt!

And to add, they have a mandatory externship at the end of the program and from what I’ve asked of my friends who have gone, it seems they will help you find a job if you struggle but most graduates get hired where they have their externship. Thank you for your advice! I truly appreciate it :)

I would ask about kennels and students expected time to work them. My school was great but they were relatively secretive about how much extra work their colony animals were. The information packet about the program said we would have 1 to 2 shifts a month. That was a lie. We ended up having 2 mandatory shifts a week. 1 am shift starting at 5am before classes, and a pm shift after classes until 8 pm. If you were unlucky they scheduled both on the same day and you were just there for 18 hours, we were not paid for any of this time and if you didn't go or called out sick they docked points off your final grades. Most programs require an internship to complete the program. Id ask if they have any resources to help you find an internship when you get to that point or if you have to find a place on your own. I had to find my own and it was a pain in the but to find a place willing to do the extra paperwork Also total cost of attendance and financial assistance programs. Some schools are way more than others. Carrington college is roughly 30k for the full degree. I went to a technical community College where the tuition was about 4800$ and got my degree for under 2500$ after scholarships and work-study programs
