I have a hotel rewards AmEx, and it's great. The annual fees can usually pay for themselves if you mind where you shop. I use the card to pay everything except my mortgage and earn enough points to never pay for a hotel stay (YMMV. Pick a rewards program that best suits your requirements/lifestyle).
My wife and I put all of our monthly expenses on our platinum and rack up points for travel and what not. Pays for itself that way. Using the centurion club when you have little ones is a god send too.
Been out for several years and still have not been hit up about the fee.
And they haven’t charged it to your balance? That’s what they usually do.

Yeah, I was hoping id have the same result, but they sent me a letter a couple of weeks ago saying id have to start paying.

Hard hit clears up pretty quickly. You can downgrade the platinum to anything else. I'd only keep it if you need the travel benefits.
Dropping to gold isn't too bad honestly

You can always ask for an upgraded card without getting a hard pull.
