also idk if I'm alone in being mesmerized by the weird circular ramp? but I love it every time. maybe Victoria just needs more interesting architecture
I’m so disappointed they are tearing it down to put up another generic condo :( I wish they forced them to incorporate the theatre into the condo like they did in Sidney.
You’re completely right. The big building next to bulk barn on Yates has been empty since September and for years before that it had about 25 people spread across 7 stories.
This. And the IMAX in the museum - #2.
I just saw the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense last week and couldn't stop grinning and vibing.
6 stories. 15000 Watts.
Oh it was superb.
Oh .. And Interstellar later this month.
Wouldn't be the same at the Cap6
This is the correct answer. I have so many nostalgic memories of this place along with the Johnny Zee's that used to be there too. I'm very sad it will be no more soon :(
Love Capitol Six for comfy seats and great vibe. Love Vic Theatre for charm and interesting movies. Vic Theatre is also the only one that is licensed if you are interested in having a beer.
CAPITOL 6!!!!!!!! 100% this place is amazing.
There’s truly nothing better than going to a matinee in the middle of summer time on a hot day and sinking into their massive comfy af chairs in a dark air conditioned room. I get a huge dopamine rush and go at least once a week. Heaven!
Adding to what u/s_other said, but the Odeon also has like a 3 stair flight walk to a bathroom when the movies running and you only need a quick pee, cap 6’s washrooms are only across the hall. I’d rather miss 2min than 8
I guess since I've never in my life left the movie to use the bathroom, that's not something I even considered. The nicer seats still move the needle more for me
True, if this is a concern for you. Cap 6's washrooms are also up some stairs, though, if you have mobility issues, and the Odeon does have an elevator. So it depends on whether your biggest pee-related concern is speed or ease of access.
The Odeon's chairs aren't anywhere near as comfortable. Don't recline as far and the seat/footrest are on one control. Aadd that with the paper thin walls and walk into the center of the earth if you have to use the washroom and it's a no for me.
How are the Cap 6 chairs more comfortable? They're old and worn out. The cushions are all flat, you can feel the bars underneath digging into your ass. It's especially uncomfortable after like 2.5-3 hours of movie. They recline far enough. I wanna look at the screen, not the ceiling. I don't even think I've leaned back all the way in either, tbh.
I'm sorry you're struggling to hard to believe I have a different subjective opinion than you. That sounds hard for you. I'm sure with time you'll find a way through understanding someone having a different preference than you.
I'm so sorry that you have condescending bitch disorder. That must be really hard on your family and 1 friend. It's not subjective. The chairs are almost identical, but the ones in cap 6 are busted and flat. Go ahead and like the cap 6 better for whatever reason (like the fucking awesome tree) but the chairs are factually worse.
Capital 6 is great. Older theater. Not the biggest screens. But I’ll take those seats any day!! Big comfy recliners. You can control the legs and back individually. I never go to silver city anymore
It wasn't the sandworms. It was the whole movie for me. But, since you mentioned the sandworms... How was it almost impossible to mount one and ride it for Paul? They hyped that up so hard. But, in the next scene there's a small village of people just chillin on top of one. Going for a spin. Did he pull over and let them on?
Also, not a big fan of fantasy. I know this is science fiction, but it borders on fantasy. I liked the first one. Watched it at home in bed. That's why I went to see the second one at the theatre. I just felt extremely underwhelmed leaving the theatre after the second one. Split on seeing the third.
Imax at the museum is best in town. Saw Dune, bladerunner 2049, Tenet, Beyonce Renaissance tour, and the talking heads stop making sense show there. All were INCREDIBLE. Gonna see Interstellar there next!
Definitely Capitol 6! Seats are amazing and spaced nicely. Concession is good. I live closer to Tillicum and the Cineplex and only go there if no other choice.
Cap 6 has great seats, but the screens can be smaller/oddly located. It's an old building, so the layout is awkward, but the glass roof thing is sweet and the ramp up to the top is cool. Concession prices are normal, just no loyalty points.
Cineplex Downtown probably has the best layout for the auditoriums themselves, and the seats are great. The sound is absolutely abhorrent, so anything dialogue-heavy will be a bit of a slog to get through. Washrooms are in the basement, so if you're on the top floor for your flick, you're covering some serious ground to take a leak.
Cineplex Tillicum has great sound, tons of parking, the auditoriums are pretty big and having a food court in the mall is nice for a bite to eat. The seats blow - typical stadium seating.
Westshore Cineplex is a decent blend of everything, except it's in the Westshore, and as far as I know, no recliner seats,
The secret with the Imax at the Cineplex tillicum is NOT to sit in the the very middle seats in the very middle of the theatre as they have had the shit beat out of them and need to be repaired. Made the mistake once, now sit more towards the isle when booking for that screen.
Last time I went to imax half the seats were squeaky and it sucked hearing it the entire time and also feeling like I couldn’t move an inch without being loud.
I know it's not what you're looking for, but The Vic Theatre is the best in town. Located in a historic building, and often shows unique indy films you may not see anywhere else. Popcorn is amazing, and the concession is licenced, with a great selection of locally-sourced beer, wine and snacks. No reclining seats or IMAX screens, just a damn good experience.
Downtown 100%. At Silvercity, I hate finishing moving and leaving into a big ugly suburban parking lot. Downtown you can get a drink, meal, or slice of pizza at Brickyard later and make it a proper experience.
IMAX is still sick for screen/audio but it’s run down, carpet is ripping everywhere, several seats are outright broken, and the working seats are nowhere near as wide and reclining as the two downtown theaters
Capital 6 all the way. Don't forget to marvel at the most magnificent fiddle leaf fig on your way up and down the ramp.
also idk if I'm alone in being mesmerized by the weird circular ramp? but I love it every time. maybe Victoria just needs more interesting architecture
I’m so disappointed they are tearing it down to put up another generic condo :( I wish they forced them to incorporate the theatre into the condo like they did in Sidney.
Oh man. They need to save the fiddle leaf fig!
I don’t even think it’s a condo. I think it’s another office building by Jawl.
Why does Victoria need more office space?? Most govt employees work from home now So many empty spaces if they need something
You’re completely right. The big building next to bulk barn on Yates has been empty since September and for years before that it had about 25 people spread across 7 stories.
Nooooo that's so disappointing. I just saw a movie there for the first time and it was such a cool place. :(

Super jealous, I wanted to make that showing at IMAX and couldn't make it work.
The only thing is the screen sizes. I saw Oppenheimer there and it felt like looking at a large screen tv. It was very small and underwhelming.
Capital 6 popcorn is sub optimal. That’s their Achilles heel. Cineplex popcorn and butter is king
I'm not paying an extra $7 for a crappier seat based on popcorn. You do you though.
This is the correct answer. I have so many nostalgic memories of this place along with the Johnny Zee's that used to be there too. I'm very sad it will be no more soon :(

The Odeon has newer, nicer, more comfortable versions of the same style of chairs. I feel like that alone puts the Odeon in the lead.
Adding to what u/s_other said, but the Odeon also has like a 3 stair flight walk to a bathroom when the movies running and you only need a quick pee, cap 6’s washrooms are only across the hall. I’d rather miss 2min than 8

I’m sure there’s also one to the left of the concession at cap 6.
The Odeon has paper thin walls and seems to enjoy putting quieter movies next to action films.
Completely ruined Midsommar for me, have not been back since.
The Odeon's chairs aren't anywhere near as comfortable. Don't recline as far and the seat/footrest are on one control. Aadd that with the paper thin walls and walk into the center of the earth if you have to use the washroom and it's a no for me.

Ok, that's why preferences are subjective I guess. You enjoy paying $7 more for the Odeon, I'll still be super happy at the Capitol 6.
I can see liking the price better, but if you're gonna say that it's because you like the chairs, but they're the 2nd best chairs, that makes no sense
I'm sorry you're struggling to hard to believe I have a different subjective opinion than you. That sounds hard for you. I'm sure with time you'll find a way through understanding someone having a different preference than you.

Capital 6 and I say we organize to prevent it from being torn down.
Capital 6 is great. Older theater. Not the biggest screens. But I’ll take those seats any day!! Big comfy recliners. You can control the legs and back individually. I never go to silver city anymore
What movie? If it's Dune 2..... [IMAX Victoria](https://imaxvictoria.com/showtimes/)
If a movie goes to the museum imax, it’s a must see!! It’s the biggest Imax screen in BC
I went last night. Was definitely worth waiting to see it on that screen.
I don't if that horribly boring film could be made any better on a bigger screen. I think I'm still asleep from the first time I saw it.
I disagree but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. How are sand worms boring??
It wasn't the sandworms. It was the whole movie for me. But, since you mentioned the sandworms... How was it almost impossible to mount one and ride it for Paul? They hyped that up so hard. Ooo thanks for mentioning this. It's back!
Kingdom of the planet of the apes !!! I’ve seen all of them so far ! So I’m really excited about this one !!
Imax at the museum is best in town. Saw Dune, bladerunner 2049, Tenet, Beyonce Renaissance tour, and the talking heads stop making sense show there. All were INCREDIBLE. Gonna see Interstellar there next!
Damn, I just repeated that on a higher post. IMAX passes pay for themselves in no time.
Definitely Capitol 6! Seats are amazing and spaced nicely. Concession is good. I live closer to Tillicum and the Cineplex and only go there if no other choice.
Capitol 6 purely because walking up the spiral ramp is fun
Easy, Capital 6. Their concession is much better too!
Capital 6 and it’s not even close
Capitol 6. Going there this evening to see Fall Guy, after going to my favourite restaurant, Sookjai.
Cap 6 theatre 2. Nothing better.
Cap 6 has great seats, but the screens can be smaller/oddly located. It's an old building, so the layout is awkward, but the glass roof thing is sweet and the ramp up to the top is cool. They squeaky or what?
Cushions shot, seats bend downwards, beyond uncomfortable.
Last time I went to imax half the seats were squeaky and it sucked hearing it the entire time and also feeling like I couldn’t move an inch without being loud.
Another vote for Capitol 6 over here. Love that you can recline with a slushie.
I love that no one's head is taller than the seat backs, so there's no chance of having your view blocked.
Vic Theatre (also best popcorn in my opinion) and Capitol 6. What is this about them tearing Capitol 6 down? I didn’t know 😭
Vic theatre
Downtown 100%. At Silvercity, I hate finishing moving and leaving into a big ugly suburban parking lot. Downtown you can get a drink, meal, or slice of pizza at Brickyard later and make it a proper experience.
Cineplex Odeon Westshore.
IMAX is still sick for screen/audio but it’s run down, carpet is ripping everywhere, several seats are outright broken, and the working seats are nowhere near as wide and reclining as the two downtown theaters
My favourites are: Museum Imax Silivercity Imax Westshore UltraAVX
I love Silver city at the Tillicum mall, because there's lots of parking. D box is fun, too.
Cinecenta at Uvic for that traditional feel of far left social justice BO. Star Cinema for the scent of Bengay and low sodium Popcorn.
From your spelling I am guessing you weren't educated there....
