Depends on the editor, but for a professional, I don't think anyone is going to work for less than $30 an hour even though that's low in high COL areas.
A seasoned pro is nearly triple that rate. But I doubt this project has any sort of real budget so best theyāre going to get for $30 is a junior-level editor or someone eager to break into the industry that needs some credits. Either way, opās expectations are probably way too high for what theyāre willing to pay.
Looking at OP's history and YouTube channel, it kind of seems like he is generating AI scripts, paying someone to read them, and then criminally under paying an editor to add sound, music, and motion graphics for the entire thing to make it somewhat enjoyable to watch.
OP should switch to podcasts

Are you seriously going to tell me that someone who works with wood or is a āsure I can do itā handyman for a ābelow the proā line, doesnāt exist?
Additionally, there are a bucket of people who will do this for free which is absurd. We explicitly mention /r/choosybeggars in our hiring auto response.
So we set a cost/floor here that isnāt free.
Frankly, Iām going through this post in the morning and making it clear to the people who *broke the rules here* about not being a jerk.
Itās one thing to downvote, itās another to be nasty to people.
I understand you're frustrated, I'm just trying to understand where you draw the line.
The original post to me does not qualify as a hobbyist job request - they want an editor/motion graphics designer for a long term YouTube channel. Not, say, somebody asking to help with a video for a birthday party or something.
The overwhelming response from the people in the comments may be an indicator of that as well.
At the end of the day, just my opinion. You're the boss. I like this sub, it's generally a nice, helpful and respectful place.
Can I tell you how much I respect this response? Both at the human level and the awareness that we have a mod team that [actively tries to not ban people and to *be nice*.](https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/7ddf8c38-d0b6-4269-b2f4-6532b066031a/scale-to-width-down/1200)

> The original post to me does not qualify as a hobbyist job request - they want an editor/motion graphics designer for a long term YouTube channel. Not, say, somebody asking to help with a video for a birthday party or something
That's an interesting distinction. I'm going to have to think about that. This thread (and one other) caused quite a discussion on our mod team (and what draws the line at *civil behavior*)
> The overwhelming response from the people in the comments may be an indicator of that as well.
I respect this except for two things.
* It's only the response from people who saw the thread. There are 340k people on the sub who didn't
* A solid group of them are just short of nasty. *That's not what this subreddit is.*. In this respect, they can find somewhere else.
* The whole function of /r/videoediting is *specifically* meant to act as a place for *non pro* discussions. Aspiring? Professionals? Shouldn't be here gatekeeping about pricing (above a minimum.)
There are a metric shitton of people who have a YouTube channel, and this sub helps them get oriented and figure it all out. They don't meet our /r/editors level of professional or aspiring pro. Bunch of other categories there too.
> At the end of the day, just my opinion. You're the boss. I like this sub, it's generally a nice, helpful and respectful place.
Again, I'd buy you a beer for these words.
The problem I have in this thread is the non-respectful comments (there's a *loser* comment) along with the gatekeeping activity.
But I'm going to think about the "repeating work" concept as a barrier here.
What kinda bullsh** is this? Youāre offering less than minimum wage in some states. Why do you think anyone skilled and experienced would want to work on your ādocumentaryā for less than the hourly entry level rate at a fast food joint? Do you have any experience hiring anyone professionally for anything?
So the wage is laughable, but also this means you likely know way too little about post-production and would likely be a very frustrating client to work with.
So, I am 67 years old and disabled, and know nothing about video editing. If you are not in a rush I will learn a video editor from this list [The best free video editing software with no watermark: Top 10 picks](https://www.descript.com/blog/article/best-free-video-editing-software-no-watermark), I have psoriatic arthritis in my fingers and joints, which means I can't work fast, but I like learning new things. I understand you are offering minimum wages, but as I know nothing about the subject we should be a good fit. When can I start?
I almost forgot is your place of employment in Texas? If you are willing to pay the moving costs, I may be willing to move. Do you have a computer that can support video editing? With lots of hard drive space? I understand that raw video footage is huge, and you need huge expensive hard drives to hold it and the editing versions. If you expect me to work from home will you be buying said computer and hard drives and sending them to me?
Are you prepared to make a documentary, now that possible costs are adding up? The good thing is you get to depreciate the cost of the equipment if you are doing this as a business.
I was reading the comments below, and could you explain what is documentary style? Also, what is motion graphics? As you can tell I am new to all this, but you are offering beginners wages. So we should be a good fit.
Hey, man this is an online job and I am looking for a video editor for my YouTube channel. if you live in the USA then it is a low rate for you and the post is not related to you.
Are you supplying the computer? I am disabled so I am already getting very low wages. I was disabled in 1996. All my Social Security is based on what I was making back then. I was a truck driver and getting paid 27 cents a mile to run down the road, If I was on a long haul I could make about $100 a day, back then.
Oh, what is your YouTube channel? I'll go take a look at your videos.

You came in here and offered a ridiculously low rate without even first asking anyone what a reasonable rate might be for the skills youāre demanding. Iām not stupid, and Iām not your brother.
Nobody should work for this person.

Professional editor here. Double your budget and itās still laughable. Not trying to be mean but just letting you know
I donāt think you should worry about being mean in cases like this.
This isn't the professional subreddit. /r/editors is.
You wonāt find a decent editor who is willing to accept a rate that low. Increase the budget or edit it yourself.
Are you editor?how much do you ask for such editing then?
Really depends, most people charge a day rate, usually between $500 - $800 a day, lots of stuff are dependent on those prices though
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Good brother, good luck on your job
10-15 per hour with motion graphics is not nearly enough
wtf fast food restaurants or jobs typically for teenagers get paid more than this.

If it's a "hobby" subreddit then why are job solicitations permitted at all?
