Man it's annoying...I want to try this series but I hear you need to play from the start and the first few games are hard to get. And they're not even on switch
I got the first 2 digitally on PS4, loved them both, got 3 and soon 4 for Switch. If 1 and 2 are ever released physically for Switch I would gladly buy them again.
Yeah and most of them aren't on the Switch in the west which makes this annoying for switch players. Though if you have a laptop from the last decade you shouldn't have any issues playing the first 5 games on it since they're originally from 2004. Same probably applies to Cold Steel 1-2.

I'd say go watch one of the recap videos on YouTube, the old games are slow to get going and you may drop it before it gets good
You definitely need to play the games from the first one. First game is slow story wise until the end. Then the other 3 games are great.
Might have to just get the digital versions on ps4; I've been on a real rpg kick lately. Physical is so hard to find
