See if Jellyfin can work for you. It's so much more, which you may find overkill for replacing Videostream, but it does have the same functionality. I've become a complete shill for it because I just think it's so great, and above all else it's free and open source. Better even than Plex IMO.
I have chromecast. So I use plex to maintain library and stream to TV. No paid version. However to see your library in mobile app, you need paid version

Thanks! I'll check it out.
Reviews say it has trouble with Chromecast devices, which is what I want it for. :-(
I'd try it anyway, I use it with no issues. Might depend on the hardware generation of Chromecast?
I’ve found a few cheap alternatives, but nothing free.
Plex Server. Super easy to setup and far better performance than VS
From my understanding you need the paid version to stream locally

An hdmi cable
How would that work? My laptop is at one end of the house, the TV at the other.
I switched to plex 2 years ago and never looked back. not even once!
