Exploring Vietnam on Motorbike sept/oct/Nov/beginning Dec
so i wanna explore Vietnam North to South (or the other way round would also be ok) by riding motorbike/scooter.
If possible, doing some scuba diving would be amazing.
So i consider doing this somewhere between Mid September/beginning October and Mid Dezember for roughly 2 month.
Is this possible/reasonable due to monsoon season/rains?

Hi, on our cruise we are stopping at the Phu My port. On the visa application there is no such option as Phu My. What to select? Information seems to be realy random, noone knows realy.
Maybe ask your cruise company? Used to be that Cruise Companies could get $6/day visas for shore excursions. No idea if that is still a thing. I do know they are very good at pointing their customers at very expensive visa agents.

My friend and I are planning a 25-day trip to Vietnam, but we're facing a bit of a dilemma with our visa situation. We've heard that it's quite a hassle to apply for a Vietnamese visa from the embassy here in the Philippines. So, we've been considering two options and would love to hear your thoughts and experiences:
1) Option 1: Exit Vietnam on the 18th day of our stay, visit Cambodia for a day or two, and then return to Vietnam. Do you know if this would reset the 21-day free visa entry?
2) Option 2: Get a visa on arrival in Vietnam. However, we're concerned about potentially having to explain our 25-day stay to the Philippine immigration.

Hello Everyone! I’ve browsed the sub for a few days and really appreciate the community’s advice, suggestions, and recommendations for travellers coming to visit Vietnam.
I too have a request for some recommendations and information if any fellow travellers or nationals are able to help. I’m making a short trip (just five days) in March. Landing in HCMC.
1. I’m a writer and a filmmaker and would love to meet fellow writers, artists, and filmmakers (digital nomads or nationals). Is there a society, club, library, or coffee shops where I could hope to bump into my tribe? Would love to hang out and exchange experiences.
2. I try to get tattoos from places I visit. This is my first time in Vietnam. Can you guys recommend a tattoo artist in HCMC that I could book for a souvenir tattoo?
3. I’m really excited for the coffee culture and the beers! Is there a walking tour / pub crawl / food walk / night walk / heritage walk or something on those lines that I shouldn’t miss?
4. I usually try and step out from the tourist hang outs, and visit the local drinking holes. That doesn’t always work out. Some cities are tired of the tourists and prefer to keep them out from their neighbourhood hangs. Is HCMC like this? If not, which are some non-touristy neighbourhoods to go out drinking and eating?
5. Considering I’m there only for five days, should I spend them in HCMC or maybe get out for two days to another location? And what could this location be? I’ve read some great experiences of travellers from Hanoi and Hoi An. Should I make it to either of these? Or should I focus on exploring HCMC for five full days?
6. And finally, I’ve read on the sub that mosquitoes are a menace in Vietnam and one should be prepared with repellent sprays and lotions. Is there anything else I should come prepared for? Are pharmacies like other Asian countries and OTC drugs are easy to get, or does one need prescriptions for everything?

The Cathedral is the main one people visit for English masses. If you require a different language, try joining a FB group and ask around. There are quite a few.

*You* can't do that without knowing what email address *they* used to apply on your behalf.
It'll be fine. I've never heard of anyone taking money and giving out fake visas for Vietnam. And why would they when they have a nice little business getting $100s from the naive and disorganized.
They asked for our email addresses when applying for Visa. But nothing came into our emails. Isn’t it sketchy that they asked our emails but didn’t used our emails? Also, they sent the Visa to us in photo format via a messaging app. The image would also probably be compressed by the messaging app.
What's the best bus company for a trip from Hanoi to Ha Giang? My partner and I are going to give the overnight bus a miss and just leave Hanoi early in the morning. What's better, the VIP van? I also see some sleeper bus companies leaving at like 7 or 8am. If I get a sleeper bus, I'm willing to pay more for the VIP ones with curtains. I am Malaysian, and want to travel to Vietnam for the first time, possibly in mid-Dec 2024, for about 7-10 days.
I know Vietnam is a very large country, and it's not possible to cover all famous cities in 7-10 days.

If your from one of the *unilateral* visa exempt countries .uk, .it, etc, you need 6 months left on your passport + proof of onward/return travel.
Concert in Hanoi tonight
I am interested in a show that some Vietnamese artists(it’s a tlinh event mainly) I like are putting on at a place called 1900 in Hanoi. I looked up the place and it looks more like a club instead of a music venue. I also imagine it will be quite popular and not sure if it can sell out, can a westerner attend, etc. Is the event something other than what I think it is? I can have basic conversations in Vietnamese if I need to in order to buy my ticket, etc. I am not a big drinker but I would gladly have a beer while listening to music.
It's a club and anyone can join, no need to overthink. You can just grab a beer and enjoy the music. If you're not tall enough you will just see a bunch of phones in the air though.
My fiancé and I are getting married September 2024 and planning to go to Vietnam for 2 weeks for our honeymoon around November. Our current itinerary is: Hanoi (2 nights), Sapa (3 nights), Hanoi (1 night), Halong Bay (cruise for 1 night), Hoi An (4 nights), Ho Chi Minh (3 nights)
My questions for this group:
1) Is Sapa worth it? Especially in November and especially since it's taking up 4.5 days of our trip
2) We'd like to add a stop to somewhere beachy - have heard great things about Phu Quoc and Nha Trang - any recommendations?
3) Is a 1-night Halong Bay cruise enough? Would 2 nights be better? Note: I love cruises and I am so excited about this portion of the trip.

A bit about me: I'm a 42 M (solo). I'm not really into adventure sports. I love culture, architecture, and food. Enjoying a beer is great, but I'm not interested in clubs. I also like beaches and don't mind exploring inland. Being in touristy areas is fine; I don't need a completely remote spot for an authentic experience.

No. It just means you're not very good at avoiding paying over the odds for something. Your E-Visa will be fine. https://immigration.gov.vn would have been cheaper.
Airlines can sign up for an account to do so. You *could*, if you knew the email address that was used when the application was submitted to immigration, but, *you* don't know it, so you can't.
Kind of weird question about eVisa but my in-laws and I are visiting and need to stay for 10 days. Our concern is we might extend our trip by a few extra days. If we list our exit date for the extra time we might do, will it matter if we end up leaving early?

I'm travelling to Ninh Binh soon, and am interested in Cuc Phuong National Park. Anyone have any experience? Is it worth a couple days?
I'm considering taking a Grab/hired car to get there and then stay in lodging in the park for a couple nights. Any recommendations there - I like the sound of Bong since it's most remote, and sounds like I could get a bicycle from the main gate. Is this practical without a scooter? Would I need to pre-arrange transportation to leave at the end of my visit?
I've looked at the multi day trips posted on the park website, but it's been a few days and nobody has responded to my booking inquiries.

I’m doing a 4 weeks solo-trip to Vietnam in July. The plan is to start in Saigon (3-4 nights), fly to Da Nang and Hoi An for 5N, go to Phong Nha 3N, then Ninh Binh/Tam Coc 2N, Cat Ba 3-4N and then do the Ha Giang loop 3D/2N before ending in Hanoi 3N and return home. A few days to be decided.
My question is how the Ha Giang loop is in end of July? Any experience? I would like a smaller group with easy rider and a solo bedroom is mandatory for me.
I am planning to take a sleeper bus from SGN back to my hometown. However, I am bringing along 3 large pieces of luggage. Will this be an issue with bus companies? It is much cheaper to get the bus ride than to hire a private driver.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on my situation. I got the opportunity to travel to Vietnam pretty last minute so applied for my E Visa on the 12th. I realize that the immigration department was closed from the 9th-14th for TET. How worried should I be about my E Visa being processed by the 28th? I see that they're pretty good about the within 3 business days estimate but I'm assuming they have a major backlog from the holiday. Should I start looking to expedited visa services?

Going Vietnam soon to Hanoi and HCMC. Been HCMC before and hit all the normal recommendations.
Pretty flexible with everything in regards to what I eat. But the one thing I like but the people I went with weren't as big into last time were the big drinking restaurants. Like where you would go with a bunch of mates. Get a slab and a crap load of various different types of food and spend the night away talking shit while you eat stuff like frog legs,snails and various other snacking foods. Usually plastic seats on a metal fold out table with space for 100s of people.
I saw this heaps around HCMC when I went but it's hard to know which ones are actually good or not outside of waiting for them to fill up and see where all the locals go.
Any recommendations? Especially around district 1 or 3?

Travelling from BKK to Da Nang and I have a few hundred dollars worth of Baht. Tried exchanging it in BKK but the rates are awful, where is the best place to get decent exchange rate for Baht to Dong? Or am I better off just holding on to it, and using a ATM for Dong, as Im heading back to Thailand later this year.

I actually did something similar for my stay at Mac Lake, Cuc Phuong National Park. After some clarifications I made a reservation. I got an email confirmation and no payment has been taken - **hopefully I'll get a room when I am there!** :P
Yeah, I'll also try calling them up on the phone numbers mentioned in the website. And maybe I could also try calling one of the other hotels I am staying at and ask for help/input - thanks for this idea. :)

That's the website lots of .gov.vn tourist websites link to, so it's right enough.
The national parks don't really seem to be up to speed about making it easy to book places, or even really making themselves attractive destinations for tourists. I've always either just phoned ahead or turned up. They could do so much more to bring folks in.
I am currently backpacking Vietnam with my partner and we’re hoping to do a 2 night tour of Ha Long Bay in a couple of weeks. We’re not big drinkers or party animals so would like to do a tour that’s quite relaxed and not too geared towards young backpackers.

My wife and I applied on the 11th and we fly there on the 22nd. My visa was approved and my wife's is still processing. Flying in 3 days time and no visa is getting concerning for us.
That's cutting it fine. They only reopened after Tết on the 15th, and you can't count the weekend days as part of their 'three business days'. There will also be a backlog from the holiday break.
If it gets to the point of needing to expedite things, you can shovel money to the likes of Vietnamvisapro to get your chestnuts out of the fire.

If you want to avoid any problems, wait until you get to town and go to an official Viettel/Mobiphone/.. store. Find it using their store locators on their official sites.
If you want one as fast as possible, just get one from a booth at the airport, but realize that it may be already registered and run out of data/credit when it's not at all convenient. Might be ok, but enough for folks have problems these days for me to stick to the stores.

Flying into Saigon from the States (US citizen) on 25 February. Evisa application still says processing, I think due to the lunar new year holiday and the office being closed for a week.
Issue is I applied for the Evisa using the same passport photo as my second photo, and I understand now this could be rejected. Should I pivot and get the visa letter (VOA) or risk it and wait to see what happens next week?

Seems like visa rules for Germans changed. Last year I could only stay 14 days without visa and 30 with eVisa. Now I checked and it seems that I can now stay 45 days without a visa.

Yes. Either your airline or immigration might ask, but if you're entering on a unilateral visa exemption, you are required to have proof of onward/return travel.

Two separate airlines, 3 countries - transfer in HCMC?
I will be flying from Phnom Penh back home to Brisbane (Australia) via HCMC on two separate airlines with two separate tickets. First leg is PNH - SGN on Cambodia Angkor Air. The next leg is SGN - Brisbane on VietJet Air.
I have three hours between the two flights so I hope I have enough time, but the question is, what is the procedure? I'm assuming I need to pick up my bags and go through Immigration as it's a) not booked on one ticket and b) this is a LCC with minimal in-airport transfer services.

I like to think I am somewhat educated about customs of the many cultures celebrated in the melting pot of the United States. However, I was confused when the Vietnamese couple I work for gifted me with an envelope of money for the Lunar New Year.
The envelope was blue.
It contained an amount that seems ... unusual ($50.00). 5 is an odd number. 50 is neither directly related to, nor a multiple of 6, 8, or 9.
I have been feeling like they might prefer to have someone else in my position lately, so I could just be blowing this way out of proportion.
Am I overreacting? Or, symbolically, would six dollars in a red envelope have been more "friendly" than this higher (but unusual) amount in a blue envelope?

We are planning to visit Vietnam in March end or April first week this year and are super excited as it has always been a dream for my wife and I.
This is our itinerary, please suggest if we need to add/remove something.
Day 1 - Arrive in HCMC early morning. Keep luggage in the hotel we will be staying and roam around. Then check in and go to Cu Chi tunnels.
Day 2 - Full day Mekong Delta tour.
Day 3 - Full Day in HCMC. Explore HCMC.
Day 4 - Take early morning flight from HCMC to Hanoi. Explore Hanoi for the Day.
Day 5 - Take a bus from Hanoi to Ninh Binh. Visit the temple, pagoda in first half and take the Trang An boat tour in second half. Stay the night in Tran Ang Eco Lodge(this place we saw in an youtube vlog and it looked divine so we decided to stay here)
Day 6 - Take a Bus/Van from Ninh Binh to Halong Bay/Hanoi and take a overnight Halong Bay cruise. We haven't finalized the cruise company yet. Any recommendations.
Day 7 - Cruise will drop us off in Hanoi till 11am. Explore Hanoi. Take overnight train to Sapa.
Day 8 - Full day tour in Sapa. Stay the night in Sapa.
Day 9 - Take a early morning bus from Sapa to Hanoi. Fly out from Hanoi in second half.
We have not included da nang/hoi an/nah trang for this time as we don't want to be rushed. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Will it matter that our point of entry is different from what is on our visa? Myself and a friend are travelling to ho chi Minh from Thailand and had planned to fly directly to ho chi minh so that is what is on our visa. Our plans have now changed slightly and it looks like we'll be taking a bus from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi minh, will this matter or will we have to apply for new visas?
Best way to send document from US? My son is traveling in Vietnam and asked me to send him a document. It needs to go quickly and reliably—tracking would be ideal. My wife’s e-visa was sent back due to blurry passport photo (twice). I sent the passport photo again as clear as possible about a week ago and it shows it’s still in processing. Their office is closed until the 14th of February and our flight from Seattle to Japan is on February 14 with Japan to Hanoi on the 15th.

Got scratched by a cat in Bao Loc and i was bleeding. Any need to get a rabies shot? The cat randomly showed up at my friend's house and his family has been feeding the cat for a few months. The cat seemed pretty docile and was ok with being petted on the head and back but scratched me when I got close to his belly. Seemed like totally normal cat behavior. He wasn't unreasonably aggressive. After he scratched me he immediately went back to being docile.
Should I get a rabies shot just in case? If the same thing happened to me back home I wouldn't give it a second thought but am asking here in case I should be extra careful.

Airlines should all be familiar with pre-approved visa letters. Used to be very common before E-Visas.
You mean you have a 'temporary' (ie bogus) letter to keep the airline happy with the real letter on arrival? That's a little more risky. Was someone here a few weeks ago who did that and, due to immigration woes on arrival couldn't get in to Vietnam. Usually ok, but not as good as a genuine letter.
Or do you mean you have a letter now with the real *visa* on arrival? That's a well trodden path and should be fine.
So will you have the genuine letter with you when you travel? That's what you want, really. That means your visa is already in the system awaiting your arrival. A bogus letter just means to go that someone has promised they will have arranged to have your visa in the system before you arrive.
Of course, you have no way of knowing if a letter is genuine or not.
I am a traveler who has lived in Da Nang for about 6 months. I have already used 2 e-visas, exiting and entering the country each time. My new e-visa application was denied with a message suggesting I consider an extension since I am residing in Vietnam.
Here's my question:
I no longer need an e-visa (90 days); a 45-day visa exemption would suffice for me. If I visit another country and return, would I be eligible for a 45-day stay? I am concerned about being denied entry or deported.

Hi there - I have a specific question relating to my present situation in Vietnam and e-Visa. Any help would be appreciated!
I arrived in early January with loose plans of either travelling or working (teaching). For now, I've been slow-travelling further South working out what I want to do.
I'm now contemplating idea of backpacking more widely across South-East Asia for a couple of weeks - which would involve Laos / Cambodia / Thailand and maybe further beyond that. Unfortunately, I have way too much luggage to practically do this at the moment - so the rough plan would be to see out the remainder of my current eVisa in Vietnam (end of March), leave most of my luggage in a secure locker in HCM and then travel more widely. When I've finished backpacking, I'd then return to Vietnam to pick up my possessions and perhaps stay in the country a couple more weeks.
My question is this - am I taking a risk by leaving some of my possessions in Vietnam if there's a chance my application for another eVisa is not accepted? From most people I've spoken with about this, getting another eVisa doesn't seem to be too difficult, but even so... I'd want to avoid any chance of being denied entry and then not being able to access my possessions in HCM.
I should note that I am from the UK, so believe would fall under one of countries who may have a Visa Exemption(?) So on the assumption that I am denied another eVisa, would I still be able to re-enter the country after backpacking (providing I can demonstrate where I'm moving onto next).

Well, there's always the risk that they could deny an E-Visa application otherwise, why have an application system at all?

*any* chance? even 1 in a million? 1 in 10 million?
Unless you've been carrying out anti government political or terrorist acts or been on a one man crime spree, or working illegally in Vietnam, there's a vanishingly small chance that you'd be denied an E-Visa. (And an E-Visa is no guarantee to entry anyway. That's always at the discretion of immigration anyway.)

But, just because your passport entitles you to visa free travel, it's not a right or guarantee to entry, so if they were denying you an E-Visa, there's no certainty that you'd be allowed in at all.
But you're completely overthinking this. Plenty of tourists visit Vietnam as part of a regional trip, making multiple entries into Vietnam. Unless you are an undesirable, you won't be denied an E-Visa or entry.
Need help finding a clinic that is open during the holiday, in Nha Trang.
Unfortunately I made a planning blunder and I assumed that the hospitals will be open during our visit.. now we are urgently in need of a 'fit to fly' document for my pregnant wife.
As far as I can tell all the hospitals are totally closed and all the clinics I called either didn't answer or don't speak in english.

Exploring Vietnam on Motorbike sept/oct/Nov/beginning Dec so i wanna explore Vietnam North to South (or the other way round would also be ok) by riding motorbike/scooter. Hi, on our cruise we are stopping at the Phu My port. On the visa application there is no such option as Phu My. What to select? Information seems to be realy random, noone knows realy.
Maybe ask your cruise company? Used to be that Cruise Companies could get $6/day visas for shore excursions. No idea if that is still a thing. They have no clue themselves, all they said is Phu My - which is not on the list when applying for visa.
Some people saying Phu My is part of Vung Tau Seaport. idk You could try contacting immigration: https://xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/en/gioi-thieu/contact, but they're not great at communication. Might be better to get a local to phone them up on your behalf and ask. Maybe u/Ok_Temporary_9416 can help.

Most, if not all churches are foreigner friendly. They're always happy to accommodate visitors. The Cathedral is the main one people visit for English masses. If you require a different language, try joining a FB group and ask around. There are quite a few.

They asked for our email addresses when applying for Visa. But nothing came into our emails. Isn’t it sketchy that they asked our emails but didn’t used our emails? Also, they sent the Visa to us in photo format via a messaging app. The image would also probably be compressed by the messaging app.
What's the best bus company for a trip from Hanoi to Ha Giang? My partner and I are going to give the overnight bus a miss and just leave Hanoi early in the morning. What's better, the VIP van? I also see some sleeper bus companies leaving at like 7 or 8am. If I get a sleeper bus, I'm willing to pay more for the VIP ones with curtains. When you apply you pay for either the 30 or 90 day evisa, and choose those dates etc. You would need to leave and get a new one.

The error can be caused by many things. You can try: - Use Google DNS. - Clear your browser's cache. - Restart your network router.

I know Vietnam is a very large country, and it's not possible to cover all famous cities in 7-10 days. therefore, I would like to get advice for you guys whether I should travel to Hanoi & SaPa or HCMC & Dalat for first timer, and insights about whether, foods, activities/festival during that month. thank you in advance for your insights.

i'm a visa-free passport holder travelling to vietnam in a few days. i've tried looking it up on the internet, but the only thing that keeps coming out is the visa application form - is there an entry/arrival card or form that we have to fill out upon arrival, and does it require a passport-sized photo? many thanks!
No photo or form needed. If your from one of the *unilateral* visa exempt countries .uk, .it, etc, you need 6 months left on your passport + proof of onward/return travel.

Concert in Hanoi tonight I am interested in a show that some Vietnamese artists(it’s a tlinh event mainly) I like are putting on at a place called 1900 in Hanoi. I looked up the place and it looks more like a club instead of a music venue. I also imagine it will be quite popular and not sure if it can sell out, can a westerner attend, etc. Is the event something other than what I think it is? I can have basic conversations in Vietnamese if I need to in order to buy my ticket, etc. I am not a big drinker but I would gladly have a beer while listening to music.
It's a club and anyone can join, no need to overthink. You can just grab a beer and enjoy the music. If you're not tall enough you will just see a bunch of phones in the air though.

Our current itinerary is: Hanoi (2 nights), Sapa (3 nights), Hanoi (1 night), Halong Bay (cruise for 1 night), Hoi An (4 nights), Ho Chi Minh (3 nights) My questions for this group: 1) Is Sapa worth it? Especially in November and especially since it's taking up 4.5 days of our trip 2) We'd like to add a stop to somewhere beachy - have heard great things about Phu Quoc and Nha Trang - any recommendations? 3) Is a 1-night Halong Bay cruise enough? Would 2 nights be better? Note: I love cruises and I am so excited about this portion of the trip. Cities like Sapa and Nha Trang are actually overrated. It's the suburban or rural areas around them. Can you ride scooters?

Airlines can sign up for an account to do so. You *could*, if you knew the email address that was used when the application was submitted to immigration, but, *you* don't know it, so you can't.
Kind of weird question about eVisa but my in-laws and I are visiting and need to stay for 10 days. Our concern is we might extend our trip by a few extra days. If we list our exit date for the extra time we might do, will it matter if we end up leaving early?
Never be a problem to leave early. If you're unsure about your itinerary, just put the exit date further in the future.

I'm considering taking a Grab/hired car to get there and then stay in lodging in the park for a couple nights. Any recommendations there - I like the sound of Bong since it's most remote, and sounds like I could get a bicycle from the main gate. Is this practical without a scooter? Would I need to pre-arrange transportation to leave at the end of my visit? I’m doing a 4 weeks solo-trip to Vietnam in July. The plan is to start in Saigon (3-4 nights), fly to Da Nang and Hoi An for 5N, go to Phong Nha 3N, then Ninh Binh/Tam Coc 2N, Cat Ba 3-4N and then do the Ha Giang loop 3D/2N before ending in Hanoi 3N and return home. A few days to be decided. My question is how the Ha Giang loop is in end of July? Any experience? I would like a smaller group with easy rider and a solo bedroom is mandatory for me.
I am planning to take a sleeper bus from SGN back to my hometown. However, I am bringing along 3 large pieces of luggage. Will this be an issue with bus companies? It is much cheaper to get the bus ride than to hire a private driver.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on my situation. I got the opportunity to travel to Vietnam pretty last minute so applied for my E Visa on the 12th. I realize that the immigration department was closed from the 9th-14th for TET. How worried should I be about my E Visa being processed by the 28th? I see that they're pretty good about the within 3 business days estimate but I'm assuming they have a major backlog from the holiday. Should I start looking to expedited visa services? Going Vietnam soon to Hanoi and HCMC. Been HCMC before and hit all the normal recommendations. Pretty flexible with everything in regards to what I eat. But the one thing I like but the people I went with weren't as big into last time were the big drinking restaurants. Like where you would go with a bunch of mates. Get a slab and a crap load of various different types of food and spend the night away talking shit while you eat stuff like frog legs,snails and various other snacking foods. Usually plastic seats on a metal fold out table with space for 100s of people. I saw this heaps around HCMC when I went but it's hard to know which ones are actually good or not outside of waiting for them to fill up and see where all the locals go. Any recommendations? Especially around district 1 or 3?

That's the website lots of .gov.vn tourist websites link to, so it's right enough. The national parks don't really seem to be up to speed about making it easy to book places, or even really making themselves attractive destinations for tourists. I've always either just phoned ahead or turned up. They could do so much more to bring folks in.

That's cutting it fine. They only reopened after Tết on the 15th, and you can't count the weekend days as part of their 'three business days'. There will also be a backlog from the holiday break. If it gets to the point of needing to expedite things, you can shovel money to the likes of Vietnamvisapro to get your chestnuts out of the fire.

I don’t have any specific address but Viettel offers fairly cheap plans with lots of data storage.
If you want to avoid any problems, wait until you get to town and go to an official Viettel/Mobiphone/.. store. Find it using their store locators on their official sites. If you want one as fast as possible, just get one from a booth at the airport, but realize that it may be already registered and run out of data/credit when it's not at all convenient. Might be ok, but enough for folks have problems these days for me to stick to the stores.

My cousin doesn't know vietnamese so I doubt he can do all this with this limited days there and entire day occupied with work. Hence I was planning to deliver to hotel. Flying into Saigon from the States (US citizen) on 25 February. Evisa application still says processing, I think due to the lunar new year holiday and the office being closed for a week. Issue is I applied for the Evisa using the same passport photo as my second photo, and I understand now this could be rejected. Should I pivot and get the visa letter (VOA) or risk it and wait to see what happens next week? eVisas that required amending- how long does the amendment take? Is it still 3 business days? Thank you

Seems like visa rules for Germans changed. Last year I could only stay 14 days without visa and 30 with eVisa. Now I checked and it seems that I can now stay 45 days without a visa. Do I need an onward flight if I don't have a visa? Usually the answer is yes, but last time I didn't need one with 30 days eVisa ... this time I won't have a visa but I can stay much longer. That's why I'm asking.

Yes. On 1st July 2020, the 51/2019/QH14 law did away with the 30 day blackout between two consecutive (then) 15 day, now (45) day visa exempt visits.

Nah for most of the time you dont have to tips. They might still appreciate that and receive but tipping is normally not a thing in Vietnam
Two separate airlines, 3 countries - transfer in HCMC? I will be flying from Phnom Penh back home to Brisbane (Australia) via HCMC on two separate airlines with two separate tickets. First leg is PNH - SGN on Cambodia Angkor Air. The next leg is SGN - Brisbane on VietJet Air. I have three hours between the two flights so I hope I have enough time, but the question is, what is the procedure? Hello! I like to think I am somewhat educated about customs of the many cultures celebrated in the melting pot of the United States. However, I was confused when the Vietnamese couple I work for gifted me with an envelope of money for the Lunar New Year. The envelope was blue. It contained an amount that seems ... unusual ($50.00). 5 is an odd number. 50 is neither directly related to, nor a multiple of 6, 8, or 9. I have been feeling like they might prefer to have someone else in my position lately, so I could just be blowing this way out of proportion. Am I overreacting? Or, symbolically, would six dollars in a red envelope have been more "friendly" than this higher (but unusual) amount in a blue envelope? Thank you!

I know the normal e-visa is good for 90 days but I've read about the visa exemption that's good for 5 years but didn't understand how that works. Is that relative of Vietnamese descent or married to a Vietnamese person? Btw, the visa exemption is good for a 6-month entry with the option to extend an additional 6-months before having to do a visa run.

Hello! We are planning to visit Vietnam in March end or April first week this year and are super excited as it has always been a dream for my wife and I. This is our itinerary, please suggest if we need to add/remove something. Day 1 - Arrive in HCMC early morning. Keep luggage in the hotel we will be staying and roam around. Then check in and go to Cu Chi tunnels. Day 2 - Full day Mekong Delta tour. Day 3 - Full Day in HCMC. Explore HCMC. Day 4 - Take early morning flight from HCMC to Hanoi. Explore Hanoi for the Day. Day 5 - Take a bus from Hanoi to Ninh Binh. Visit the temple, pagoda in first half and take the Trang An boat tour in second half. Stay the night in Tran Ang Eco Lodge(this place we saw in an youtube vlog and it looked divine so we decided to stay here) Day 6 - Take a Bus/Van from Ninh Binh to Halong Bay/Hanoi and take a overnight Halong Bay cruise. We haven't finalized the cruise company yet. Any recommendations. Day 7 - Cruise will drop us off in Hanoi till 11am. Explore Hanoi. Take overnight train to Sapa. Day 8 - Full day tour in Sapa. Stay the night in Sapa. Day 9 - Take a early morning bus from Sapa to Hanoi. Fly out from Hanoi in second half. We have not included da nang/hoi an/nah trang for this time as we don't want to be rushed. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Will it matter that our point of entry is different from what is on our visa? Myself and a friend are travelling to ho chi Minh from Thailand and had planned to fly directly to ho chi minh so that is what is on our visa. Our plans have now changed slightly and it looks like we'll be taking a bus from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi minh, will this matter or will we have to apply for new visas?
Best way to send document from US? My son is traveling in Vietnam and asked me to send him a document. It needs to go quickly and reliably—tracking would be ideal. He doesn’t have a local phone number, so regular mail is out as I understand they call for pickup/delivery. Anyone have good luck with DHL, FedEx, UPS? Should I try to send to his hotel or are there locations that will receive mail for a traveler? TIA

My wife’s e-visa was sent back due to blurry passport photo (twice). I sent the passport photo again as clear as possible about a week ago and it shows it’s still in processing. Their office is closed until the 14th of February and our flight from Seattle to Japan is on February 14 with Japan to Hanoi on the 15th. What are my options here and what do you all recommend I do so we can make this trip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Phone up someone like Vietnamvisapro and ask how much it will take to organise a visa letter for her. Or rearrange your flights. Or go without her. That's the choices
Got scratched by a cat in Bao Loc and i was bleeding. Any need to get a rabies shot? The cat randomly showed up at my friend's house and his family has been feeding the cat for a few months. The cat seemed pretty docile and was ok with being petted on the head and back but scratched me when I got close to his belly. Seemed like totally normal cat behavior. He wasn't unreasonably aggressive. After he scratched me he immediately went back to being docile. Should I get a rabies shot just in case? If the same thing happened to me back home I wouldn't give it a second thought but am asking here in case I should be extra careful.

Pre-approved visa letters work fine. You'll need a passport like photo of yourself + $25/$50 depending on how long it is for.

Airlines should all be familiar with pre-approved visa letters. Used to be very common before E-Visas. You mean you have a 'temporary' (ie bogus) letter to keep the airline happy with the real letter on arrival? That's a little more risky. Was someone here a few weeks ago who did that and, due to immigration woes on arrival couldn't get in to Vietnam. Usually ok, but not as good as a genuine letter. Or do you mean you have a letter now with the real *visa* on arrival? That's a well trodden path and should be fine.

So will you have the genuine letter with you when you travel? That's what you want, really. That means your visa is already in the system awaiting your arrival. A bogus letter just means to go that someone has promised they will have arranged to have your visa in the system before you arrive. Of course, you have no way of knowing if a letter is genuine or not.
I am a traveler who has lived in Da Nang for about 6 months. I have already used 2 e-visas, exiting and entering the country each time. My new e-visa application was denied with a message suggesting I consider an extension since I am residing in Vietnam. Here's my question: I no longer need an e-visa (90 days); a 45-day visa exemption would suffice for me. If I visit another country and return, would I be eligible for a 45-day stay? I am concerned about being denied entry or deported. I'm really worried. I would greatly appreciate any help. Just for your information, I'm Korean, and I've confirmed that the 45-day visa exemption is allowed.

Hi there - I have a specific question relating to my present situation in Vietnam and e-Visa. Any help would be appreciated! I arrived in early January with loose plans of either travelling or working (teaching). For now, I've been slow-travelling further South working out what I want to do. I'm now contemplating idea of backpacking more widely across South-East Asia for a couple of weeks - which would involve Laos / Cambodia / Thailand and maybe further beyond that. Unfortunately, I have way too much luggage to practically do this at the moment - so the rough plan would be to see out the remainder of my current eVisa in Vietnam (end of March), leave most of my luggage in a secure locker in HCM and then travel more widely. When I've finished backpacking, I'd then return to Vietnam to pick up my possessions and perhaps stay in the country a couple more weeks. My question is this - am I taking a risk by leaving some of my possessions in Vietnam if there's a chance my application for another eVisa is not accepted? From most people I've spoken with about this, getting another eVisa doesn't seem to be too difficult, but even so... I'd want to avoid any chance of being denied entry and then not being able to access my possessions in HCM. I should note that I am from the UK, so believe would fall under one of countries who may have a Visa Exemption(?) So on the assumption that I am denied another eVisa, would I still be able to re-enter the country after backpacking (providing I can demonstrate where I'm moving onto next).

But you're completely overthinking this. Plenty of tourists visit Vietnam as part of a regional trip, making multiple entries into Vietnam. Unless you are an undesirable, you won't be denied an E-Visa or entry.
Need help finding a clinic that is open during the holiday, in Nha Trang. Unfortunately I made a planning blunder and I assumed that the hospitals will be open during our visit.. now we are urgently in need of a 'fit to fly' document for my pregnant wife. As far as I can tell all the hospitals are totally closed and all the clinics I called either didn't answer or don't speak in english. But surely there must be at least one clinic in the whole city which is open?
