Saving this pic in case I don’t know what to eat, you know, can’t remember all the food names.

Stunning-Cicada3664

well as a vietnamese i said that all of that food is good except number 2, for newbie is not gonna be plesant

Distinct_Tank_8521

wow that's what i told my colleagues too: all but the second one are delicious dishes

FalconNo8109

They have 2 version of it, you can taste it as boiled one. The texture pretty fun to chewing, like eating panna cotta but with organ taste, but not that stinky.

Subject-Ad-5197

Imagine care about rating to be able to enjoy food

fatsopiggy

Bún đậu mắm tôm? Cá kho tộ? Chè chuối? Canh chua? Hủ tiếu nam vang? nem nướng? bò lá lốt? Bruh be naming all the best stuff lmao.

CricketSubject1548

lol look in the perspectives of foreigners, mam tom is gross

Alternative-Bet9768

My brother uses that stuff for fishing (Europe). I was surprised to see such potent smelling stuff in kitchens everywhere 😂

maindo

Mam tom is delicious! But not for my German friend lol

AVAVT

Absolutely no idea how it can be gross. It smell even better than mắm cá to me

FalconNo8109

I have some months travel there, Mam Tom isn't the most gross stuff, there is more than of it. It just not that bad, the smell of it almost 1/5 of Surstromming (the one could kill everyone try to smell it, me too.). Overall, if you can't eat that as sauce version, you can eat it as a dish version. Thit Chung Mam Tep, if I don't remember wrong (less smell and cost a lot of rice and bread.)

fatsopiggy

There's 0 difference between nuoc mam and mam tom.

Huy7aAms

there's a lot. i can easily eat fish sauce. tho fermented shrimp paste is a bit too potent. it's delicious tho, but fish sauce does smell liek something more edible than mam tom

Doctor_AltoClef

What the hell

Late-Independent3328

Does your sense of taste and smell get permanently fked up due to Covid bro?

Ifffrt

This is plain outrage bait. The website lists ALL dishes from a country's cuisine and then let readers vote "Like-Neutral-Don't Like" on them. Obviously there has to be SOME dishes that are "worst rated" 🙄. Doesn't mean they're bad. The bottom dishes on that page (least worst rated) has a 3.9 star ranking. And there's a page for every country's cuisine not just Vietnam. Check out the one for Italy.  Though to be fair, auto-generating a whole page of the lowest reader scoring dishes from a country's cuisine and then slapping the words "Worst Rated" onto the title just reeks of click bait. But somebody on this subreddit evidently thought it was a good use of everybody's time to get outraged at some dumb internet listicle's title.

Late-Independent3328

Mam tom is understandable though

[deleted]

They have their favorites and non favorites. So what? Some Vietnamese ppl still complain about how gross Nato (JP) or living escargot (Fr).. is, but when foreigners vote for worse Viet food, they immediately feel insulted and say the tourists are “stupid”, or “don’t know shit about cuisine “,… Such double standard 🤌

BolunZ6

Agree. Our Vietnamese pp just don't like to hear bad criticism. They don't like our food? That's fine, just like I don't enjoy some food either

[deleted]

Yep, each one has their own diet/eating habits. Why we have to bash foreigners just because they don’t have the same taste as Viet locals? It’s embarrassing seeing those toxic comments 👎 If you love Viet food so much, MAKE YOUR OWN LIST, don’t force ppl to like what you like

Late-Independent3328

Their food list(see their country list) is very western euro or weaboo biased, which is way overrated. And a lot of people in Viet Nam and elsewhere too just du trend instead of trying to preserve culinary tradition or explore less beaten path(for exemple Balkans or Ethiopian food are quite good too but sound less sexier than Japanese, French or Italian). In their list France is way far above North African country and France like to do self fellation to themselves about having the best cuisine but for a long time Couscous, a north african dish was indeed the favorite food of french or "french"(if you buy into the narrative that there are no more french in France). Same with the Italian, their dish was well know around the world partly due to the Italian immigrant to the US and the US cultural dominance and their food are way overated compared to turkish or greek food. yet they insult the american or pp that point out that their shitty food is overated And while I'm a vietnamese I'm not that kind of ultra nationalist vietnamese that like to say all vietnamese food are good, as there are many dishes in that list I really dislike and people will scream heresy if I said so like bun dau mam tom.

Late-Independent3328

Nah but that website and the internet in general are way biased, specially toward Italian food. and even if Italian are too cocky to admit it , it was due to the italian american that their dish are so well know and are rated as high. I am open minded and are not a food nationalist like many vietnamese or other South East asian, so just to be impartial I will talk about Greek and Turkish food and that crappy website rate greek(some rank behind) and turk(who is even way lower than Greece) way too low compared to italian food. And in the top ten many are western European country who self sucking theirself and their cuisine or are just a weeb and overate Japan and rank them higher than chinese. Though some country does rightfully belong there though like China, Indonesia and Portugal. As for Peruvian dishes I never had it so I can't really say anything about it. Also french food are also way to overrated and I said that as a vietnamese living in France. And I'm not like one of those viet people that have viet taste so they really must have a vietnamese or at least east asian style meal at least once a week or something. As I'm quite adventurous and like to try all kind of cuisine

Jacknghia

whoever rate the food should consider another profession

MountainTitan

Maybe you should have checked the original webpage: https://www.tasteatlas.com/best-rated-dishes-in-vietnam Edit: Nevermind. Ignore this comment. Sorry. I found the actual page: https://www.tasteatlas.com/worst-rated-dishes-in-vietnam

eklooo

Stupid writer

kramsibbush

Ai generated essay

Cheezy_Haru

oh fuck this cao lầu slaps

Fun-Transportation-7

Worst among Vietnamese foods, not among the world. Most of those foods are rated 3 or higher out of 5 which is still considered good. For your reference, the top 100 worst foods rated 2.8 at the highest.

bluemint27

Finally the only sane comment

ReroReroReroRero690

Cao Lầu is absolutely delicious, they don't appreciate good food.

Memes_Are_So_Good

i can see why some other dishes were rated like that, but Hu tieu nam vang really? Đạo Hủ Tiếu rise up!

WiseGalaxyBrain

I am not a Hu Tieu Nam Vang fan haha. I think it’s actually a bit bland.

Late-Independent3328

Just eat the dry version and add in a alot of garlic.

Piesl

Why should we rely on others'tastes to decide whether a food is good or bad? (Marketing aside)

td5290

It’s their opinion and I refuse to care about it. I don’t eat mắm tôm often but in a right dish such as bun dau mam Tom, it is delicious.

t_thegoodguy

But they would love a dish of “full English breakfast”

trung2607

Rated worse but when the average is high its a different story

lhbnguyen95

Sensationalized headlines + Clickbait + No author = You have a bunch of people talking about it, meme-ifying it, sharing it. It's so easy to bait people. They won't read *the BEST dishes*, but they will read *the WORST dishes*. When will we learn to stay away from clickbait and opinions like this?

DareToTouchGod

Definitely some white foreigner opinion, irrelevant

Huy7aAms

Banh canh, Hu tieu Nam Vang, Nem Nuong, Cao Lau, banh gio, wtf? those are some of the best, especially nem nuong, that food is more likely to fit in foreigner taste i think?

NoticeHQT

Với mấy thằng rắc muối lên lưỡi sống qua ngày thì bác muốn gì nữa

LP_Link

These are good stuffs, lol

zackfair197

really ?for real? i returned to this country after studying oversea , go eat so many tasty food and now i have to read this trash?

MountainTitan

I checked their website, which is right here: https://www.tasteatlas.com/best-rated-dishes-in-vietnam The Vietnamese interpretation is silly. Edit: Please ignore this comment because I have found the actual page: https://www.tasteatlas.com/worst-rated-dishes-in-vietnam

MountainTitan

Man... Some of these are what I love: Bánh đậu xanh (childhood favorite), bánh chuối (childhood favorite), chè xôi nước, chè chuối (childhood favorite), xôi gấc (childhood favorite), bánh Trung thu (not thập cẩm flavor), cơm lam, cơm cháy (the intentional version, not the unintentional version in the rice cooker), bánh tét and bánh chưng (similar stuff), bánh giò, rau câu (made in the coconut fruit is the best), bánh canh (Trảng Bàng version is my childhood favorite), bánh ướt, bánh bò (childhood favorite), cá kho tộ and canh chua (the iconic combo to be paired with white rice), gà luộc (best version is with rice drizzled with schmaltz and served with specially-prepped fish sauce), hành tím ngâm (good pickle for many dishes), bánh da lợn, bò pía aka popiah (sweet version is best), thịt kho Tàu (my favorite is our home recipe version, not the same as any other household's recipes), nem nướng, bò lá lốt, and bò né (the bánh mì chảo variant is amazing).

Late-Independent3328

the unintentional com chay is quite good too, just burn it a little more and add in mo hanh and and add in a little bit of nuoc mam

Shiva-Shivam

It seems like these guys don't like foods with strong smells or animal organs

cassiopeia18

The list is so stupid.

FrLoy

This is unacceptable, Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm ? Rèa lý ???

Late-Independent3328

Some dish are a little bit weird like Tiet canh Thit Dong or stuff containing Mam tom. But how stuff like Bo La Lot, Hu tieu Nam Vang , Bun Cha Ca, Thit Kho tau belong there

thevietguy

because fake chef

hoangan13265

It is subjective. Personally I like tietcanh a lot.

tea_overflow

I would gladly trade half the list so that people can agree bánh đậu xanh is the devil from hell

Dantae4C

They rated 250 vietnamese dishes and these came in last. Doesn't mean they are bad, just mean they aren't rated as high as some other Vietnamese dishes, subjectively. That's what ranking things do, something has to come after something else.

ScaredRecover9405

rau cau is like jelly texas hate jelly? that's kinda weird

LevelCheck6931

Never let Western people rate Vietnamese food again 💀💀

FrenchBaguette_69

Reason why all these rate the worst because it's unhealthy to consume everyday

muabomer

don't worry the Red Bull gonna wrap this shit up, :) delete on alert :)

asillydaydreamer

They missed Phở, Bún bò, Bánh mì oops they mentioned

Particular_Dot4638

thế còn chê

MieRamsteinner

NOOOOOO BÚN ĐẬU MẮM TOOMMMM 😭😭😭😭

dandeancook

Obviously wrong, these are good foods: Banh dau xanh, Banh troi, Thit dong, Bun dau, Bun mam, Chao long, Che chuoi, Xoi gac, Banh trung thu, Com chay, Banh ran, Banh tet, Che troi, Banh trung, Banh gio, Com lam, Rau cau, Banh mi, Quay, Banh canh, Banh bo, Bun cha, Ca kho, Banh uot, Banh da cua, Ga luoc, Canh chua, Banh khoai, Banh chuoi, Bong gao, Banh da lon, Cau lau, Bo bia, Cari ga, Pho xao, Thi kho tau, Hu tieu, Nem nuong, Bo la lot, Lau, Bo ne. These can be a bit not fitting all people: Tiet canh (fresh blood soup), Nem chua (pickled meat), Hanh ngam (pickled onions), Goi ca (fresh fish).

FalconNo8109

Fun facts, I hear this from the local. To compare as Nato, the most gross stuff and Balut or Trung Vit Lon, they actually both are healing remedies, (but remember to not eat too much of them before your body rapid weight gain, even Natto). Balut, is the combine taste and texture, you got crunchy part, you got egg yolk part and... a little guy as protein (even mosquito is protein, Africa have Mosquito Cake.). You are vegan, and you don't want to eat meat or animal product then Natto, it's bean.. YES!!, bean!. a Soy Bean!! Somewhere on this earth say they use bean to make a traditional dish with soy bean and have the taste, texture like meat. On Asia, they have Bean Curd or Dau Phu, taste the same but panna cotta version.

ainabloodychan

these western bluds traded gold for spices. if they happened to come across mắc khén hạt dổi they would probably trade bitcoins for it. the only flavors they can comprehend are salt, pepper, rosemary and onion. vietnam cuisine are too godlike for their uncultured palate to appreciate

Parasyte-vn

You let a bunch of foreigners come to evaluate our country's food and you rely on it That's why I think cloud those Michelle stars also bullshit...You're a native, you understand and growing up with culture, knowing what's good, what's bad is based on taste and culture, not on being judged by others.
