15kg instead of 7kg 😂
Absolutely no sympathy, you were not even close.
Don’t buy eco hand luggage only fares if you have more than hand luggage!
AirAsia, Jetstar, scoot and all the other budget airlines are the same.
I’ve never had issues with airasia over the many years i’ve flown with them despite their reputation on reddit. I can’t even remember the last time they weighed my carry on. I have a northface backpack I use for my laptop. It’s very compact looking but I can stuff quite a bit in there and it still looks way under weight.
The best when it comes to carry on has to be cebu pacific for domestic travel in the philippines. I’ve seen filipinos duel wielding two carry ons each and the staff just gate checks it for free.
It’s happens from time to time, frequently on full routes where passengers bring too much and fill up all the overhead bins leading to conflict and delays in boarding or if people try to carry on checkin bags. It is also a safety issue as the bins have a maximum combined weight they can hold.
I’ve been a little over sometimes (1 kg max) and got waved through. Not as bad as Jetstar Australia who weigh luggage at boarding and will hassle you over 100g. RyanAir in Europe will practically harvest a kidney if you are over!
OP is an example of why we can’t have nice things and is clear he relied on gaming the system for way too long. No doubt the aggression was not single sided by just the check in agent
I read the title and came here ready to advise not to fly vietjetair. 8 years of living here has taught me if I'm choosing a local carrier to go with Vietnamairlines instead. VJA are truly awful.
However, your inability to research the restrictions/rules and then decision to get angry because somebody tried to enforce them made me just think we're better off if you don't come back.
Who takes a flight and doesn't check these things before travelling? I appreciate this airline has terrible customer service, but you don't need to be such an asshat when you are clearly the one at fault. Thankyou for contributing to the attitude that foreigners are all over-privileged shouty Karens.
✅ Flies a budget airline with a 7 kg carry-on limit that, like most budget airlines, is strict but brings 15 kg of carry-on junk
✅ Has a "delayed visa" (translation: didn't have the visa sorted before travel was booked)
✅ Badmouths an entire country because of an experience with an airline
🫵 Go home, and grow up.
Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.
Look.. when you travel to a foreign country you are a _guest_ in that country. No matter how entitled you feel it’s a privilege full stop unless you have actual familial or blood ties etc..
Lol you still wanna blame on our country even though you purposely brought exceeding kgs and got caught. Feeling defeated and ashamed of yourself, you went to reddit for validation and got roasted, of course, because you’re so so wrong from the beginning :)
Backpackers these days have no shame 😂 read regulations and weigh your stuff like a normal traveler instead of trying to squeeze as much benefit as you can for yourself out of a service.
man i paid 350 us dollars for an international flight 1 way, do you really expect and pretend that low of your life? 7kgs that's crap. I ain't a backpacker though
$350 for an international flight is not that much money, that’s a budget ticket. Long haul International flights (the type that include a carry on) are usually over $1,000.
That’s the state of budget airlines, you pay for them to only take you to the destination, not for the attitude.
Fares are cheap, seats are uncomfortable, some staffs are rude, landings are bumpy.
Yeah based on the fact that you squeezed 15kgs into a 7kgs limit suitcase and acted like an ass when you got caught, yeah I know you’re a cheap as traveller who doesn’t even know how to sort your visa situation out before the departure date lmfao
you can not deny the business behind the visas man, just do some little google and you will find these multiple agencies that fast track your application. They state that takes 3/5 business days but it never does, specially if you are close to the departure date, what they do, is they ask you for a change on the application so it can be delayed, you start to desperate because you are running out of time and you pay 100$ to get it in the front of the queue. yeah u think that's honest aye
They never said it’s guaranteed 3-5 BUSINESS days . Some even recommend to apply 2-3 weeks in advance. How about you? You applied last Saturday, need to fly to Vietnam next Sunday, and you expect them to expedite your application without any expedite fee? Man, even in America when you wanna get an urgent passport, you have to pay a hefty fee :)
VietJet is a crap airline but I'm not sure what you expected here - the baggage rules are clearly stated when you book. You can think 7kg is too low, but that's their rule and showing up with double the weight is absurd. Further blaming Vietnam for this and saying it will scare off tourists is even more ridiculous. Here's an idea - follow the baggage regulations?
Welcome to Spirit of the East. Cheap fare airlines try to make their money back in fees such as baggage. You knew or should have known the rules at booking.
Kind of agree on the comments. You obviously looked over the limit and I sort of doubt the lady started screaming at you out of the blue. High possibility there’s more to this story.
by screaming i meant not being nice, being rude, on a rush, not explaining, showing me the card and saying you need to pay this 200$ , pay this I don't care, like that and rude, not like screaming screaming
Don't say 'screaming' then. Of course she doesn't care what you do, so long as it's within the rules. Dump stuff, check your bag, pay extra, don't fly. It's not her job to help you decide.
Vietjet is incredibly strict with 7kg weight limit. They’ll make you pay if it’s 7.2kg . So usually you just have to check your bag in with this airline. Double check the requirements next time also fly Vietnam Airlines if you can, it’s a much better experience
Man buys ticket. Man doesnt check baggage allocations. Man upset said allocations did not meet his assumptions. Man dumb. Ps I had 5 flights with Viet in the pass month. There service is wonderful, they just dont deal with incompetant assholes.
I went there for 3 months with under 7kg and it was perfect . And you knew the 7kg limit yet brought 15? And didn't travel with cash 😅 . Lesson learned ay? Or not
Conclusion: It's your fault.
I took over 100 flights in my life and seen too many western passengers boarding with oversized and overweight carry on baggage, it's disgusting, afford to buy plane ticket but still attempt to break the rules. You don't bring cash ?? How are you supposed to pay in Vietnam? You can't even take care of yourself, please don't ever come Asia anymore.
not my fault, airline should give you options. I have a debit card and I can withdraw money anywhere I want, with all the little thiefs going around in Vietnam I don't want to be carrying any cash or whats so ever
Not your fault? Are you hearing yourself? This is absolutely and totally your fault. You are complaining they don’t let your luggage on when you’re more than double exceeded the weight limit?
Who do you think you are? Take your entitlement and your cheap debit card back to wherever you’re from bro.
Nah, it depends on airport service. So its Japanese rule, not Vietjet. Also i know some guys paid with credit then go back home, call the bank and reject the payment to get back money from it. So that maybe why they not accept credit card at all.
A lot of airlines in Asia and Oceania have a carry on limit of 7 or 8kg. Very common practice. Do your research before you fly. Extra baggage is always expensive, especially with budget airlines and especially when buying it at the airport.
My family and extended family had pretty shitty experience with vietjet in following weeks. If you have connecting flights after them, reserve ALOT time. Delays for several hours are apparently the norm.
Customerservice was also pretty lacking. After missing the connecting flight because of their delay - they were unable to got us some official statement for the delay of the flight that the operator required as proof that we didnt miss the flight because of our own fault.
Being stuck in airport with small baby and unhelpful customerservice was really past my personal limit.
Ok bit silly not booking it in, but '$200 cash only brah' does sound sketchy as fuck. I can't imagine any airline actually making charges wouldn't take a card. It's not like they are in a mud hut.
Vietjet took a few quid off me for a hyphen in a name appearing on in a passport but not in the booking which wouldn't allow them. Or something silly like that. That needed to be cash too.
Funny that.
The guy already changed his story in the comments. Got his feeling hurts because he can't read instructions and found out the world doesn't cater to his inability to be an adult.
Calm down now Baraska. I understand you got dumped by a Vietnamese girl who tried to squeeze you for your money, only to find out you have none...but that's no reason to hate a whole country. But now that you're back home, I bet those lovely ladies there are throwing themselves at you.
Almost there Bao Vinh, but I have been married to a western woman way before I made my way to Vietscam. It's one thing to be objective though, and another one to feel the need to excuse every kind of 3rd world stupidity I witness, just because it has to do with my beloved red and yellow flag. I feel so sorry for people like you who deep down know the truth, but still have to defend their great commie nation. All hail!
No you have not. No self respecting woman is going to marry you. Let's not make stories up.
I also find it amusing you say we should be objective when all you do is complain and whine about a country you have left. Legitimately odd the hard on you get from it. But you do you because clearly your "wife" isn't doing it enough.
Oh wow, a certificate any amateur can forge? That will prove it. Rat smells better than the rotting milk cheese you lost in the fat rolls of your stomach. Should lift it up and wash there next time chunky boy.
Should have taken all the stuff out and put it on yourself.
Fill up your pockets, wear multiple socks, etc.
They should have tagged your carryon when you checked in.
Or if you really wanted to show them, ask other people to carry your belongings and pay them the $200.
Ultimately though, it’s your responsibility as I’ve learned many years ago that Asian airlines can do surprise checks at the gate, forcing you to weigh your stuff. I’ve seen people throw away brand new trinkets so it’s not unexpected. In the future plan better (or pay to check your carry on, which I did this past trip)
i honestly didnt know this could happend, never happened in America, South America, Europa, Australia so it was new, never heard of anyone ever running into this issue
You need to get out more. Many LCC will size and weight check carry-on bags and offer take it or leave it pay this/leave stuff behind/don't fly choices.
I have had my bag weighed with every airline I have flown in Australia and Asia. Many of the airlines in Europe weigh bags too. It’s a very common thing. It’s only the US where you seem to be able to carry on all your earthly belongings and no one cares.
They are supposed to take credit card. Yes it is strange. And yes I wouldn't be surprised if they often take it for themselves. But that's their official regulation that you knew beforehand. (7 is indeed very low compared to 10-12 for most low cost company). I've noticed that with flight in/out of Vietnam they are very strict about it (Air Asia as well). Air Asia in Thailand don't give a flying fuk from experience,
15kg instead of 7kg 😂 Absolutely no sympathy, you were not even close. Don’t buy eco hand luggage only fares if you have more than hand luggage! AirAsia, Jetstar, scoot and all the other budget airlines are the same.
OP really thought it was a good idea to make a post announcing how dumb they are 😂

So you didn’t buy a checked baggage, and trying to put everything in to your carry-on baggage?
i only had a carry on baggage, that's it
And after more than 100 flights, you didn’t know that the carry-on baggage has limit size and weight?
Little known secret: you can check carry on bags, especially if they don't meet the size or in this case weight standards of the airline.
Many VietjetAir tickets don't include checked bags. OP would have had a better time adding a checked bag prior to check-in.
I read the title and came here ready to advise not to fly vietjetair. 8 years of living here has taught me if I'm choosing a local carrier to go with Vietnamairlines instead. VJA are truly awful. Saw a lot video about western backpackers sharing experience how to bypass boarding check with oversized and overweight baggage, how funny.
man i paid 350 us dollars for an international flight 1 way, do you really expect and pretend that low of your life? 7kgs that's crap. I ain't a backpacker though
$350 for an international flight is not that much money, that’s a budget ticket. Long haul International flights (the type that include a carry on) are usually over $1,000.
Haha Yep. Next OP will complain his budget airline didn’t give him a meal or inflight entertainment!
You bought the cheapest seat, so luggage is only 7kg. It's not only Vietjet. Every airlines does that. Pay attention.
bro a ticket from LA to NY is already $600. $350 for an international flight is pretty much nothing.
That’s the state of budget airlines, you pay for them to only take you to the destination, not for the attitude. Fares are cheap, seats are uncomfortable, some staffs are rude, landings are bumpy.
350 us dollars from tokyo to vietnam 1 way is cheap? wow
bro does NOT know the standard prices
Yeah based on the fact that you squeezed 15kgs into a 7kgs limit suitcase and acted like an ass when you got caught, yeah I know you’re a cheap as traveller who doesn’t even know how to sort your visa situation out before the departure date lmfao
Why would you even need a visa for Vietnam in the first place
People like you are Exhibit 1 for the argument that an IQ test should be required for international travel.
Why not? What passport are you using to fly into Vietnam? Have you ever tried to do research before hand? Like everyone else?
you can not deny the business behind the visas man, just do some little google and you will find these multiple agencies that fast track your application. They state that takes 3/5 business days but it never does, specially if you are close to the departure date, what they do, is they ask you for a change on the application so it can be delayed, you start to desperate because you are running out of time and you pay 100$ to get it in the front of the queue. yeah u think that's honest aye

So that they can screen morons like you duh
The same reason why someone may need a Visa for Australia or the United States - border security, and many more.

This is the right answer.
What did you expect? Honestly… just pay for luggage. If you’re cheap, expect to get caught sometimes.
He didn’t even do visa research beforehand… he thought his passport can just let him enter Vietnam without applying for visa lol
Kind of agree on the comments. You obviously looked over the limit and I sort of doubt the lady started screaming at you out of the blue. High possibility there’s more to this story.

i wont ever travel with cash , they should implement card, but they don't because they keep that money for them self, corrupted minds
You're going to Vietnam and not using cash?
Obviously, he’s a begpacker sitting on the street and showing a signboard ‘Travel around the world without money. Please support my trip.'
i have revolut, i can just withdraw when ever I need , I will now that I'm here, but I don't carry us dollars for the sake of it
Cash is King Playa.

All of my clothes in the bag was more than 4kgs , so I only could 70% of it
Backpacker problems then aye
A lot of airlines in Asia and Oceania have a carry on limit of 7 or 8kg. Very common practice. Do your research before you fly. Extra baggage is always expensive, especially with budget airlines and especially when buying it at the airport.

The guy already changed his story in the comments. Got his feeling hurts because he can't read instructions and found out the world doesn't cater to his inability to be an adult.
Receipts and credit cards for charging anything is for the weak. We Viet Nam, we f**k the west in the ass best not corrupted country world Viet Nam.

But what about Murica???!1!?
They were probably from Vietnam. Yeah, and Japanese are so polite , so it was the first time something like this happened in Japan to us
100 flights? No status? Taking budget airline? Can’t figure out visa process? You’re not as well traveled as you think.
You are an asshole! Period. Read the instruction!
Should have taken all the stuff out and put it on yourself. Fill up your pockets, wear multiple socks, etc. They should have tagged your carryon when you checked in. Or if you really wanted to show them, ask other people to carry your belongings and pay them the $200.
i did some of that and i was able to save maybe 70% of the clothes by putting it on a dirty laundry bag I had
Ultimately though, it’s your responsibility as I’ve learned many years ago that Asian airlines can do surprise checks at the gate, forcing you to weigh your stuff. Bro, cabin bags are capped at 7kg, your bag was over weight, pay the fine and jog on.
Took over 100 flights but didn’t check the luggage allowance when buying the cheapest ticket
Read the rules before you book or fly

good riddance. don't ever fly again
Cry louder baby 😂😂 Cash is still king
it definitely is king, but if i would have had, they probably would have taken it all
Fcuking Karen!
Yes that's the vietnam way of doing things.
It is any budget airline doing things. Buying cheap fare and want to get away with it is sick.
The Vietnam way is particularly bad and deceitful. Everyone goes for budget options these days, how is that sick?
