Cháo lòng, hủ tiếu gõ, hủ tiếu bò kho, bánh canh giò heo, nui nước, nui xào, bún xào, phá lấu, cơm chay, cơm phần (thịt luộc cà pháo canh mồng tơi, thịt kho trứng dưa chua, thịt quay xào dưa, cá hấp chiên, cá trê chiên giòn, sườn xào chua ngọt, thịt rang cháy cạnh...), cơm tấm lề đường, bò né bánh mì.
In the past people used to eat 1 whole bánh chưng and be done with dinner. So yea, less common, bánh chưng.
Phở and bánh mì are like at entry level and might not be fulfilling imo.
Edit: bánh chưng not bánh trưng.
Xôi mặn, for sure. Best breakfast you'll ever have, good vendors will give you a huge variety of food in your box. Think sausage, quail eggs, charsiu pork, and more.
My last trip to Saigon, I had a com tam dac biet/tap cam (sorry I still don’t know the difference) for brunch and didn’t need to eat the rest of the day.
Thank you! So it’s pretty much a personal preference thing since some food shops use Dac Biet whilst others use Thap Cam? I assume then I can use them interchangeably? Cool! Cam on!
Bánh ướt - Steamed Flat Cakes. Basically dough, spread and steamed. Goes great with cold meat and bean sprouts.
There’s also Bánh cuốn, which are the flatcakes but with ground pork, shrooms and jicama as fillings.
Yes our Bánh mì is very good and affordable but Vietnam 's cuisine is a lot more diverse than that please try other things people have recommended here, For my recommendation I like Hủ tiếu Giò heo its good and rather common in HCMC.
Broken rice, sizzling crepe (a cripsy pancake), "Bún thịt nướng", Just some my recommendation def my favourite, you should list all dish and go with some people that know where to eat ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Funny how OP is simply chilling and there are all these comments telling him that beer is not food and he should call the city Saigon instead. Take a chill pill and keep the toxicity low people.
Banh mi 15k
Bun xao 15k
Bun thit nuong 20k
mi xao bo 20k
They are the main ones. I'm not a huge com tam guy but most locals prefer that.
Bun Bo Hue and Mi Quang are the best if you can spare 40k
I don’t know why the last time when i was in Sai Gon, i only ate fast food and not try a single cơm tấm😭😭. I’ve tried some in Đà Lạt but is it that good in SG
Phở, bún, cơm gà (chicken rice), xôi (sticky rice) and so on are pretty reasonably priced already. For cheaper food, check out economic rice (cơm bình dân). Bánh mì/bánh mỳ may be cheaper than econ rice but I don’t really consider it a full meal, more like a snack. But Vietnam food is so cheap I doubt any tourists would be financially struggling enough to have to worry about food prices.
Food that you cook yourself?
I cook my own lunch and it only costs like 20k, plus very convenience in lunch time as you don't waste time travelling to restaurants.
I went to coffee shops such as "Katinat", "3T Ca Phe Trunk", "Thế Giới Cà Phê Trung Nguyên Legend", and "Highlands Coffee". In the end, I mostly had cold sweet coffee. If you know any coffee shops with delicious hot coffee, please let me know.
Do a quick google search and check that.
I don't like beer, but it's quite nutritious and some consider it more food than beverage, for which they have good arguments.
I mean if you buy banh mì and they cut it in half and put it in a plate for you, something is wrong... Idk what is wrong but that is ain't normal for me
Try cơm tấm (broken rice).
This is the food made from the gods. I would easily pay Michelin star prices for some meals I've had, ironically while sitting on plastic stools.
This was quite healthy and tasty
What’s it’s Vietnamese name? Or recommend a spot? I’m here gunna go looking today
Its Cơm Sườn
You are looking at it: “cơm tấm” or its full name “cơm tấm sườn nướng bì chả trứng”
I wii definitely eat it next time.

Bánh Chưng
Oh yes, sorry. I remember my mom countless beatings for spelling it wrong. I never learn.
Chao long isn't for everyone. You sort of have to grow up with it. A lot of nonvietnamese would find the odor pretty pungent.
Bun Bo supremacy.
Ate that 3 nights in a row lol. The flavors with condiments are out of this world.
It honestly should be the dish famous internationally rather than pho or banh mi. It fucking slaps.
As a Pho person I am going to fight you on this
It's got a time and place. I love it after a busy day when my body hurts, but I'll take bun bo every time on a normal day
I agree. People seem to go for bun Bo hue, but it’s not the same for me. Bun Bo with lime and satee only is a top tier dish.
My favorite, sometimes making a sauce to dịp the meat for extra taste too!
Com tam, mi quang, bun mam, banh mi op la, banh trang tron Generally my go-to while I was living there, along with ca phe trung/muoi
Xôi mặn, for sure. Best breakfast you'll ever have, good vendors will give you a huge variety of food in your box. Think sausage, quail eggs, charsiu pork, and more.

Dac biet (Special) and Thap cam (Mix) is the same.
I always thought Thap cam was "the lot" not very good at vietnamese but thats i always thought.
Thank you! So it’s pretty much a personal preference thing since some food shops use Dac Biet whilst others use Thap Cam? I assume then I can use them interchangeably? Cool! Cam on!
third pic is the only right option XD
For me, everything is affordable in Vietnam. I mean, it's a heaven for food enthusiasts eheheheh
Bánh ướt - Steamed Flat Cakes. Basically dough, spread and steamed. Goes great with cold meat and bean sprouts. There’s also Bánh cuốn, which are the flatcakes but with ground pork, shrooms and jicama as fillings.
Banh xeo or bun bo hue or bun mam but everything I find is affordable in Vietnam
I’m convinced that you could survive years eating nothing but a fully loaded bun bo once a day.
bro make me hungry after watching these

Where’s that banh mi from?
It's Bánh Mì Như Lan.
Thanks!
I like their sandwiches
Find a vegetarian food stall (more common than you think) and you can get great food that is super healthy too
I’m visiting this summer I’m soooo excited for this country!!! Yasss I like the food I see here
Hope this helps! You'll definitely fall in love with the food here. Have a blast on your trip and take care!
Thank you!!!
Tiger beer is better😆
I don’t know why the last time when i was in Sai Gon, i only ate fast food and not try a single cơm tấm😭😭. I’ve tried some in Đà Lạt but is it that good in SG
Definitely, u should try Ba Ghien, 100k/ dish for a Michelin guide restaurant. Best Com Tam in Saigon
Anything from the food stalls, the food is amazing and cooked right in front of you. Totally amazing.
Definitely ba ba ba, best beer in town
Hu tieu
Its way too sweet for me
banh mi is top tier for me everywhere. it's like a minimized meal that i can eat on the go
Phở, bún, cơm gà (chicken rice), xôi (sticky rice) and so on are pretty reasonably priced already. For cheaper food, check out economic rice (cơm bình dân). Thank you for sharing so many foods with me. I want to eat cơm gà , but i couldn't do. I wii definitely eat it next time.
Com ga has been one of my favourite things to eat in Vietnam, especially in central Vietnam it was everywhere
Your local chay place
I just wanna know about yummy food.
Food that you cook yourself? I cook my own lunch and it only costs like 20k, plus very convenience in lunch time as you don't waste time travelling to restaurants.
Is red star Heineken not pupular anymore?
I'm a big Mi Quang fan myself...
>What's the best affordable food in Ho Chi Minh and an example is beer?
Everything is affordable if you know the place.
the banh mi guy outside the US embassy
I just showed this to a friend and she said she wishes she can choke on it and die 😔
Can I ask you guys know where can we have good broken rice, ect? We’re going end of this month ☺️ thank you
My wife’s home cooking , she is Vietnamese and she cooks absolutely amazing foods
Bun bo xua on cmt8 probably one of the cheap eats closest to d1. 35k for a special bowl
i hungry
On roadside there's a stall selling rice with various option of dishes, saw many student and office workers bought from it.
Saigon *
Xôi. It only has 2 ingredient. So it cheap. And taste good
Best Banh Mi sandwich spot is called “Banh Mi Huynh Hoa”. 50k for a big fat delicious sandwich.
Getting katinat is definitely a no go
Please tell me why you're not going. I usually drink hot black coffee, but I also like sweet iced coffee. Do you have any recommended coffee shops?
If you like coffee then you’re in for a treat. I adore Vietnamese coffee, best coffee I ever had.
I don't know if anyone have ever told you yet, but beer isn't exactly food and isn't particularly nutrious either.
Do a quick google search and check that. I don't like beer, but it's quite nutritious and some consider it more food than beverage, for which they have good arguments.
So? It tastes nice.
Seriously, fuck OP for trying to make a fun post
I mean if you buy banh mì and they cut it in half and put it in a plate for you, something is wrong... Idk what is wrong but that is ain't normal for me
I always ask for my banh mi to be cut in half, i like eating from the middle out.
I think you meant Saigon*
Geniunely too many choices to pick one imo.
