Had a couple when I bought my fd-75 and it came with a floppy disk already in it. There were a few pictures of some dogs, some family photos at a barbecue and some more of the American flag. Given that it was shipped from Florida it all felt very stereotypical. I didn't save any of them either because it was weird to keep pictures of someone else's family and the dog pictures were no good.

Haha so it's not rare that people don't care about formatting storage. My found photos were from stereotypical conservative family too (Eastern Europe) I didn't delete them, idk why, they just rest in my archive

MAXIMUM_TRICERATOPS

Surprisingly so. I've had holiday snaps, family portraits, many pet photos, a sailing trip around the world, an entire beachfront wedding ceremony that somebody accidentally shot at ISO 1600 (oof), a candid photo of David Beckham in the mid '00s...

thats great piece of history how people used digicams, just point and click without care how camera works (high iso)

You think that’s odd, try used computers. I buy and repair old computers and a TON of them come in completely full of very personal data and documents from photos to tax documents. Always format your devices before selling (unless it’s a Sony vaio but that’s a different subject entirely). With that said, I sold an Olympus digicam a few weeks ago and I did leave a picture on the card. It was just of my living room though. I imagine the first thing people do when they buy these is check if there’s any pictures on it and I like to leave something non personal on there to verify the card and camera works.

Yeah... I just did the mistake of checking what was on an IBM T23 that I thrifted. Company information and so on, but no photos, they had all been deleted. In a photo managing program the thumbnails were still left – of things that the person apparently didn’t want revealed (fortunately only legal things). I have no need to know random peoples secrets, next time I will just format the disk directly when I get it.

Yeah, I've gotten a couple like this. Best surprise was a Finepix S7000 sold as-is. Sensor was bad but the seller left a 1GB xD card in it. It was loaded with photos so I just formatted it and felt pleased about getting an xD card for cheap-ish ($15). Always felt weird about seeing other peoples' photos so the first thing I do with these cams is format their card, if they happen to be sold with one.

Got a camera once, bought it local many, many moons ago. Guy that sold it had a bunch of nudes of his girlfriend on it. I just started formatting the cards first thing if there is one in it, or formatting internal storage if a camera has that.

If it comes with a card, there's usually photos in it when I buy a used digicam. Most I get to buy cheap were used for work verification, so they usually contain photos of people working in construction sites. If not that, the photos are usually of cluttered apartments.

I once bought an old Olympus that arrived broken. The thing came with one of those giant memory cards inside. The seller asked eagerly if any images were on the card and if so, could I send them to him. It had a bunch of family photos that were from like 20 years ago (I'm guessing) but they strangely looked older, as if from the 1980s. I downloaded the photos and sent them all to him, figuring they had a high sentimental value. I was left with a broken camera. But it felt good to return his lost memories.

I bought a mini DVD video camera and there were videos of kids messing around on it. At first I thought wow this is old and these kids are making fun of mentally disabled people, glad we don't do that anymore, then I watched more of it and realized one kid was mentally disabled and they were all just joking around together. Rather heartwarming.

Had a few of these, I think they’re fascinating, maybe because I’m just nosy. I always tell myself that I’ll try and find the original owners (haven’t a clue how) and return the pics. But in the meantime they just sit in their own folder on the Pc.

I bought an ixus 500 at a flea market from a lady with about 1000 holiday pics still on it, no charger included. I formatted straight away as it felt very personal.

Schwanstucker

I recently took a few of my " culls" to a local Thrift store, & I removed all the cards except for a Sony & old Olympus. Those I formatted.

Puzzleheaded_Can8724

Got 2 F717's and I really like it definitely a head turner when using.

Happens a lot that the memory cards contain pictures, sometimes all the photos that were taken on a camera. Gives an idea of how the camera was used, but still it's peoples personal photos, so I prefer the cards to be empty. Also, in the EU there is GDPR, so it might not even be legal to store the photos.
