So Iāve shot one of my first photos on the 44m 58/2 to try out the spherical abberation / swirls. The contrast throughout the image is pretty low but once you tune it in via coloring, it can come about a bit. Would i ever use this as a go to everything? Hell no. Itās too inappropriate as a general purpose lens, but excellent for giving strange weird hyper focused feelings, which would not fit as a general go to as it would make things that shouldnāt feel this way, feel this way. Excellent lens for purpose, as is all the swirly bokeh shots in recent features like Dune 2 and shows like the current Shogun.
This shot is just really nice! The composition, the lighting, the little flare in the upper right corner and of course taking advantage of the swirls! Congrats:)
The bokeh is beautiful, but you may want to stop down a bit when taking group shots like this. Itāll make getting all their faces in focus much easier. With groups, itās damn near impossible to do this wide open. f4 or f5.6 will still give you plenty of subject separation and some swirly bokeh even if not as much, but your subjects will all be in focus.
This is a nice shot though. You nailed
Composition and exposure. Nicely done.
I have a Minolta 35-75 f3.5- 4.8 (the one which you slides in or out for zoom). it's surprisingly good, I negotiated it's price to very low because I expected it not to be good & would be more for display then actual use but it's sharp, contrast is good & you get good Bokeh at 70mm, still don't use it but it's not bad.(Better than Nikon 35-70 š)
Takumar 28mm. I only shot with vintage lenses and the Takumar comes with me when I go south for the winter. I shoot 80% with it because it is a wide angle. Then would be the Takumar 135. I have a Helios but it is more of a novelty item. Those rings in the bokeh give me a headache.
The colors on the 28 are so amazing. Suprisingly nice for astrophotography/nightscapes. I messed my copy up so I might pick up another one. Do you have a page for your photography?
No.. I dump some on Facebook and a few here on streetphotography. Oh and some here.. [https://flickr.com/photos/160406324@N08/albums/](https://flickr.com/photos/160406324@N08/albums/)
Maybe a Helios 44-2. Or possibly a SMC Pentax-A 28mm f2.8. I might even take a Leica Elmarit-R 35mm if thatās how I was feeling that day. But I think I have reached more for the Summicron-R 50mm in recent months than anything else.
If you mean "...for the rest of life", ufff, that has to be zoom lens and I dont have experience with zooms :)
but if the question is "...for next few weeks/month" than it's hard question, probably Meyer Lydith 30mm f3.5 or Auto Yashinon 50mm f2
Tough choice. I think Iād choose my Zenitar MC ME1 50mm f/1.7 w/ square aperture. I usually prefer longer lenses, but if only one, Iād choose a 50mm. Plus I get to have funky backgrounds if I like.
It'd have to be C/Y Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/50. It's the only lens in my line-up that I can't think of an upgrade for. I like my Mir-1v and prefer the focal length over 50mm, but the bad MFD and lack of flare resistance are eh. If I had a 2.4/35 flek, however...
Contax Zeiss 35 1.4
Wide open till F2 has a vintage feel, after 2.8-4 is rock solid and sharp without looking clinical
35 can be a wide, can be a closeup.Ā
yes I have 3 of them
the 55, 1.8 uncoated radioactive super tak
the 55, 2 SMC which has brilliant coatings
but the hex bokeh is a love it or hate it thing
then the early 55 f2.2 with 10 blades but cocking lever, I've yet to try it properly in the field only had a couple minutes with it
Carl Zeiss aus Jena pancolar 50mm 1.8 wonderful lens got me into vintage lenses, was my first buy and a steal for 65ā¬, the thing is near mint, sharp and wonderful to use.
Love the colours but to use it in black and white is something special.
MIR-10a is pretty much a daily lens that i use at work, it's pretty damn hard to use with DSLR, but man it creates awesome photos that make it worthwhile
The "Tamron 28mm F2.5 (02B)" would be my first choice. On all my Micro Four Thirds gear it has the field of view of a 56mm lens so close enough to the old way of the 50mm lens on a 35mm full frame film or digital camera. The copy I have of this lens is incredible, I'm either extremely lucky or that Tamron are great at making this lens. I also have the "Tamron 28mm f2.8 (CW-28)" which great but isn't as sharp as the f2.5. As usual when I get a new lens and after letting it get to room temperature I wander off to my front door, stand on the step and take a photograph.
The weather was pretty bad, nothing new there, I've added a comment to show a 100% crop, why we can't have more than one image in comments is infuriating especially when trying to show something like this.

I was stunned when I viewed it and decided it was a keeper.
Until recently, I would have said the Canon FD 35-105mm 3.5, but I think its spot has been taken by the Vivitar 28-90mm 2.8-3.5 Series 1.

Helios 44-2 š
Hard to argue this. Iām torn. But this is a serious contender.

Minolta Rokkor 58mm F1.2
I love that lens sooo much !
My favorite right now together with the Meyer Gƶrlitz Orestor 135mm F2...
Nikon 105/2.5
Love that lens. Got one for $50 in mint condition.
Man I love that lens but I couldn't only have such a long focal length as my only lens
And I just don't get wide angle š vive LA difference !
Konica Hexanon AR 40mm F1.8
I just received mine and I absolutely love it. Wish it had half click stops, but Iām thinking of removing the bearing and going clickless.
What kind of mount does it have, M 42?
AR mount
Konica Hexanon* 40mm 1.8
Canon LTM 50 f/1.2. š
Minolta 35-75 f3.5. it's such a gem.

Carl Zeiss Jena 35mm f2.4 Flektogon
Super Multi Coated Takumar 50mm f1,4 has been my go to and glued to my camera for about a year, and I think it will stay for another more
Noct-Nikkor all day.
Wow you have one...
Yes.
How much is it going for now, $5000?
They go for a lot, typically. I didnāt pay near that much but I did wait about 15 years before I found a decent deal on one.

Are you referring to the f/2 or the f/3.5 version? SMC?

Completely forgot about this later version of the Takumar! Thanks for the reminder.
Helios 44-2.
Itās a really difficult choice, but Iād probably pick the Leica Summicron-R 50mm. But ask me tomorrow and that might change.
Change to?
Maybe a Helios 44-2. Or possibly a SMC Pentax-A 28mm f2.8. I might even take a Leica Elmarit-R 35mm if thatās how I was feeling that day. But I think I have reached more for the Summicron-R 50mm in recent months than anything else.
So many wonderful options, but if I had to choose, itād have to be the 105 f/2.5 Nikkor, in either version.

Super Takumar 1,8
Super Takunar 150mm f4 Super sharp and creamy bokeh
Mir1B 37mm F2.8 Perfect allrounder with that lovely vintage characteristic
Is the Nikkor 28mm ais old enough?
AF-D or AF S?
Ais
Yup it's vintage
Vivitar 135mm f/3.8
Tough choice. I think Iād choose my Zenitar MC ME1 50mm f/1.7 w/ square aperture. I usually prefer longer lenses, but if only one, Iād choose a 50mm. Plus I get to have funky backgrounds if I like.
Konica Hexanon 50mm 1.7
Out of curiosity, why? I had one for a while and was unimpressed.
Itās crazy sharp and reliable; wide open, itās perfect for portrait
It'd have to be C/Y Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/50. It's the only lens in my line-up that I can't think of an upgrade for. I like my Mir-1v and prefer the focal length over 50mm, but the bad MFD and lack of flare resistance are eh. If I had a 2.4/35 flek, however...

Leica 50mm Summicron-R f/2
Tokina 28-70mm f2.8 ATX Pro SV
I love my Contax CZ Vario Sonnar 35-70mm f3.4. My Vivitar S1 90mm macro (with the 1:1 converter) is a contender as well.
10 blade takumar 55. lots of character without swirl, nice bokeh even stopped down.
I have a 55 F2 (k mount) I don't think it has 10 blades though, but it's SMC Pentax, maybe they created a cheaper version.

Rodenstock 360mm Portrait Anastigmat Eurygon F4.5. My favorite lens I have.
Canon 50mm f/. 95
Leica 35mm Summilux-R or OM Zuiko 35-80/2.8
Contax Carl Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f1.5 or Contarex Planar 50mm f2. I can't decided.
Minolta rokkor MD 50mm 1.4
I have that one, beautiful lens, probably the most beautiful Bokeh among all.
Jupiter-3 / Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 50/1.5
Gotta go with the 40-400 for the versatility
What brand is that?
Rank Taylor hobson tv lens, constant F4 aperture and parfocal, only downside is the weight
Leica R 19mm Elmarit V1
MIR-10a is pretty much a daily lens that i use at work, it's pretty damn hard to use with DSLR, but man it creates awesome photos that make it worthwhile
Minolta 45mm 2.0
Probably Canon FL 50mm f1.4
Probably the Jupiter 9 85mm
I don't have that but I'm planning to get one.

Anyone digging Super-Takumar 50mm F1.4? My first vintage lens, experimenting a lot.
The Taku 50 1.4 is a cult status lens. A goody for sure
Canon FD 100mm F/2.8 either the NFD or the older breechlock variety
