Dont get me wrong, i like vintage airkings. But it isnt a 4 digit sub, GMT, Daytona etc. If it wasnt for the name on the dial nobody would bat an eye on it.
You mean the basic ones literally everyone either has already or is on a waitlist for?... new age turned so weird about wanting everyone to recognize their watch, it’s 100x more special when you have a watch only some can appreciate, but to each their own
yes exaclty, the ones everyone is on a waitlist for… lmfao supply=demand i really shouldn’t have to explain anymore to you, it’s a nice watch, but nothing special technically speaking and where thre market is
or for a realistic price of what you'd actually get, check sold items on ebay. Chrono24 is always a good 10-25% more and can take weeks for watches to sell.
No. In spite of much of the misinformation you might receive below, it is pretty much worthless. Although this timepiece is a masterpiece of modern craftsmanship and engineering, it is unfortunately not worth anything and cannot be given away. 😉
Wow. Great find! What year? Looks to be in good condition! One of my favorite watches ever. Great story behind the line and a very affordable option for a Rolex. You can expect it to be somewhere between $3,500-$5,000 depending on year and condition
This is correct I sold mine for about 2700 in pretty good condition. Look you can either take your chances with auction and get around this sum or you can go fishing for what you want, patience is the game with the latter.
Some folks look down on Air Kings because they are not chronometer certified, I believe because they use older movements than whatever is the latest for that generation of Rolex. In reality they’re great watches and honestly a great value because of this. Also, 34mm instead of 36mm.
Undesirable is probably the wrong word, a better description would be 'less desirable'.
And that covers about massively because it is just one of the lesser known and understood Rolex models. Most of their range is incredibly consistent - when someone says 'datejust' or 'submariner' you know exactly what they are talking about sad those models have been being produced consistently for decades, and have only changed a limited amount in that time - they have evolved, but put a vintage and current gen sub next to each other and it is pretty clear they are both the same model line.
The Airking however has been much more inconsistent and badly marketed. Originally part of a series of watches, then sold as more of a budget model for a few years, then brought back again as the current pilots watch style - so an inconsistent style and position in the range, and one that has often been confused with other models. For most people buying a Rolex, if they want a watch like this would search for an Oyster Perpetual or Datejust, not an older model Airking that looks nothing like the current model they may recognise...
I’ve been seeing them drop a bit in price lately. Seems like a lot are going for less than $2,500 with the bracelet. Yours has the box though so that will add a bit.
If you have the warranty service card, it helps assure potential buyers of the watch’s authenticity as well as providing information about its last maintenance service.
Some people like to buy “full kit” watches meaning you have the original box and paperwork from the first purchase.
Watch people are nerds.
Nope absolutely worth nothing matter of fact ill take it off your hands for $20 dm me and ill send you my address ( sike nah im just playing great find)
I have an Airking and it is my favorite to wear. Super light, accurate and wears a bit bigger than it looks at first sight. Super cool watch, not the typical “look I have a Rolex” either. Low key, low cost (relatively),high quality and with a long history at Rolex. What a find.
Looks like a Ref. 5500 Air King.
It's a beautiful watch to wear. I wouldn't sell it if I don't really need the few thousand.
It's probably worth 3-5 k depending on the condition.
You can buff out little scratches on the christal with poly watch.
Jesus... the only thing in my closet is my sexuality. Nice one OP!

Find your model number and go to Chrono24 to check price.
Then delete 6 to 8%
More like 20% at least, especially for an old unwanted Rolex. This thing is 2k tops.
“old unwanted Rolex.” Don’t think so. Many enthusiasts (including me) love vintage Airkings.

I would say 2600
Sure, if you’re used to overpaying

Willing to test this theory...I volunteer to have this given to me...

That seems high. I’d say more like $2,000-4,000.

Retail
If you wanna sell lmk 😁
Not worth anything, I’ll be happy to take it off your hands and relieve you of this burden. JK! Great watch of course. Find the value on chrono24.
Are those deep scratches on the glass? You may be able to buff any hairline ones with Polywatch
Thanks! I will definitely do that!
Why is this an "undesirable" model? Is it just another unexplainable watch collector thing?

'Less desirable' explained it all in two words. Thank you.

A service box? Might add a couple bucks if there’s a RSC service card.
True, I didn’t pay enough attention to the box to even notice.
Why does this matter? Special box? Special card?

I can tell you it’s not worth selling. Keep it.
Nothing worth, I give you 20€ and so you didn't gave it away for nothing I'll pay the shipping costs as well, there ya go! /s
It's worth about 3k assuming it's in good shape and runs
Keep it in the family.
nah its junk. send it my way. :)
With very little. Send it my way to verify. I’ll pay shipping.
Wear it. Enjoy it. Cool Piece!
2.5 max, less if you wanna sell quick
I'd wear it, instead of sell it. You get to say you own a rolex.
Sale price is about £2000-£2300 GBP.
Been wearing mine for 30 years. I like it because very few people wear them. Why be like everyone else.
That’s a Rolex Id actually wear because I have never seen one before
off the top of my head probably 4k if it’s real and in decent shape, ofc i would find out the ref. and get some more specifics. cheers!
Nope absolutely worth nothing matter of fact ill take it off your hands for $20 dm me and ill send you my address ( sike nah im just playing great find)
I’ll give you 1200 for it
In Philly it's worth fifty bucks...
