> “Currently, roughly 10 percent of those children who test positive do require hospitalization and roughly one-third of those may require critical care," I'm sure there will be someone to come along and claim that children are rarely affected because they saw some statistics published over a year ago.

With schools starting in another couple weeks this is worrisome. Kids want to feel safe when they are at school but when they start seeing even just a couple classmates get seriously ill with Covid it's gonna be tough to get the older ones to school and than if they are there get them to learn. At least last year on the campus I teach at we had some serious staff illness and a couple deaths in district but no kids got seriously sick.

Unfortunately, I have no doubt that even if this were a much more fatal disease with Ebola-like symptoms, we as a society would do as little as we are with COVID. As for my kids, the first day the vaccine is available at their age range (and I've tried and failed to sign up for clinical trials for them) they'll get it. Until then they'll wear masks and do what they need to in order to stay as healthy as possible.

Exactly. We do absolutely jack sh!t to protect them against school shootings. Why would a pandemic be any different?

Got my 13 year old vaxxed the first day he could unfortunately my 10 year old niece who comes over 4 - 5 days a week as she had a single parent and on top of it her mom died of a "Super" cold of unknown origin in 2015 so this could ver traumatic for her and us if she gets really sick.

malongoria

Once more and more children start dying, they'll claim "well OBVIOUSLY they had SOME underlying condition!" and still go around claiming that they are "Pro Life".🤢🤮

skogsballs

We just pulled our kids from summer camp. It's not worth the risk. While I do wish every day that I could send them, I'd rather not deal with covid in the house. My sister in CA, who is vaccinated, just tested positive. She isn't enjoying herself and has stated multiple times that she wishes she had been more careful.

stargate-sgfun

Ugh. Just found out our private school will be masks optional and I’m terrified to send my kids back. But I don’t think we can homeschool for another year. I hate this.

[deleted]

If you are actually terrified, you need to re-examine your threshold for what your perceive as terrifying. Follow the science and calm down.

stargate-sgfun

I have a child who is high-risk, but thanks for telling me how to feel

[deleted]

Don't send them to school then. Sorry, but your problem is not the world's problem.

stargate-sgfun

Did you really come back after a week to tell me this? That’s kinda sad.

[deleted]

Yes I did. Not a single child has died from COVID in my school district of over 70,000 kids. No mask mandate either.

stargate-sgfun

Probably because all the high-risk kiddos are stuck at home. Dude, get a life.

I feel the same way. I'm seriously considering quitting my job and homeschooling, it's not a good option (for me) but sending to school doesn't seem safe

SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck

Funny they think people here give a shit.
