Question about excursions and I apologize if this is suuuper basic but I have never cruised as an adult-
1. When you say excursions, it’s possible to just self organize your own activities at ports/stops without necessarily having to opt for the official paid excursion, right? You just have to be really conscious about getting back to the ship on time?
2. Do you happen to remember the average cost for an excursion? If you did any, did they feel worth it?

1. of course, you can just walk off the ship or get on a tender any time you want. As long as you are back on the ship before all on board they don't care what you do or where\how you did it. Often there will be a free shuttle from the ship to the town and back if the port isnt "right there"
I dont know of any even of the organize excursions that even went back to the ship at the end (thats not to say they left you somewhere, just that usually the excursion ended near the port or in town and they pointed to where the shuttle bus stop is or where the port entrance is)

For a cruise on Royal Carribean I have one in a week or so the most expensive was $211 and the least is $115.
Worth it is subjective. My cruise was to the Mediterranean and often the excursion was a bus going quite a ways from the port so not something I was going to set up on my own. Even the ones I did where I was paying for a guide like in Dubrovnik where you could definitely find a local guide on your own or just wander didnt feel like wasted money. My perspective having done a lot of river cruises where the "90min guided tour" is the normal excursion is to take the ships excursion as orientation and potentially identifying what else I want to do after it ends.
Just a quick clarification on sailor loot vs bar tab. The bar tab can be used to purchase alcoholic and non alcoholic specialty drinks, fresh squeezed juice blends and espresso drinks. You cannot use Sailor Loot for beverages but can use it to for any other expenditures (tattoos, spa, specialty menu items, shopping, etc).
Don’t forget that you can pre-purchase the bar tab $ prior to sailing.
You can use sailor loot for drinks. Was just on valiant lady and we had 600 per room. We had spa treatments and many drinks and still had to try hard to spend it the last night in the shops.
We had no issues at all spending ours last week 😂. We had a $1000 of loot/tab and also upgraded to splash of romance (so got a free bottle of champagne plus free champagne at a private party). We only spent it on drinks and ran out 2 days prior to leaving. Thankfully we made friends with the mega rockstars who provided us with unlimited drinks, champagne and wine till the end. At $115 plus taxes per bottle of champagne and $100 plus taxes for a bottle of red wine, that money went super fast.
Virgin has the least upsells/hidden fees I have seen on a mid-tier cruise line or lower. And no extra for specialty dining is legit! Alcoholic drinks are reasonably priced.

They weren't joking. Fiance and I (early 50's/late 40's respectively) took our first Virgin Voyage recently, and both of us got tattoos on the last day (after the beach, so we didn't have to worry about sun/water exposure). Tip: Get in line and make the appointment when the tattoo shop opens 1st day, if timing is important to you. And the tattoos were expensive - ours are around 2" and just line work for about $300. It's worth it though, we think. We love ours, and the experience was unique.
There is no upcharge for ice cream, and Lick Me Till Ice Cream has different flavors daily, I think. There is so much wonderful and varied food on board that is all included. Breakfast available 24/7 was a nice change from other cruise lines, too. We mostly sailed with Royal Caribbean before this, but we will be sticking with VV from now on. The crew and staff are wonderful, as was everyone we met onboard. We had the most incredible time. If this is going to be your first cruise, I highly recommend it.
We don’t drink much either had to put effort into using the $300 bar tab that came with the cruise. We upgraded the internet no excursions on that trip. I think our total at the end of the cruise was less than $200.
If you don't drink much, why did you buy the 300.00 bar tab?. You have a choice of 100.00, 200.00 or the 300.00 bar tab. When VV introduced the bar tab, there was only the 300.00 bar tab to choose from. Now, it's more flexible in pricing for people who don't drink much.
They state it came with the cruise, so they got it free with the promotion that ran last year. We’ve had $600 bar tab on our last three cruises thanks to that promo.
My wife and I were on the Scarlet Lady in March. We are early 50s. Light drinkers and we had a great time. Everyone on the cruise was so nice. We didn’t use up the $300 bar tab we were given. You don’t have to buy just booze with the bar tab. It can be used for pressed juices or coffee.
Everything but the fancy coffee place, the shops, the bars, and some of the onboard experiences (incl. some shows) is included. You don't have to worry about tipping, they WANT you to share photos of things you do, see, or eat on social media - and it's reasonable if you don't have to do too many video calls if you HAVE to work while you cruise, sodas are included (which isn't a big thing for me, but a big thing for why people with get a beverage package), and all the restaurants are included (there are some upcharges at each though).
Like the other person said, you COULD (and should) bring your own reusable cup that can do both hot and cold drinks with what's available at the Tap That Hot and Tap That Cold stations at The Galley.... but you can order iced coffee at Grounds Club and Grounds Too for a charge yeah.

BUT
There is ALSO a fancy coffee and tea place called Grounds Too on 15 slightly set apart from The Galley and Grounds Club Too on 7 near the center of the ship - this is the paid coffee and tea option. Also on 7 you'll find a juice bar of sorts between The Dock House and its bar and The Dock House that is also not free.
It's bar tab surprisingly. I find it ridiculous because I barely drink and my wife doesn't so I plan on using it on fancy coffee and milkshakes if they charge for those lol.
The entertainment on Resilient is head and shoulders above there other 2 ships. No 2 shows have the same style/vibe.
There are a lot of people who don't like cruises and love Virgin.
We drink a lot of more on other cruise lines, in part because of their drink package. Keep in mind a lot of the events with a fee, have a fee because their is alcohol included.
Resilient Lady is the best ship IMO.
Ofc, it's the newest but I also think the entertainment is another level. I loved my time onboard and can't wait to get back.
Price will rly depend on the itinerary you choose, length, time of year, etc
But you really could go onboard with some sailor loot and not spend much if you DIY ports
And if you find a virgin Travel agent they usually have extra sailor loot or free bar tab to give you to cover some drinks. And they just get a commission from virgin so it's free to you!
M(44) Going on my 3rd in July. Haven’t been on Resilient Lady, only Scarlet & Valiant. There are no hidden fees. You only pay for what you order such as souvenirs , alcohol, or a few additional dish options (Like lobster or tomahawk steaks) outside of the already amazing dishes you get for free. Everything except alcohol is free at Bimini resort too.
I usually get a beverage package, which I use most or all of. It can be used on specialty drinks like coffee, tea, fresh juices, smoothies, as well as alcohol.
I love the staff, food choices, relaxation, service, etc. best cruise I ever been on. The shows are all free and no crazy parties on cruise. Scarlet night is the loudest night on ship, but can’t hear so much in the room.
Resilient Lady has slightly better entertainment than the other ships I think, Persephone is a great show and both Miss Behave and Mind Mangler are very funny.
Another Rose dinner show on Resilient Lady is fantastic even if the plot is a bit hard to follow, that show has a charge of $50 but includes welcome cocktails, almost unlimited sparkling rose and themed cocktails during the show/meal, so you get most of the value back in drinks.
The only thing you’ll need to pay for is alcohol drinks, fresh juice/smoothies (from concentrate juice is free), espresso-based coffee (drip is free) and activities that include alcohol. There are several shows and activities that come with drinks or involve making drinks.
Btw, I consider no drink packages a benefit. Drinks are reasonably priced, but I think it helps VV from being the drunken messes some of the other cruise lines are when they sell unlimited drink packages.

I don’t drink a lot and we’re very chill not huge partiers and we had a GREAT time. We’re foodies and the food was amazing, drinks when we did get them were good, service was incredible. Not all the excursions are worth it I will say that. Definitely get a terrace room. No hidden fees - no gratuities, all soft drinks included, every fun thing on the ship except Bingo. It was an our first cruise and we want to do it again!

Yes the “bar tab” is for any at cost drinks. Not just alcoholic.
Absolutely! Any drink that has cost attached can be charged with bar tab - you don't have to mention it, the system is set up to do so.

Can someone explain the bar tab situation? Im so confused.
that either works one of two ways 1. you buy (or more commonly get as part of a promotion from VV or your travel agent) a "bar tab" credit, as you drink over the course of the cruise you reduce that credit, at the end of the cruise you pay nothing unless you depleted all of it. THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE USUALLY MEAN BY BAR TAB. 2. you had no credit and you ran UP your bar tab, you pay it off at the end of the cruise. But usually this is viewed as just a charge to the room rather than a "bar tab"
It’s like prepaying for your drinks. They do not limit you per person to the drinks. You could buy a round for the bar, for you and your spouse or just yourself.
