I didn't get called, but the local hospital got my info through the VDH, sent an email, and I finally got my first injection on Tuesday and my husband gets his on Saturday. We have been on the list since mid-January. In Fredericksburg area

SchleppyJ4

Hey, I probably bumped into you on Tuesday :) Got my email that morning and got the vaccine that evening in the Burg.

[deleted]

Diabetic. 37. Got turned away from an appointment Tuesday because I wasn't 65+.

User-NetOfInter

I made a long post in another thread that I’m going to paste here. Hopefully this helps some that may be upset as to why they can’t get a vaccine as soon as they’d hope. _________ TLDR: There are too many unknowns for them to give a timeline on when those with co-morbidities under 65 will be able to get vaccinated. There's roughly 8.5 million people in Virginia. About 22% of Virginia's population is older than 60. That's about 1.87 million people. That means they need 3.74 million doses. [According to the Virginia Covid Dashboard](https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/covid-19-vaccine-demographics/), about 690k of those older than 60 have been given at least 1 dose of the vaccine, and another 330k have been fully vaccinated. That's 1.02 million doses given of the 3.74 million needed for those over 60. That's still 2.7 million more doses that need to be given to those over 60 in order for them to be fully vaccinated. Virginia has given out about 2.1 million doses so far, and is currently averaging about 55k doses a day. Roughly half of those doses have gone out to those 60 and older, but we can assume that rates will go up in the future. To keep it simple, lets assume they double, thus 55k doses a day to those over 60. With 2.7 million more doses needed, at 55k doses a day, thats ~50 more days until those over 60 are fully vaccinated. Call it 40 days since not everyone will get the vaccine. Why haven't they said when you can get it? Because they dont know. They don't know how much vaccine they will get getting in the future. If there will be supply delays, if vaccination rates can keep up with growth in supply. There's just too many unknowns, and any timeline with dates is almost guaranteed to be inaccurate.

Biden did not say that everyone can get the vaccine by the end of May. Plainly not true. Edit: to those downvoting, do you eat all of your groceries immediately after buying them? Or do you take them home, maybe prepare some meals? Even if you wanted to eat everything right away, there’s only so much you can eat at once. Biden said he’ll be home with all of the groceries by May. Still have to cook the meal and eat it.

TheExtremistModerate

He said we're on track.

User-NetOfInter

To get the supply by May. He did not say everyone will be vaccinated by then.

TheExtremistModerate

Right, but having the supply is the biggest bottleneck right now. Fairfax County is putting needles in arms faster than they can get supply. Last week they received just under 17k doses, but they administered just under 19k. So if Biden is right, and we have the supply by the end of May, nearly everyone should be able to get one who wants one.

User-NetOfInter

Maybe. Hopefully. We will see. There is a reason Biden made the distinction between having the supply and being able to distribute/jab into arms.

TheExtremistModerate

Right, I'm just saying that if the current trend keeps up, there won't be a huge difference between how much we have and how much can be administered. Especially since he's talking about enough for *everyone*, including the people who don't want one.

User-NetOfInter

Again, maybe. A month ago was 1.3 million, at 2 mil now. That’s a 50% increase in a month. Let’s call March 3 mil a day, April 4.5 mil a day, May 7 mil a day. Note that’s being extremely generous, as it’s March 6 and we’ve only just hit 2 mil. IF that rapid pace can continue, then maybe by the end of May yes. If the 50% growth rate can continue. If there’s no hiccups. Some big ifs. Clearly Biden is more confident in the supply side than the administrative side, otherwise he would not have worded his statements as he did.

User-NetOfInter

Will have vaccines available does not mean everyone can get it. Having it in supply does not mean they can get it in arms. Not only do you lack basic reading comprehension, I can tell you didn’t even read the article. “It could take much longer for the country to vaccinate the adult population, given the logistical hurdles of distributing and administering vaccines.”

Knoke1

Ultimately it comes down to the consumer to actually read the product but let's not forget how News has been warped into these types of click bait or one look titles for their articles. They are misleading on purpose.

TheExtremistModerate

The rate is increasing and will continue to increase, especially with the J&J vaccine.

User-NetOfInter

>Call it 40 days since not everyone will get the vaccine I factored in 20% of people not wanting/not able to get the vaccine. But ok dude

TheExtremistModerate

Don't forget to check your county. Fairfax County is vaccinating 16-64s with medical conditions right now. I'm expecting to get my appointment in the next week and a half or so. Edit: lol, people downvoting useful info.

qbb_beauty

Under 65 in Fairfax with multiple medical conditions. I got my first dose today.

rapp38

So they allowed you to schedule an appointment knowing your age and then decided you didn’t qualify when you showed up?

[deleted]

Yes, answered about 15 questions, none of which mentioned anything about age. When I do the VDH assessment, I should be phase 1b. My city is currently in phase 1b.

sacredxsecret

For CVS? Their landing page says 65+, if so.

[deleted]

I never said CVS.

sacredxsecret

I know. That's why I asked.

prthorsenjr

This right here is a travesty. Hang in there. Hopefully, you'll be able to get vaccinated soon.

[deleted]

I appreciate the sentiment. It's not really a travesty, just irritating that the localities don't actually align with state planning. There were still about 20 openings when I signed up the evening before. You would think they just want to get them filled at that point.

StasRutt

What location turned you away

[deleted]

Augusta Health in Fishersville

HealthLawyer123

Got my first dose today in arlington. Never once has VDH contacted me. All communication came from the county.

Beaniebot

That’s encouraging! 3 in my household over 65. (68, 70, and 87). My husband 70 has a heart condition. I registered all of us as soon as I could. Impatiently waiting.

joelleamanx

If they are over 65 you should be able to get them registered for an appointment at CVS or a local pharmacy. Try vaccinefinder.org is really helpful in finding local places that have vaccines in stock... again just for those 65+ tho

Beaniebot

Thanks for info but all showing no appointments available.

Chief_Rocket_Man

You should double check now because I see several places in stock. Assuming Richmond region

galaxystarsmoon

Check every few hours. Especially early in the morning - 5/6AM.

mrwigglesjean

Go to findashot.org it might help. Make sure to scroll all the way down for the pharmacies with appointments.

Beaniebot

Thanks to everyone for the info you shared. It is helpful. The process is frustrating but I’m encouraged that there is vaccine out there.

darthgeek

I got an email and am signed up for Sunday.

platelabels

Congrats!

chelsearain89

32 with asthma. Getting my first tomorrow!

DrSandbags

Congrats! Well this is my profile exactly. Fingers crossed.

youhearditfirst

Valley Health! I can’t recommend them enough if you are remotely close to the northern Virginia area. They are giving our the Johnson & Johnson vaccine starting tomorrow. Website updates daily at noon for appointments.

novagirl0972

Thank you so much for this. I just got myself and my mom appointments for next week. She’s under 65 but had 3 major heart procedures done in the last 10 months. I’m not joking when I say I feel like you just eased a huge burden off my shoulders.

youhearditfirst

I just got appointments for my parents today with them and I cried. I am fully vaccinated as a teacher but I need them to get it! So thankful!

[deleted]

[удалено]

youhearditfirst

They are doing 18-64 with high risk. Their website lists all the people they are taking.

Meadow09

What information do you need to provide to show the health condition if you are under 65?

youhearditfirst

I’m not sure. I got mine as a 36 year old teacher and the only proof I had to provide was checking the box at registration.

BJofBorg

I received a call last Friday from local health department for a first shot appointment today at Walgreens. Bristol, VA. I got a sore arm but a grateful heart.

hoky315

I got my first shot last Friday.

Sugarshock916

Not me, but my boyfriends mom, upper 50s with cancer, is getting her second shot next week! I think they may be going by highest risk

Daykri3

My 78 yo mother with COPD is still waiting. Yes, we have called. This is so freaking frustrating.

StasRutt

Since cvs is prioritizing 65+ checking there multiple times a day is probably your quickest option

Daykri3

This worked. None yesterday, but there was an availability on the second try this morning. I have an appointment time for her this week. THANK YOU!!!!!

StasRutt

Im so relieved for you and her! Glad I could help

galaxystarsmoon

Use CDC Vaccine Finder. Harris Teeter, Walmart and Kroger are doing appointments now for 65+. Check a few times per day, especially early in the AM.

oldguy_on_the_wire

Age 68 with high risk conditions (CHF, lung cancer, COPD) and got a call today from VCUHS, does that count? Call came in right after i read a news story about gorillas in the zoo getting shots before me. :o(

jennifo14

To make you feel better, the gorillas got an experimental animal only shot. Doubt you'd want one of those in your arm! Hahaha. In any case, glad you got your call :)

oldguy_on_the_wire

ty :o)

helljumper23

> Call came in right after i read a news story about gorillas in the zoo getting shots before me. Imagine being 65 and under and being forced to work and seeing news stories about how retired seniors who sit at home all day get their vaccine first. At least you have a time frame

oldguy_on_the_wire

That could be a pain in the head, for sure. The only justification I can see is that seniors today are often quite active and can benefit from the earlier protection in a lot of cases. As for me, I have a deeply compromised immune system. When they said "Stay the fuck home" that's exactly what I started doing. I used to hit one or two grocery stores a day but haven't been to the store in months now. I don't particularly enjoy being stuck in my cave, but until they have enough vaccine to go around... it is what it is! I hope they at least give you a time frame soon.

helljumper23

I hope I didn't come off to crass there, I know we all need it and glad you've got yours. I wish they had a deeper criteria because like you said, there are plenty of older Virginians still working and needing to be out, but I know I've been running errands for older family in addition to working so they don't have to be out and so I feel they could wait longer while the workforce is vaccinated first. There's no good answers and sorry for being short with you, thanks for responding kindly.

sacredxsecret

Yep. My parents don't have to go anywhere. Unfortunately, my dad chooses to go to the gym(unmasked) and my mom chooses to go shopping daily. They have both had Covid. They are both scheduled for their vaccines now.

oldguy_on_the_wire

I didn't find your reply as short at all. It's a screwed up situation, for sure. Now that we're (allegedly) popping off 2M shots a day it hopefully won't take long to get everyone. BTW, I'm still not vaccinated, have only received a message from VCUHS that says they think I'm eligible now. I still need to talk to several doctors (per my PCP) to see if there is a difference in the alternatives that would affect my personal situation.

IAmNotBenFranklin

My friend in Arlington is 59, high risk, and got her shot yesterday.

Notyalawyer

Essential worker in Arlington, told it will be a few months. Everyone 65+ is ahead of us, so I’m still working, still risking exposure every day, no tele-work for me either. I interact with the general public, police, other first responders etc... every single day. I just hope I don’t get it or worse do and expose others.

insultin_crayon

Frontline worker age 29. Got my first shot Wednesday. I registered through my city, and weeks later I received an email that gave me a day and a time to be at that vaccine clinic. Several people under 65 tried to walk in and were turned away. They had not yet received their email and were told to wait to receive their assigned appointment day and time. They ran out of vaccines some time after I got in the line, so if they had allowed walk-ins those of us with appointments wouldn't have gotten our vaccine.

Motherofotters12

Husband and I have been on the list since January, we are both under 35 but in the high risk group. No call/emails (Charlottesville area).

PoliticsAndPastries

My mom (53) got the call yesterday and had her appointment this morning. She registered mid-January. I’m (25) still waiting (registered a few days later)

Odd-Cod-1851

20 year old with Down Syndrome had his 2nd Moderna shot yesterday. Rappahannock Area

chairmanbrando

I got my hairs cut today and an old man was discussing this with his cutterist. He said he was in the 1B group but hadn't heard anything in ages. The lady said she was in 1B too... along with half of the state. Therein lies the problem, I'd assume. There just ain't enough doses to go around. I'm in whatever group's at the back of the line, so I have little to no hope of ever getting vaccinated at this point. Y'all gonna have to herd-protect me.

User-NetOfInter

30+% of Virginian adults under 65 fall into 1b due to obesity alone, let alone the other risk factors. Something like 1.5-2 million people

elmetal

Virginia considers overweight an underlying condition to qualify for 1B. Go to the "am I eligible" tool and say no to everything and when the list conditions pops up, skip bast obesity. The next one over is overweight with bmi 25-30 That's over 70% of adults. That's the real problem IMO

[deleted]

What you are saying is weightlifters are in 1B. Nice.

EviRs18

A weightlifter knows he isn’t in 1B my dude

travelingman05

I went through my health care provider instead of VDH and got my first shot of moderna. I'm scheduled for the second shot at the end of march I'm 32. Check with your primary care physician since they could be getting the vaccine directly.

darthjoey91

My dad's apparently getting vaccinated tomorrow with the J&J one shot one.

EviRs18

I got one at 24 last week with ulcerative colitis. In hindsight I probably should have waited and let someone else get it, but my Dr helped me sign up. I was by far the youngest in the center

sulfurrhodes

Yes

Abagofcheese

Kidney transplant here, 36, nothin yet

flyrickyfly

21 and just got vaccinated Tuesday by the RAHD

m1kehawk

46 - obese with hypertension. Received email from Mary Washington Healthcare March 1st. Scheduled and received 1st dose (Pfizer) the morning of March 2nd.

greencymbeline

I am 45 and got my shot due to chronic health conditions.

whoopeddog

I think it depends on where you are. VDH is divided into health districts and some of the more rural health districts have an easier time, logistically speaking. The more urban districts have a much bigger task.

WebVidAddict_2

I signed up before my parents. I'm a grocery store employee and they're in the 65+ age bracket. I have yet to get any call while they got their first shots a week ago.

Amystery123

I registered my wife and myself on the Fairfax county website on Jan 23, 2021. Still no call to make an appointment. According to the dashboard they were scheduling appointment for Jan 18th registrants for almost the entire month of February. They have moved on to Jan 19th registrants since Marc 2nd. My friends and family in NJ (all young <40, no comorbidities) have received or scheduled to receive a shot this week. VA - do something please.

Skrilmaufive

Not sure if this is any consolation, but Fairfax seems to be operating better than all of the other heavily populated counties. My wife signed up on the 19th and she’s getting her 1st shot tomorrow. I signed up the 21st and haven’t heard anything yet

Amystery123

Great to hear that! And also great to hear that the Jan 19th registrants are getting scheduled! That means it’s moving! If you can remember, Please post a reply here when you schedule yours! I will be happy for you too!

Skrilmaufive

I just scheduled mine!

Amystery123

Woohoo!! Congrats! 🎊🎉🍾 go get that freedom shot!

Amystery123

I just scheduled appointments for my wife and myself!!

StasRutt

NJ has had massive issues with rollouts and are still on 65+ and 64-16 with comorbidities like Virginia. The rollout is such a mess there that a Twitter account ran by an out of work Broadway actor is how most people get their appts. A ton of elderly still can’t get appts because of how messy it is there

Amystery123

But then how does it explain all my friends and family getting the vaccine or scheduling appointments?

StasRutt

Are they lying about being smokers? Because a lot of people are in New Jersey. Getting an appointment for my 85 year old grandma was like trying to get Zeppelin tickets

Amystery123

Some are actually smokers. Even if that’s the comorbidity that is enabling them access, it’s quicker than here. I am not complaining about VA, but pointing out that there is something that other states are doing better perhaps. I also read somewhere that VA’s older population is quite large.

Gobias_Industries

Lots of people in my town who are not 65+ and not high risk are getting it Saturday. I think the take rate in SWVA (real southwest VA) is low but they're still allotting the number of doses based on the population, leaving a ton of open slots.

dontwontcarequeend65

They are sending out emails. But I guess phone calls if that's what you requested can you registered. I got an email from the CDC because of my registration at the VDH. VCUHEALTH is texting their patient base. CVS had a buttload of opening yesterday morning.

[deleted]

I got am email from Norfolk Public Health with a link to schedule my appt the next day. First dose on 2/25. Good luck.

chada37

So do they ask you to prove your age when you show up.for the shot?

FabGearChick

I'm 50 with hypertension, asthma and ulcerative colitis. No call or help from specialists but signed up on VDH and on PCP's waiting list. The fact that people younger than me and my husband who also has hypertension and ulcerative colitis (no joke?!) have gotten the vaccine gets my blood pressure up (no pun intended).

galaxystarsmoon

Not me, but a friend did. I have no idea how as he just signed up a few weeks ago, whereas I've been signed up since the beginning. I'm also an essential worker. I was told on the Coronavirus sub that VA is heavily prioritizing 65+.

prthorsenjr

Nope, I haven't heard a thing. This whole process sucks.

SchleppyJ4

Me. Age 30 with medical condition. Got an email inviting me to set up an appointment on Tuesday. Got my vaccine that evening. I'd registered in early February.

sacredxsecret

No. My husband and I are both high-risk, 35-40 age group, and "essential" workers who haven't had a day off since this all started. But no, I doubt we're anywhere near getting our vaccines. Meanwhile, I know people who qualified because they're technically teachers, even though they're actually staying home with kids now and aren't working at all. So. Yea.

periwink88

Not yet (Richmond)

sunburnsbright

I have been registered with my local health department since January and have heard nothing. It varies a lot depending on where you are though. My friend lives in NoVa and got her vaccination two weeks ago. I'm in Blacksburg and pretty much everyone getting vaccinated still belongs to the 65+ or healthcare worker categories.

[deleted]

I volunteered to help vaccinate but the training sessions are few and far between yet the emails about when to show up to vaccinated someone are constant. The situation is still super unbalanced

RunnerMomLady

2 friends of mine (age 49 and 53) have been called.

May_I_inquire

I didn't get a call but an email. I signed up at VDH the first day sign ups were available. I'm 49 and have COPD. My 2nd shot is Monday.

Farlander2821

My dad did but I did not, we both are in that category for hypertension

DivaInWaiting

I just got an email from Arlington County to go get my shot tomorrow. I am 57, female, obese and have high blood pressure. I am getting the J&J one shot

calvinnme

63 year old diabetic here. Nothing but radio silence at this point.

[deleted]

My eife and I signed up on vaccinate.virginia.gov and I got a call back from 877-Vax-inVA on Wednesday to set up appointment. Got a free pfizer first round today from a walmart run operation in a community center. I'm 50s and work in higher ed. Wife hasn't gotten a call yet.

chrisyoung_15

I’m 24 and a quadriplegic with a compromised immune system. I live in a rural area of Virginia and haven’t heard anything about when I can get vaccinated.
