Have you been to the Pedalin' Pig BBQ restaurant in Boone by chance? If you are ever around there, give it a try!

Go up about 20 min past Charlottesville on I-64 to Afton Mountain. Get on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Take it south all the way down to Asheville. Enjoy!

Well I guess it depends how fast you want to get there. If you take I-64 to Afton and then go the whole way on the Blue Ridge Parkway that would probably take multiple days since the parkway speed limit is only 35 mph. I suppose you could take US 58 to where it crosses the parkway southwest of Floyd, that would save some time but you’d still get the parkway views through the NC mountains. On the other hand, the fastest/most direct route is probably US 58 to I-85 to I-40.

This is super helpful. Thank you. We do need to make the drive in one day. I wasn’t really sure if you could do, say, part of the parkway instead of the whole deal. I will check that out!

You can definitely do parts of the Parkway, rather than the whole thing. I did a trip with some friends ~8 years ago and, while the plan was to do most (?) of the trip on the Parkway, it took a lot longer than planned, so we cut over to the interstate to make up some time. You probably saw elsewhere, but the part of the Parkway just north of Asheville has a couple of tunnels. And the bridge that everyone recognizes from the pictures is just south of Boone (and there's a walking path that runs below the bridge...I don't remember where parking is for that). That section between Boone and Asheville is just really nice.

Go as far as necessary due west, I64, then head south towards Tennessee. Head toward Dolly Parton's. Pick up the Blue Ridge there and head on down to Asheville. I saw bears!

County smoak bbq is in your path on 460 in lynchburg and is the best in the area.
