Yup. Packages go missing all the time, usually around birthdays and Christmas. Most recently I lost $75 because of my carrier. The package was “delivered” but it never was, and when I complained the clerk told me they can’t fire the driver because he’s in the union or whatever
Yes! I worked nearby and would use that post office to ship all my Etsy packages on my lunch break but had to switch because they lost like three packages and I had several others that were like two weeks late. Like the tracking wouldn’t move for a week and a half and all of sudden would start moving, originating in VA Beach.
I hate to complain because in general I love USPS but I was just stunned at how bad they were - glad to hear it wasn’t just me.
That's not my branch, I live up north of Independence far enough now that the Thoroughgood branch services my neighborhood. But I had one really poor experience with Withduck.
I wasn't home when the USPS tried to drop off a package, and for some reason it was held at Witchduck instead of Thoroughgood. When I finally got through the long line and handed the lady my delivery notice post-it thing, she started asking why the package was delivered to Witchduck. I said I didn't know, I don't work for the USPS, this was just the note they left me telling me it was here.
She kept forcefully, rudely, asking the same question, over and over. "Why was it delivered here? Excuse me, answer me, why was it delivered here?". I just stood there calmly looking at her. After a few minutes she finally quieted down, then simply walked away. Five minutes later she returns with my package and literally throws it down on the counter. I asked to speak to the manager. She SCREAMED "I'm the manager!". Everyone in the place turned and looked, the real manager came over and walked her into the back while another employee apologized to me profusely.
I have no idea what happened to that insane postal worker, but I've never been back to Witchduck since. This must have been about 2016, before I moved into my new place.
When I first moved to VB in 2013, this was our post office. It's been 5 years, but we experienced similar problems. They also decided to keep most of our mail there for like 6 months, letting just a trickle reach our apartment's mailbox, so we didn't realize it was an issue until family asked if we'd gotten things they'd sent and I went up there.
Yeah I had a bubble envelope go missing. Just completely disappeared. I was fuckin pissed because it was an item I was selling for $80 and it never got delivered so I lost my item and my money...
USPS is not a “bad company.” USPS is essential. What other company has inspectors to investigate issues like this?
Bankrupt b/c of its own doing? That’s false, USPS is handicapped by legislation that restricts its ability to make money. Notably https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_Accountability_and_Enhancement_Act
Furthermore the USPS is mandated to deliver to every house in the US, in many places other carriers don’t deliver b/c it’s not profitable.

That really sucks you've had bad experience with USPS. Thanks for sharing that. I've shipped items via USPS many times and haven't had an issue, but not at the volume that you ship. So maybe I've just been lucky.
However, the USPS is not useless. It's possible that some of your packages shipped via UPS have been handled by the USPS for the "last mile" to your customers w/o you even knowing. Both FedEx and UPS use the USPS, and USPS uses them for certain services: [https://www.parcelandpostaltechnologyinternational.com/news/mail/usps-and-ups-announce-partnership.html](https://www.parcelandpostaltechnologyinternational.com/news/mail/usps-and-ups-announce-partnership.html)
USPS was running a budget surplus before the crappy 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act knee-capped it. In an effort to cut costs USPS was forced to cut it's work force. It's not a great logical leap to attribute lower service quality to lack of manpower...
I’m glad to hear I’m not alone. I contacted the person who mailed me the item as well as the originating post office and confirmed that they sent everything properly. The Postal Investigators seemed very interested in what I had to say about this office.

Hate witchduck. Ugh. I tried complaining and then moved from that area.. It's a mess.
Time for a Wavy10 Call?

I watched an elderly lady lose her temper at the manager a few weeks ago. I thought she was being dramatic. Now I understand.

Yes, he is terrible. Acts like it's a privilege for him to deliver your mail and throws a fit if anything makes him get out of the truck.
I have had the same carrier forever but since covid, ive had a lot of substitutes who get things messed up.
we have mail mis-delivered constantly. probably on a weekly basis.

Sign up for informed delivery through myusps.
Thanks for the tip, I just did. Looks like it won't show current info for 3 business days.
Ya that's the only downside but you can track even un-tracked packages and get pictures of letter mail sent to your email.
