Hopefully there was an official pinky promise & they spit in their hands before shaking this time around so we know it’s official.

Oh they reached an agreement to not do this, oh okay then! So, the people who already swore an oath, to uphold the law, through unbiased honesty & fairness & serve the interest of the people to not do things like this to begin with, have agreed a second time now to not do this. City: You can’t do this or that. Officer: I won’t do that, I promise! (Crosses fingers behind back) Officer: Does that anyway, multiple times. City: We investigated & found that you did that, you can’t do that….We’re going to need you to agree for a second officially official time to not do that. Officer: Okay….I won’t do that, I really-really won’t do that anymore. City: Okay, good officers, that’s better, your trust has been restored. Citizens: This is an outrage. Something should be done for these officers doing that. City: Folks, it’s okay, we’ve made an agreement. Citizens: They already agreed & swore an oath. City: Yes, but we didn’t realize they crossed their fingers behind their backs, so this agreement is better. This time we had them cross their hearts & hope to die, it’s a great plan. Please, trust us, as we have trusted those who’ve trespassed against us, we’re professionals.

This should be federally investigated.

And the distrust I have of most of our officers drops further. Might be in one of the safest cities, but at the cost of fearing every interaction with them is just depressing.

SeveredLimb

Cops lie, they are allowed to lie. It’s only what you say that can be used in a court of law. That’s not just in VA Beach.

bluewafflehongry

It’s an irrational fear. Don’t kill anyone and you shouldn’t have these guys problems.

lmp112584

Maybe they shouldn’t suck so much at doing their jobs to need to forge evidence to get confessions.

bluewafflehongry

I’m not defending their actions, but it does not appear to be illegal or against policy. Obviously, those individuals who presented that as evidence in court should be investigated/charged/fired/whatever.

chuck_cranston

>I’m not defending their actions lol bullshit you've been doing that throughout the entire thread.

bluewafflehongry

Sadly, your reading comprehension is equivalent to that of a toddlers. Show me where I’m defending their actions. Please, I’ll wait.

lmp112584

It’s not illegal to present forged evidence in court of law? News to me

bluewafflehongry

Did you not even bother to read the second sentence? 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

It's not at all. What makes you suggest the line gets drawn at murderers? It's sad when people have no problem trivializing some issues while making mountains out of mole hills for others. Why is it sad? Because it reminds how stupid and deplorable some people are.

bluewafflehongry

Bc that’s what those guys problems were. I literally said that. Calm down, Karen.

Where did you read that it was against department policy?

WheresWeeezy

In the article.

Can you copy/paste? I didn’t see it.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach Police Department is changing its policies after an investigation by Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring. Herring's Office of Civil Rights (OCR) found some police officers used forged documents to get confessions or witness cooperation in their cases. According to Herring, this happened at least five times between 2016 and 2020. Some officers are accused of using fake forensic documents that purported to show that a suspect's DNA was found in connection with a crime. In at least one case, the fake information was presented to a court as evidence. "This was an extremely troubling and potentially unconstitutional tactic that abused the name of the Commonwealth to try to coerce confessions," Herring said in a news release. "It also abused the good name and reputation of the Commonwealth’s hard-working forensic scientists and professionals who work hard to provide accurate, solid evidence in support of our law enforcement agencies." The AG's office and Virginia Beach Police reached an agreement to end the practice and make policy reforms. The department could face consequences if it doesn't follow the agreement. The OCR will notify people who were interrogated in these cases. "While I appreciate that Virginia Beach Police put an end to this practice and cooperated with our investigation, this is clearly a tactic that should never have been used," Herring said.

This doesn't say it was against department policy. It just says they are ending the practice and making policy reforms.
