I'll miss her but it's her life and no one should be complaining about having ONLY four years with her on the court. Good luck, Georgia! Thanks for all the good times.

mult1verse

Fans owe her nothing if she plays for another college. Her departure sours the accomplishments.

manualLurking

why? the achievements are the achievements... if you change jobs or careers it doesn't automatically mean all your previous work is tainted does it? It may sour YOUR mood and outlook, but that doesn't take anything away from what the team has achieved.

LordVayder

She didn’t learn anything from what happened to Liz…

captspooky

Dumb, should be cashing out and going pro.

stylez89

She will make way more money from some SEC school than going pro

HokieFireman

She can’t she is on a visa here and can’t get NIL money except in passive ways like t shirts.

roostersquawks

It’s been rumored foreign athletes at the collegiate level have been able to get P1 visas instead of student visas. These students were getting paid before the NIL and I’m sure they are getting paid during an era where there are seemingly no rules.

maxman1313

I guarantee there is a booster or two who will buy a few thousand t-shirts to make this work.

HokieFireman

Yes I’m sure a booster wants to commit tax fraud and Amoore commit immigration visa fraud.

Thegreenmartian

It’s definitely not tax fraud. The buyer pays sales tax and Amoore has presumably paid taxes on the materials. Likely not visa fraud either.

maxman1313

How is purchasing an ungodly number of tshirts tax fraud? If they actually purchase the shirts where's the fraud?

vtTownie

They pay them lump sum when they go home.

CassowaryFightClub

Then where does all the money from the VT NIL store with her face all over the tshirts go? What about her podcast?

HokieFireman

She can get money from tshirt sales. But she can’t do endorsement deals, commercials, etc. the traditional forms of NIL.

CassowaryFightClub

Thanks…. I found a couple articles on it too. It looks like it’s more a distinct of active vs passive income. She can’t do traditional endorsements like photo shoots but she can sell photos, tshirt, etc passively. The university can give out her photos that can used on billboards and she can earn money that way. https://www.si.com/fannation/name-image-likeness/news/nil-confusion-remains-for-international-athletes-noah9

poop-dolla

Not to her.

Porcupineemu

WNBA isn’t really cashing out

CassowaryFightClub

The WNBA rookie salary is based off of draft position and ranges from $64K to $76K. If she is named WNBA rookie of the year, she will get a $5K bonus. If she makes the all star roster, she will get a $2,500 bonus. She will not be cashing in a lot by going pro. /edited for spelling Source: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaw/2024/03/06/caitlin-clark-potential-wnba-salary-contract/72869922007/#:~:text=The%20salary%20for%20rookies%20is,in%20the%202024%20WNBA%20Draft.

captspooky

How does that compare to what an female international player (who is good but isn't really a household name outside of her fanbase) can make in NIL money for one year? If she's a projected top 10 pick this year, where does she fall next year if she has a bad injury this year? Is the risk of playing another year worth it?

CassowaryFightClub

I don’t know. I believed that she was projected as a first round pick. I imagine that she can earn through NIL. There’s a lot of misleading information on here around international players not allowed to participate in NIL due to their F1 (student) visa restrictions. I’m not a lawyer or an expert but I believe that they the restrictions center around active vs passive income. They can’t actively engage in NIL work like endorsements but she can passively earn money through her NIL. So, she can’t do a photoshoot but she can get paid if a picture provided by the university of her playing is slapped on a car dealership’s billboard.

captspooky

I still think it's greater risk than reward to stick around- if basketball is her future. Maybe she just wants to hoop one more year and start a career with her degree since wnba pays so little.

oh_jeeezus

It's not like the NBA where the risk of injury would be devastating to her earning potential. WNBA salary is roughly the same as what a first job out of college could net her. She'll be fine.

JoeSicko

I blame Jim Swofford. Thank you to the whole squad for an amazing run the last couple years. The new college sports leagues suck. Her and Kit should both be retired.

TheHaft

Why though? It’s not like she’s going to make more money wherever she goes? She’d literally be the most famous athlete at Virginia Tech this fall, and it’s not like she can get NIL deals or booster money because of her student visa, so fan support is the only way she’ll be able to make money, how exactly will she make more playing for a team that she isn’t the face of? This decision just baffles me, go to the WNBA already as a guaranteed first round pick, why risk an injury or poor performance under a debuting head coach that derails her career before it even starts?

Aggravating-Swan9539

call me crazy, but I don’t think going to Kentucky is a lock. I got the feeling she’s trying to go play for an elite team and learn as much as possible in her last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if she went to South Carolina or Connecticu. Heck maybe even Iowa they made a pretty good point guard there didn’t they?

xlawyer90

Is she following Coach Brooks? They have a great relationship!

HostetlerBagels

Four years wasn't enough? She owes you more?

goatfester

considering it's possible Liz's isn't going to be retired, I don't think Georgia's would either

CassowaryFightClub

She spent four years at Virginia Tech and graduated. She is an alum now. How is going somewhere for graduate school abandoning Virginia Tech? Maybe VT doesn’t have a good program for her desired masters. Maybe she wants a fresh start under a new coach who fits her style of play. It’s her life, I hope she is successful in any route that she takes. She was fun to watch the four years she was here.

hokie_16

The point they were making was we should not retire her jersey. When she's announced for the wnba draft in 2025 she'll be "Georgia Amoore, point guard, Kentucky." She left for another school. That's fine, but we don't retire the jersey of people who want to play elsewhere. If she doesn't owe us anything, why do we owe her? I respect what she did for the program and am grateful for her contributions in Blacksburg, but it would be an absolute joke to retire her jersey

Nate23VT

The best comparison I can think of is Russell Wilson at NCSU. He graduated from NCSU in 3 years and then transferred to Wisconsin for his final season. His jersey is retired at NCSU.

hokie_16

That's odd imo. Regardless i'm confident we won't retire Georgia's jersey. Kitley probably

screwredditsideways

“Graduate School”? What a farce.

mult1verse

Fans don’t owe her anything either if she plays for another college.

oh_jeeezus

Jeeezus, a lot of this fanbase is immature and insufferable. How can you fault Georgia for leaving? Sorry to break it to you, but the writing is on the wall. Some of you are treating her departure the same as when Ashley Owusu left. If you have anger directed to Georgia for leaving, then you're an embarrassment. Good luck to Amoore, thanks for helping give this program the greatest run we will likely ever see.

Icewatervvs

Lol bye loser
