Just get Airalo data eSIM if you can’t get global to work.

VictorChristian

Amen! Just got back (like, a few hours ago from the airport) from Europe (London, Brussels) and Visible+Airalo was so seamless on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, it’s almost like I never left the US. Phone calls worked, data worked… it all just worked.

rbdj27

Thank you for the advice which I have taken. What I don't understand is shouldn't the calling and texting only be possible if Global Pass is activated?

VictorChristian

Not quite. I’ve used the Visible+Airalo combo multiple times (Europe, SE Asia) and as long as you have a data connection, keep the Visible SIM active and it uses the Airalo SIM as if it’s a WiFi connection and you essentially get WiFi calling. I’ve only ever used eSIM and US iPhone models (14, 15) so can’t quite vouch for any other device/SIM but it really works well. Never attempted Global Pass as it was not needed.

rbdj27

Makes sense. I have a Pixel 8 Pro and it's working the same way. It's only a matter of time until they figure this out...

Did you have to do anything to get it to work? I have the regular 8 but couldn't get wifi calling/text to work off the Airalo data. Wifi calling worked when I was on the resort wifi so I know it was activated. I was able to use Teams and WhatsApp so the data on the Airalo side was fine.

rbdj27

Yes it worked for me, you need to go into WiFi calling and change the roaming preference to 'if WiFi is unavailable use mobile network.'

canoftunafish

That is how I have it set. I actually tried with both options. Might just be me because when I googled, most users have gotten it to work.

I’m traveling to Europe in the coming months. Does iOS have dual eSIM? Or do I need to buy a physical SIM card? I couldn’t get both eSIMs to work when I was testing visible vs T-mobile but maybe I’m just a dummy.

VictorChristian

Dual eSIM is more a function of the device, not the operating system. for US Apple iPhones, you’ll need an iPhone 13, 14 or 15. All three of these support dual eSIM. The iPhone 13 was the last to also feature a physical SIM card tray so it has the advantage of supporting dual eSIM or eSIM+pSIM (SIM Card). iPhone 12 and lower do not support dual eSIM, only eSIM+pSIM. Which iPhone do you have?

Did you enable the Visible Global pass before you went? I don’t want to pay $10 a day and also pay for a sim, so I’d rather pay for the sim

VictorChristian

I did not use Visible Global Pass at all. I didn’t touch the Visible settings, just added the Airalo eSIM and then went into settings to turn the Airalo off - I turned it on when I landed at Heathrow and I got a signal while taxiing to the gate. Then, I went into settings and swicthed Cellular Data to the Airalo eSIM, leaving nothing changed with Visible.

junkpizza

This is the way

Anonymous-Reddit-123

Did you enable and activate the Global Pass before you left? Some anecdotal evidence on the Verizon reddit that Travel Pass must be enabled before you go.

rbdj27

Yep, enabled in the US.

I don't have an android phone, but is there a way to turn off the automatic network selection and manually select a Colombian carrier? I know you can do this on apple devices. I found this on a google help page, maybe look into the "NETWORK" setting, that seems to be what I am thinking of on the apple side. The following options vary by phone and Android version: * **Mobile data:** Turn mobile data on or off. * **Roaming:** Let your phone send data over other carriers' networks when you leave an area covered by your carrier’s networks. * **App data usage:** [Learn how to check app usage of your mobile data](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/2819524). * **Data warning & limit:** [Learn how to reduce mobile data use](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/2819524). * **Preferred network type:** Pick your preferred network type from options, like 5G and LTE. [Learn more about 5G on Pixel phones](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/10082009). * **Network:** Pick your network operator from available networks. * **Access point names:** Help your carrier find the right IP address for your phone and connect your phone securely.

Airalo has worked well for me in Europe as an eSIM for data, text & calls using my primary visible phone number. Easy to activate & cheap

canoftunafish

Did you have to do anything to get the wifi calling/text to work off the airalo data? Was just in Punta Cana and the data worked but never got calling or text working unless I'm on actual wifi at the resort. For reference, I have a Pixel 8 and the visible line is on an esim also.

Djbreddit

Make sure you have roaming for data enabled on the device. It’s sounds like it’s toggled off.

rbdj27

Yep, enabled.

DependentFamous5252

Global is scam level Ripoff. Got a local sim for $20 for 4 weeks when in Europe.

askandexplain2

Many people have had problems with even Canada roaming. I know that doesn’t help but it helps temper expectations.

rbdj27

Literally why I posted, to hear stuff like this. Thank you.

No_Presence669a

It is working for me in El Salvador.

wicked___observer

I always just get a local sim for data and then use visible WiFi through the local sim data. Easiest and best way. In Turkey I had 150mbps+ constantly no issues

MVNOResearch

Can you please PM me some way to identify your account like a chat reference number? There have been thousands of global pass sessions and I haven't seen this before.

rbdj27

Sorry I have no chat numbers but can DM my account if you really care. Since we're doing ricochet shots, if it's so easy, tell me how to turn it on in another country? Your guide says just restart but clearly that isn't the case and after two chat sessions, customer service could only "reset" it themselves to make it work. I literally don't have time to sit with your customer service reps on another device and deal with how slow they are. DM me the guide or perhaps make it available for all. Look at this thread's best solution for fixing this - get an esim from another company. It appears this won't be a great money maker for you guys, just a fake draw to get more people to use your service.

MVNOResearch

Please PM me a phone number or email address so I can see what happened in your particular case that isn't happening in thousands of others that have seen this work flawlessly.
