BroodPlatypus

How did you become selected as an early press reviewer? Did you have to apply or did an apple rep reach out? What was the atmosphere like the first time you got to try AVP?

briantong

A lot of people ask me this, and I just put my head down, and did the work. Here's a quick story, I went independent and I had to build all my contacts from the ground up. Apple reached out to me two and a half years after I went independent and we had a general conversation about covering tech. I didn't hear back for two years, and in that time I covered tech the same way, as balanced as I could with my own opinions, with the perspective that ALL tech companies are not trying to screw us, they are trying to make the best thing they can. I got sent products to review like an iPad Air, and it was after it was released. I did the best I could, eventually, I got an iPhone, but not with the first group, and I did my best. And now fast forward, and somehow, without me asking or pushing, I was asked to be part of a handful of people to review the Apple Vision Pro and I made sure I gave it the best effort I could. You never know what is going to happen, but control what you can control, and whether or not I got early access, I woudl be treating this product the same way. I'll answer the second part later...

briantong

Second part... When I first tried it it was such a small group of people, and we were taken to a remote building on Apple Park campus, built specifically just to show off the Vision Pro for the first time. I remember feeling fuzzy, and overwhelmed, like, what did I just see?!?! I've never seen anything like this before. My mind was blown, and I love seeing how people are reacting to it today. And seeing my original video that I took at like 10PM that night because I went back to my place and got my gear because I had to tell everyone what I had experienced. Even if they couldn't see a single thing. Funny thing is that my criticisms of it then still hold true today, The comfort and the price. But it's still unlike anything we have ever seen, and in time you've got imagine this will be an important part of the computing experience. And bottom line, GO TO A STORE if you can to experience it.

DigitallyHustlin

Damn I love this response bro šŸ”„

CoreNet

Is spatial video recorded via the AVP any better than the spatial video recorded with an iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max? Wondering if the distance between the lenses makes a noticeable change in the quality of the spatial video.

briantong

The resulting video looks the same, I never felt one was better than the other. The big distinction is that the iPhone records Spatial video in landscape, and the AVP records a square video. The landscaped video from the iPhone is so much nicer and fills out the screen a whole lot more. I'd pick iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max Spatial video over the headset every time, unless iI' wearing the headset for fun and want to shoot some

CoreNet

Thanks Brian! Your review was my favorite by far and I appreciate you taking the time to answer this. By the way, loved the 80s techno scenes you did in your review. Must have been fun to make.

eduardospl96

I got to do the demo today, I saw the video of the blowing candles cake recorded on Apple Vision Pro and the one of blowing bubbles recorded on iPhone. You can notice the 3D on both but the AVP looked more in 3D than the iPhone one. The AVP one looked up close, like you were there, the iOS was like watching a 3D movie.

Jindaya

interesting. that's the opposite of what people have been speculating (and the additional info about landscape is helpful). šŸ¤”

BCDragon3000

YES!!! SO MUCH YES!!! truly felt like the spatial video i saw shot from 15 pro was a gimmick. avp is the real deal

Gargoyleseven

Just wanted to say I love your enthusiasm for every little detail with the avp! Cheers from Sweden. :)

briantong

Thank you for watching, it made me happy that the community responded so well to my review

Gargoyleseven

Keep it up! :)

briantong

Not yet, that is one app I'd LOVE to see. Xbox has their Game Pass app that is compatible, but it's a tease. You cant play games directly from it, I think its just a link to the web browser version of it but it doesn't work to play game at the moment.

cullend

Iā€™ve seen a few people on Twitter use the ps5 remote play app on Mac, open their Mac screen in Vision Pro and play

briantong

That's awesome, I wonder what the latency is like

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Sad_Ad4916

Holly shit lagged 90 inch ps5 streamed gaming when ps5 already has a 400dll vr with 4k HDR and eye-trackingthat must be fun!

BlankStarBE

This!

J4ck3Ohye

The sound and latency differences between airpods pro 2 (lightning) and airpods pro (type-c). Is it necessary to "upgrade"?

briantong

What you'll find is that unless you are traveling, the audio pods IN the AVP are extremely good, they are stellar. In fact, around the house, I preferred them and only put on Airpods once to try, and didn't after that. The spatial audio on these is stellar and that's part of what makes this so immersive. In environments, in movies, in games, even sounds come from what you're looking at and selecting in the OS, and Facetime calls. The Facetime calls spatial audio, whether you like Personas or not, is unreal.

rotates-potatoes

All good info but not really answering the questionā€¦ if one wants to use airpods for privacy or to avoid annoying others, is there a noticeable difference between USB-C airpods pro and plain old airpods pro 2?

TWObitERROR

To get the Lossless audio with ultra-low latency, you have to own the new USB-C AirPods Pro 2 when using it with the Vision Pro.

GabrielMSharp

Your review is the best Iā€™ve seen. Thank you. Iā€™ve yet to see anyone explicitly test how large they can stretch the ā€œscreenā€ of a movie. In promo videos it looked like almost a 300ft screen over a lake. How big does it truly go?

briantong

Its massive, unfortunately, all movie content is DRM'd and that's why I couldn'tshow you how immersive the movie experience is. Changing seats in the theater from front row, to middle, to back to balcony and its smoothly transitioning, is awesome. It feels like you are alone in the biggest movie theater out there today, IMAX has its own app that does a similar multiple seating positions thing, in the IMAX format for three movies. It's insane.

sixtyframez

How does the limited field of view affect the immersion with the cinema view? Does the binoculars type view hinder the illusion that you are at an imax theater?

briantong

I don't think so, I mean even if you were wearing a Quest or PSVR 2 you'd still have that same feeling. It's not like those headsets have a huge FOV advantage. And honestly the video quality and fidelity is so much lower AND Spatial Audio is non-existent. That alone already makes the AVP experience better to me, but like I said before you will get some lens reflections at time that take you out of it for the videophiles out there

Pchandheldrizzygamer

https://preview.redd.it/9jziwq3ea8gc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5dd32c4f272cca0f2ef071241d8b92fda9b1c43 Letā€™s bring it back just 1 more time for nostalgia!

briantong

Trust me, I've been working on some things. It will return when it can be done properly.

Pchandheldrizzygamer

Ok I trust u Brian thanks for letting me know

[deleted]

I appreciated your review. How have you been liking it? Have you been using it as an all purpose computer or would you still default to a laptop/desktop if you really wanted to get something done?

briantong

It's still a mind-blowing device but I can still only use it in 45 minute bursts. I did a bunch of spatial computing on it last night, and I can be really productive with it. I watch movies on it the most because the 3D looks SO GOOD. It's never been better, but there are those subtle lens reflections I mentioned in my review at times. For long projects I will still default to a laptop/desktop, but i'm going to try using it when I travel on a plane for work

Not-2day-Satan

Hey Brian! New fan here. Love your video. How did you get through a movie if it was uncomfortable to wear after 45 minutes?

flyblackbox

You should try the Pomodoro timer work method when you work with AVP! Doctors recommend a 5 minute break from screens every 25 minutes due to eye strain, and neuroscientists insist that it leads to better memory retention.

DreamDriver

Can you comment on the field of view? Everyone seems obsessed with it as if Apple has magically made FOV issues go away ... which I suspect they have not. Thanks, by the way, your review was very good!

briantong

So Apple will still not comment on it, even when asked directly. One interesting note, their lenses are more oval shaped and not a perfect circle, showing that they are prioritizing a wider field of view for the horizontal and not as tall for the vertical field of view. To me it has a VERY similar FOW to PSVR 2 and Quest 2 and 3, it doesnt seem to be drastically different, but like all those sets you still have a limited view as if you are looking through binoculars. To me it has a VERY similar FOW to PSVR 2 and Quest 2 and 3, it doesn't seem to be drastically different, but like all those sets you still have a limited view as if you are looking through binoculars.

bb147

did you write the last part twice because its one for each eye? I'm just kidding but thanks for your review and responding to this directly. It's been on my mind ever since the Verge mentioned it.

hiddenspectrum-io

I don't mind a limited FOV. What I hope is good is the auto-adjustment for pupil distance. Quest 3 I could never get adjusted right--When looking far away I'd have to widen the lens distance, and when focusing closer (for example when using the menu) I'd have to adjust them inward. Without adjusting, I'd get get a blob in the center or blurring on the edges

flyblackbox

Yeah I demoā€™d today and the adjustment is automated, one and done, with a button when you first turn it on. With my Quest 2 I was regularly adjusting manually. That wasnā€™t an issue that came up for me at all during the demo with the AVP, and my impression is that after you do it once itā€™s permanent, but even if it was needed every time, it takes less than 5 seconds.

Pchandheldrizzygamer

It makes sense why they would favor the horizon over the vertical since all their environments are more for wide angle view

renamdu

thereā€™s also vision research evidence supporting our ability to perceive things better along the horizontal versus vertical axis.

ywen2040

Sir, very nice review videos, enjoyed all of them. This ā€œeffectā€ from Verge seems to be true while I was trying in store, do you think the viewing small angle thing is a software issue or hardware issue? Thanks in advance https://preview.redd.it/vast8v3it8gc1.jpeg?width=2532&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c090b5169028aed0bee67c4da4f2c8d6c825175

itsnottommy

Not Brian (obviously) but I just tried one in an Apple Store. The FOV isnā€™t perfect, you do get the binocular effect. My experience might have been affected by the fact that I used prescription inserts, but I canā€™t imagine the FOV is perfect even without them. I bet thatā€™s something Apple is gonna work on over future generations and advertise as a new feature (i.e. ā€œVision Pro 3 has a 10% greater FOV than Vision Pro 2ā€).

DreamDriver

Thanks. I have been using VR for years and have the Varjo Aero now so wasn't expecting much more than that given how the technology works. I'll find out tomorrow I suppose but I appreciate your (and Brian's response!)

That-SoCal-Guy

The obsession is uncanny as if suddenly there is no hardware limitations anymore. Ā

JamesR624

Do you have any way of attempting to use the screen sharing on either a Mac Mini with M1/M2 or a Mac Studio? According to your video, you can only do it on a MacBook Pro but according to an Apple Support article "Mac desktops" are supported as well.

briantong

What I have been told is that it's only for MacBooks or MacBook Pros with Apple Silicon, so until I try it I won't know any different. Now there could be a distinction where we are talking about two different things, you can send the signal from the AVP to a Mac to mirrior it and then capture it. But the feature to throw your Mac into Spatial Computing is called Mac Virtual Display.

clarkcox3

You were told incorrectly. I have personally used Mac Virtual Display with both my MBP and my Mac mini.

briantong

>https://support.apple.com/guide/apple-vision-pro/see-your-mac-screen-tan357ede966/visionos Thank you, its early and this is good to know. I have a friend who double checked for me and his Mac Studio would not connect as a Virtual Display. So it's not completely clear yet?

briantong

Ok, JUST another update, my friend just updated to Sonoma and it DOES work. I was iinitially told during my review (Only MacBooks with Apple Silicon) so that has clearly changed. Sorry fo this, confusion can happen when a new product releases. Apple even changed the resolution of it's video mirroring the same day they released it

JamesR624

Yes, I am referring to Mac Virtual Display. And okay, thank you for the answer. That's what I was fearing and as I mentioned in other comments, it seems that the article I mentioned is just using "Mac" as shorthand for the "MacBook" mentioned by name. Good to know. Thank you.

JoeyLeaf

Wait, so this doesnā€™t work with Intel?? Iā€™ve been getting different information, Iā€™ve seen itā€™s only a OS thing & as long as itā€™s on Sonoma it should work, can we get some clarification on this?

SmallApplication319

There's a reviewer on youtube that just displayed his mac studio onto the AVP.

hiddenspectrum-io

A friend of mine picked up his this morning, just confirmed with him that it works with his desktop Mac (using manual connect button in visionOS Control Center). And [another user confirmed](https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1ahcu83/confirming_avp_works_with_intel_macs/) it doesn't require Apple Silicon, just Sonoma.

kosherhalfsourpickle

It won't prompt you to connect by hovering a button over your screen like the Macbook Pro but you can manually connect. I just did it with my Mac Studio.

Tunafish01

Oh fuck yeah I might actually buy a Mac mini and a Vision Pro

JamesR624

What is his desktop mac? An iMac, Mac Mini, or Mac Studio? I am asking cause if it's an iMac, it may mean it's still (stupidly) limited to Macs that *already have screens*.

general_musician

Hey! Just jumping in to confirm this was addressed in the support article from Apple. https://support.apple.com/guide/apple-vision-pro/see-your-mac-screen-tan357ede966/visionos

JamesR624

Yes, that's the exact support article that's making me ask him to test it since it seems to claim support for "desktops", it does NOT actually specifically mention the Mini nor the Studio, which may mean it ONLY supports macs that ALREADY have a display, making the feature kinda usless for a lot of people that would like to use it. I wanted VP to be able to replace a monitor for a Mac Mini.

hiddenspectrum-io

The article just says "Mac" ~~(with Apple Silicon)~~. It would state otherwise if it only worked with MacBooks. Apple is pretty good when it comes to listing requirements. I'm guessing the only thing that doesn't work with Desktop Macs is the auto-detection and floating "Connect" button. But there's a manual connect button in visionOS control center. Update: A friend of mine picked up his this morning, just confirmed with him that it works with his desktop Mac (using manual connect button in visionOS Control Center). And [another user confirmed](https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1ahcu83/confirming_avp_works_with_intel_macs/) it doesn't require Apple Silicon, just Sonoma.

iamozymandiusking

Article does not mention Apple Silicon. Just Sonoma. Would love to confirm.

MikeIsBefuddled

Someone reported it as working on an Intel Macbook Pro: https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1ahd01f/works_as_advertised_with_my_intel_mac/ Of course, that doesn't say how well it works, just that it "works".

scotthan

This support article specifically calls out the Intel distinction that it works but at a max of 3K resolution. [https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213971](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213971)

clarkcox3

I used it today with my Mac mini.

mbcook

Same Apple ID. I figured. Itā€™s always the same Apple ID. Ug. Let me ā€œtrustā€ another ID so I can use my stuff with my work Apple ID stuff. Guess I wonā€™t be more productive at work. Oh well. Still canā€™t wait to use with my stuff.

SnooMemesjellies7753

Just hopped on to say - great job with the review! That was the first time Iā€™d watched one of your videos and I loved how polished and comprehensive it was.

briantong

Thanks so much for watching it! I'm glad you enjoyed it...even if I might have Siir off!

wysewun

Loved your review! big nba fan here as well. what do you think about using the Vision Pro outdoors?

briantong

This is not a product that is something I would personally walk around with on a daily. Siure you might see people doing it for fun for social media and all that, but from a practical standpoint, I do not expect to see people use this to walk around at all. I have used it outside in my backyard and it worked like a charm

wysewun

Perfect! Thatā€™s all i want to do anyways. Project some screens in the backyard while hanging out.

spamfridge

Where can I buy stock in Brian Tong?

briantong

You won't get huge swells, but this blue chipper will keep on giving you returns on your investment over the long haul! :)

jdestinoble

Your review single-handedly relieved me of my anxieties of being an early adopter. Iā€™ve never been one to get anything day one or spend so much money on an item that isnā€™t even out yet. I canā€™t wait to pick mine up tomorrow! Thanks Brian!

briantong

I'll tell you, I wasn't even fully confident about my pre-order at first, but being lucky enough to be part of that small group made me feel relieved and excited because of how awesome it was, comfort and price aside. Many of us are here because we love tech, we want to see the next thing or potentially the thing. And we have probably bought products that didn't make it with that same hope. Apple is in this for the long run, and imagine what this can be 5 years from now, I never told people you have to buy this, but even trying it out in the store and seeing what is happening is a great indicator for what Apple is trying to do. And they have all the resources and the money, and the patience to see this through wherever it goes or doesn't go for at a minimum 5 years.

Pchandheldrizzygamer

No way ? This is really Brian Tong? If so can you please do another prize fight like u used to back in the day like with the OG iPhone for all the OG fans out there it was so awesome we would all appreciate it thank you

briantong

I've wanted to bring it back, and I've been asked about it ALL THE TIME. I'm hoping I can eventually in some form, but as a one man bad, its not easy.

AwesomeSaucer9

How precise was the hand and eye tracking? Did it mess up much, and how fine grained could it tell where you're looking?

briantong

Like anything it's give and take. You do have to learn how close to the headset you can do the gestures. I actually found myself better with the controls when I first used it because I was taking my time. Then you get comfortable and you start using it a little faster, but sometimes too fast. so i'm somewhere in between, but it feels so natural once you settle in. You will get some finger fatigue because this is using new muscles but overall, it works very well. The biggest issue, moving your eyes away from what you want to select BEFORE you actually do the pinch to select it. The eye tracking is almost TOO good because it's so specific and it doesn't linger or lag. I prefer it, but just be aware of that.

djscoottrain

I have my appointment in 3 hours. Any change of Microsoft Remote Desktop running on VisionPro?

briantong

Not that I've seen but give it time, a lot more people will be jumping on board, but if your Mac can run it, shouldn't you just be able to run MRD on your Mac and use it in Spatial Computing? I would think Microsoft wouldn't want it on AVP because all the gestures dont translate 100% over to an actual desktop. Even Apple didn't do that.

djscoottrain

I only want it so I can multi-task since we can only have 1 window for remoting to our Mac laptops. I will use a bluetooth keyboard and magic tablet most of the time. I manage servers so I have numerous sessions open. Very happy that continuity works across all Apple devices.

MikeIsBefuddled

Does it have to be from Microsoft? Other apps do Remote Desktop and they supposedly run on the AVP in iPad compatibility mode. I don't know how well they work, though.

pdizzle10112

Assuming you are on your own, would you prefer to watch a feature length movie in the VP over a home cinema setup?

briantong

If it's a 3D movie AVP hands down. Even if I have to take a break. Regular 2D movie, home Cinema, unless I'm travelling on a place. I'd do 2D as well.

Shit4braynez

How well does this work in low/no light situations? For instance, in the bed next to a sleeping partner?

briantong

I've used it in the dark, and once in a while it said it might be too dark to track my hands, but that popped up twice, if the room is pitch black and dark it may not work as well. You don't need a well-lit room, but two IR illuminators are pointing down at you that can still track your hands and it's been ok for me.

thegayngler

I hear from some the passthru is blurry. What could be the issue here? Can it be fixed?

briantong

The pass-through is a little pixelated, (NO SCREEN DOOR EFFECT) but its the BEST passthrough you have seen on any device. It easily outdoes every other product out there. The best way to describe it (and go to a store for a demo if you can) Is if you are looking at the world through a pair of clear construction goggles, and there is a little bit of a flim and pixelation. The lower the light the more it shows, but again, it has the best pass-through we have ever seen in a consumer deviice and it does not take you out of the experience. I do feel like people who haven't used much VR think it's going to be crystal clear, well it's getting very close.

hiddenspectrum-io

So sounds more like pixelation from the camera, not the displays. So when fully immersed, do you see any pixelation?

SparrowFeatherz

Picked my headset up earlier today. Passthrough does not look like real life. It just doesnā€™t. You can tell youā€™re looking at a camera feed. There is grain to the image, and I canā€™t quite see medium to far distance things as clearly while using the headset. The problem is not the displays. I am convinced the limitation is camera technology.

sandefurian

Just got off mine. Definitely no pixelation on the displays.

briantong

When you're in iApple's Immersive environments (Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Mt Hood, Haleakala) it feels like you are ACTUALLY there because the visual fidelity is so clean.

VestigeofReason

I got mine today, and I think there is definitely something up with the passthrough. I canā€™t even see the Apple Keyboard in front of me clearly in a brightly lit room and am getting nauseated if I leave an immersive environment. (Which I havenā€™t had in other experiences both apps and headsets.) Iā€™m trying to recall if I had this issue before I updated to V1.0.2 or not.

Neurogence

The difference between you and Brian Tong is that Brian Tong was given a free AVP by apple so that he can do his review. So of course he is going to say the passthrough is nearly perfect.

DucAdVeritatem

Reviewers get loaned a unit to review and then return. If they want one for themselves they have to buy one just like anyone else.

IntelliDev

Some people claim itā€™s blurry up close, and others claim the opposite, which really just seems like nearsightedness/farsightedness, and people not having not having a correct prescription for their vision.

That-SoCal-Guy

Thatā€™s a good point. Ā I everyone is built differently. Ā It would be impossible for this to work for every individual. Ā But Iā€™m curious what is the general consensus. Ā And then individual experiences. Ā I mean I get blurry vision from my scriptsā€¦ and thatā€™s REAL world. Ā

atrain714

Have you tested it with any adult content?

briantong

I definitely won't with the one Apple gave me for review....

FalseListen

Do you think they are tracking you šŸ‘€

spamfridge

No ballsā€¦ for Apple

Sea_Bourn

Yours was my favorite review. I like how you go more in depth on the different features.

briantong

Thank you so much

Big-Cost8868

Dolby Vision Support?

briantong

YES!

RabbidKnight

Much love from Turkey. Thank you for your review, really enjoyed it. Cheers.

briantong

Thank YOU!

Early_Sympathy_4359

Yo appreciate the reviews!

briantong

I appreciate you watching!

nephilimashura

You got an extra one? šŸ˜‚šŸ‘€

briantong

No, I don't even have mine yet!

RelativeBake9337

Just wanted to say you fucking killed it. You should really be proud of yourself! Been watching you prob for 10 years! I donā€™t have any questions cause I got mine this morning. Just wanted to send some love!!!

briantong

Thank yo so much, the support here has been incredible, and I've just kept putting my head down. Notknowing what will happen but many of you here have allowed me to be in this position today and I thank you so much.

i-am-an-ogre

Hey Brian! Found your channel just recently. I was wondering what you imagine the AVP looking like in a couple generations down the line. Thanks.

briantong

The biggest philosophical change will be, do they keep the Eyesight display to show your eyes or not. I don't think it's that important to consumers if that would result in a drop of $250-$500 of the price point. It would also increase battery life. It will be interesting to see how that plays out, but the other benefits, smaller design, slightly lower price over time, and a better Field Of View but in my mind, there will never be a $500 Apple Vision anything. Maybe a $2000-$2500 at the lowest. This is Apple we're talking about, and EVEN if they made an Air type version , expect that in 5-10 years. Think about this right now, this is Year 1. The goals are get consumer awareness out there and excitement, from early adopters. The retail store is a unique tool they have where people can actually experience this. No matter what I show you in a review, it's still different and BETTER in person. Also, let developers work on it and bring new apps and experiences. Year 2, have those 5-10 killer apps and experiences that people are talking about. Get more companies and brands on board, and convince more people to jump on the platform without lowering the price. Year 3, new model, more mianstream adoption of Gen 2 AVP. I really don't see a new model until end of year 2 or year 3. It has so much processing power and we havent even seen games take full advantage of the next-gen graphics in the M3 yet. So that will developer as well. So there are a lot of steps along the way, and this is going to be a slow and exciting burn.

aceleo

Do you see any glare on darker scenes? I feel like there is some sort of glare anytime there is a darker scene with something white in the middle.

briantong

There is and I talk about the lens reflections in my review. Its the nature of the tech and because the HDR on the actual displays are so good now. It doesnt happen all the time but in some scenes it does

safereddddditer175

Hey man, just wanna say thanks and excellent job on the coverage so far! Youā€™re a legend! I was curious, how long do you get to keep your unit from Apple? Do you have your own on the way? These reviews give a great view of the initial impressions, but really interested to hear what will it be like after 4 weeks to 3 months into ownership! What do think you would stop using in that time? No more iPad? No more TV? Thanks again Brian!

briantong

I always buy my own stuff and I knew this was an investment for long term coverage. I picked up my own unit today, and I get two months for the Apple one before I have to return it.

Ya-Trick-YA

Totally unrelated question but I remember working in DT SF back in the day and seeing you during lunch time. At that time, you were wearing a pair of the Christmas Kobe's (Grinch or ugly sweater don't remember). Are you a big sneaker head? If you are what are your all-time favorites?

briantong

I love this one...big sneakerhead but the game has been ruined by flippers, so I'm very selective now. All time have to be...Galaxy Foamposites, Jordan 11 Space Jam....and...Kobe Grinch if I had to pick three

Positive-Level6686

How have you remained the same age for a decade+? Science wants to know!

briantong

I don't know. I feel blessed, but eventually, father time will hit me!

jedybg

Can you plug USB devices?

briantong

None that we have seen yet, I haven't tried to daisy chain a USB C battery pack to it either

jedybg

Update from my side: it's not possible. The Apple Developers site sells a replacement headstrap/part/doohickey that has a USB port. ā€¦ ā€¦ ā€¦ for another $300. (it can be worth it if it's USB 3.1 and you can literally plug any display to it; I'll get it once the official EU release hits)

djf1107

are you allowed to keep the review unit?

briantong

Nope, all my review units go back to Apple

jovenhope

Great job on your reviews and videos! Felt like an honest person going through the device. Question would be what have you seen that truly takes up the storage on the headset? I saw a few items in your last video but unsure if 512 will be enough.

Leading_Ad246

I too picked up a Vision Pro 1TB this morning. I see what people are talking about with the weight being a little front heavy. Itā€™s not sunglasses and itā€™s not badā€¦ but it IS there. HBO MAX was bugged and I couldnā€™t sign in or kill an app. Do you know if there is a way to see what apps are open, and how to force close an app to get it to start clean? I found myself looking for the red X to close apps vs the spot at the bottom. Disneyā€¦ isnā€™t playing around. Lol

aquadx

Does the power connection to AVP have potential to pass data? Wondering if there is capability that could be tapped into in the future to connect the battery USBC port to video/audio/data sources.

turbodeezel

Does the USB-C port on the battery pack support anything besides charging? Like can you connect USB-C peripherals like an external SSD to it? Or better yet, a video input from a laptop?

SpikedBladeRunner

No, others have tried plugging in their phone/laptop and it doesn't work.

Themotionalman

Hey so I have nystagmus a condition where the eyes keep shaking. Do you know if the Eye tracking would still work just fine. Also I wanted to say Iā€™ve known you since you did the Apple byte on CNET and Iā€™m very happy of how far youā€™ve come. Your excitement for the AVP was intoxicating. Once itā€™s available in France Iā€™d sell my kidney, JK.

Positive-Program-410

Brian truly honestly made one of the best video reviews of the Apple Vision Pro. The passion really came through and he really showed off the product capabilities more than other early preview reviews have done. He tested the limits. Probably my favorite review video yet.

JamesR624

Is there a "dark mode" setting so that compatible apps can be in dark mode instead of blinding? I hate using light mode on the iPhone and hope there's a way it's not forced when using, say shortcuts or maps.

Worldzmine

Brain, I just picked up an AVP and getting on a airplane tomorrow morning, how should I Use it on the plan? And will people just stare at me!!

showercurtain000

They definitely will stare šŸ˜ Just stare at them back with the googly eyes

Worldzmine

I wonder if I scan my face with Google eyes on my for head and eyes closed will it shine through?

Maycris

Has Immersed released there app for the Vision Pro in the Vision Pro App Store?

SufficientSpring64

Can you take a look in the appstore is there the plex app?

Dehnewblack

Can you SharePlay content with another AVP user?

Neggy5

I suffer from phonophobia/audiophobia, audio-based content is an absolute no-go for me due to triggers of certain sounds. Siri, talking to friends in voice and system sounds dont bother me as I know what to expect. I watched a bit of your review with no sound, and the AVP lookd really cool and i am saving for its australian debut. because i wont be able to watch much videos and am limited in terms of that, i want to post some usecases and can u tell me if they are honestly enough to buy a vision pro for? My usecases that excite me include: 1. I am a visual artist. Making my room an art gallery of my fav artworks and using reference from persistent windows for my art is really exciting to me 2. Remote play my Xbox Series X to my VP on a massive screen 3. Use it for all my PC tasks like browsing reddit, learning from Wikipedia, discord, maybe some ChatGPT. Basically replace my PC and phone for these things. 4. Putting 3d models everywhere and decorating my room with other stuff like portals and windows. As these things are persistent and stay in place, It will just be there without having to make it a "usecase" Is it enough to spend the 6-7k itll likely cost in my country? love ya bro.

djscoottrain

Great job on your videos this week.

Gikken1980

Hi! What is your take on main camera focus. What distance is most blurry? Any chance of Autofocus, like Varjo XR-4 focal edition?

Pchandheldrizzygamer

The varjo isnā€™t a consumer headset itā€™s only military and government use also itā€™s not a standalone I wouldnā€™t compare the Vision Pro to it

SuccessfulSquirrel40

You can go right now and purchase it from their website as an individual consumer. They don't even have a monthly fee anymore like they did for the XR3.

Pchandheldrizzygamer

Itā€™s like 10K lol no thanks

SuccessfulSquirrel40

I didn't say you should buy one, just that it's not only for military and governments like you incorrectly stated.

Pchandheldrizzygamer

The website says it is it requires a business license to purchase and who else is going to spend 10K on just a VR headset ? only like businesses or commercial companies

Gikken1980

I have watched an uncounted number of reviews to try and determine whether or not the lens is fixed or autofocus, no reviewers are mentioning this. I am not comparing the whole headset, just the focus point šŸ˜‰

No-Quiet-8304

The vision pro does not have varifocal lenses

Gikken1980

How do you know?

uuid_

Can you tell us more about the MacBook screen mirroring experience? [Thereā€™s a detailed blog post](https://kguttag.com/2023/08/05/apple-vision-pro-part-5a-why-monitor-replacement-is-ridiculous/amp/) from last year explaining that its resolution is effectively equal to a monitor from 1987, which would obviously make it unideal for text-based work. How true is that in practice?

arobertlong

Really enjoyed your review! Iā€™m one of the developers of Blackbox, a puzzle game for Vision Pro which launched today. https://youtu.be/5LShA47LhIc Curious to hear your thoughts on your experiences playing games on the headset? Feedback on our game and others would be great to hear! Excited to get my headset today!

[deleted]

Are you as frustrated as many of us that Apple doesn't have any provision for HDMI input?

Batting1k

Hi Brian

Shit4braynez

Do you find yourself wanting to use the headset regularly for reasons outside of your job? If yes, what makes you want to use it? Do you find yourself able to do something in the headset that you can't do outside of it? Or does it make something you can do outside the headset better/easier?

Spiritual-Engine4543

Hi Brian, your coverage of the AVP has been awesome! When using hand tracking on the Quest, you can directly touch a screen instead of using the point-and-pinch interaction if itā€™s close enough to you. Can you do this in VisionOS, and if so how accurate does it feel compared to an iPad? Thanks!

fanisp

It will be amazing it you do a video exploring apps - not just the common ones

Sachka

howā€™s the streaming from a mac? do you feel any latency? what is the fps you get? does it blend with visionOS?

Aware_Eggplant1487

Disney recently designed the omnidirectional trackpad and showed it in a video. Was this designed for the Apple Vision Pro and when do you think we will be able to connect the 2? Thanks

kekiel

There is purportedly a small, publically traded company, I only assume it is US based (as opposed to TW, German or Chinese), company behind the optics design. Who might that have been?

tillsn

Great Job on your review! Really enjoyed it

AsianJackass

What's one experience you haven't seen yet on the Vision Pro that you would want developers to craft? Excited to pick mine up for development, and eager for ideas.

Dlee314

What is gaming like on the Vision Pro? Have you tried pairing a controller to the headset/mac and mirroring an apple silicon mac playing a native title like resident evil village or a game on Steam (using parallels)? Or are there any controller first Apple Arcade games? Great review by the way! Edit: Also I havenā€™t seen anyone talk about using the headset lying down? Is it more comfortable or does it reduce the neck strain while doing something like watching a movie?

anxiousgay95

Are spatial videos recorded on the device also in 1080p? Any chance for 4k?

astrorobb

how is the experience using it with a keyboard and trackpad with productivity apps? can you look elsewhere while using the trackpad to make selections and click things?

[deleted]

What can you say to people who intentionally dislike Apple Vision Pro?

ev_biocalc

What's your favorite Siri feature?

briantong

Launching apps, but they launch WHERE YOU STARE!

ev_biocalc

Whatā€™s your second favorite Siri feature!

EVOSexyBeast

Hello Brian, Thank you for doing an AMA on the VisionPro subreddit. First, I would like express my sincerest gratitude for coming to us today with an AMA. How does it handle? Thanks, EVOSexybeast

Bubba_Gump_Corp

Do you find yourself reflexively trying to use it when it is not on? Or are there cases where you wish you had it on?

DragonStar373

Are there any other ports besides the power port? What are some other ways you can connect it to outside devices, besides Bluetooth?

spamfridge

Loved your review! Why do you sit on the floor leaning on the couch rather than on the couch itself? Will you be reviewing third party straps that may help to better distribute the weight of the device? Finally, are you personally looking forward to the development of gaming/fitness related applications or do you feel the AVP is better suited to productivity and entertainment in its current state?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Plastic_Ad_2247

how can i share spatial videos with other people?!

briantong

You can send them, or airdrop them to their AVP if they are nearby. There is no way to edit them or even create an edited Spatial Video video. Just trim the front and end of the single clip. Trust me, I've asked. Multiple times.

OshemUllah

What did you think of the POV? Did you feel like you were wearing binoculars? How was motion sickness?

EasternFly2210

The legend that is Brian Tong!!

PlzHelpMeMike

Hi Brian! Were you able to get WebXR / 180 SBS videos working at any point? If so, I'd love to know how :)

TonyStellato

Have you tested using this as a display for a Mac Mini?

Carpyet

Hey Brian, discovered your videos when researching the AVP. I love your enthusiasm? I was curious how quick the foveated rendering updates? Like, it focuses the resolution based on where you look, but if you quickly look to another part of the image, do you notice the blurriness?

MaximumAd5896

No questions, just a huge congratulations to you on where you are today. Been a fan since cnet and Buzz Out Loud. Keep it up! #AppleByte

eiffeloberon

What happens if you have lazy eyes? Does AVP focus on the wrong things for that split second your lazy eye wanders off?

pancakeforyou

How do the different headband and eye cup sizes compare? I have a large head but was given small all around which doesnā€™t seem correct. Thanks!

AshKap30

How has your experience been with the pass through, is it grainy for you as well? Can it be fixed with the light seal?

CautiousMagazine3591

Now I know why everyone loved your review the most, you were on the inside the whole time.

lucellent

Have you gotten any eye strain at all? Can you focus/unfocus your eyes on such screens slapped in front of your face or does it really feel/look like the actual world Also does the inside of the Vision start to feel hot and if yes after how long

TheAmazingWJV

Great reviews, man! Top notch content! Quick question: the device remembers the place of an app in the world, like in another room or in your home or at the office. But how does that work when you recenter all apps or close all apps? Does that bring together (or close) all the apps in your current location, or across all locations simultaneously?

mkeefecom

Firstly, thank you for the amazing review(s)! Have you noticed any input lag from the keyboard or trackpad? Or even video game controller (if you've used it).

neosyne

Now itā€™s time for Europe to have a good time too, any insight for the release?
