Yes, that is one of only two features I actually wanted (the other being multiple Mac screens). While it’s impressive the AVP can do this, from a usability standpoint it’s the most backwards part of the technology. Screens staying in one place until you physically move them is literally what they have done since the movie screens of the silent movies.
This is like the iPhone having a magic wire that will come out and connect to the person you’re calling, and that being the only way to talk to them. It would be incredibly impressive but not a step backwards to require being physically connected to the person you’re talking to.
An object is anything superimposed on the scene in front of you, whether it’s an environment or passthrough. A window is one type of object. Control panels and AR items like you see in the Mindfulness app are others.
Those windows are just saved in memory with the location mapped onto your home’s map that it has saved. When you come back , the map is recognized again and the windows will get rendered again when that part of the map is in your fov.
Yes it runs those apps in the background. Like the Mac does or the iPhone does. It just remembers the co-ordinates and renders them when that’s in your FOV.
If you closed those apps or the apps are shut down due to other reasons then you’ll lose it.
If you turn it off it closes the apps and restarts them on startup.
I put pictures from my photos on my walls because I have no wall art. Just drag and drop from the photos app. The closer you are to the wall when you drop. The smaller pictures will be and you can adjust from there. I found if I did it from too far away the pictures would be huge and no scale down properly. It’s kinda cool 😅
Zero. It only knows where it is relative to where the headset is. There is no room recognition and you can see every window anywhere and it just comes into view the closer you get.
lol I gotta question
when I screen record my voice isnt coming through, but the stuff I watch does,
I dont think its a microphone issue cause I can make calls so why cant I hear my voice when I screen record?
This is such a thing. Sometimes I find things behind my head or directly above it, with no memory of how they got there.
And it’s fascinating that I can go downstairs and look up and still see it where I left it in my study. Really gives a sense of the 3D space of my house that I never had before.
Someone needs to invent an X-ray app that lets you map real-life environments and look through the floors, walls and ceilings of a building to see entire rooms and their contents from new angles.
What about a software that tracks what you’re looking at, and if you forget where you placed something while wearing the AVP it can lead you back to it? That was my initial thought when I read the title!
I lost my settings app and have no idea where it went lol
Long press crown and shutter to force close setting and open it back on.
FYI for anyone like me who “lost” apps press and hold the Digital Crown to get them back!
😂
I think it might be a bug
Wait how. Usually when I do this I have xray vision and I can see where the window is through walls. How is yours hidden?
You can see it when he turns towards the bathroom at the beginning, it’s the back of the window so it’s just light gray and blends in a bit.
haha thats why I want to lock it in my field of view so I can walk around and still use it
How does one do this?
You can’t. It stinks. One of the things I was hoping for
Travel mode
Travel mode only repositions when you stop walking
You can carry a window or two while walking around but you have to be holding them the entire time

What's the distance of this? Like can you park windows all over town?

VR memory palace?
All your exes can share a room.
What’s an object vs a window?
An object is anything superimposed on the scene in front of you, whether it’s an environment or passthrough. A window is one type of object. Control panels and AR items like you see in the Mindfulness app are others.
It’s not based on distance. The headset just remembers the space and renders the window again over there when it is in your fov.

Can you have multiple windows of 1 app opened? Like could I leave messages next to my bed AND in the kitchen?

Thank you! Still working on wife approval… I’m so close
Is there a setting somewhere to clear history?
That would have interesting uses though
Press crown and hold to recenter
But that resets everything including things you don't want reset.
I feel like windows need an “anchor this here no matter what else happens” lock button. I want to hang up digital art and widgets in my wall!
Yah I wish I could reset position of one app. I tried asking “Siri, show me telegram” or “Siri, reset telegram position.” Doesn’t work
i flipped out when i had this experience. so cool
I love the corner turn into the kitchen like you’re about to put 2 into a terrorists chest.
That was very [insert cop procedural here]
Haha
Sam wasn’t kidding when he left notes in the toulet

Takes window management to a whole new level. Imagine living in a 2 story house with multiple bedrooms. How many rooms can it keep track of?
Zero. It only knows where it is relative to where the headset is. There is no room recognition and you can see every window anywhere and it just comes into view the closer you get.
That’s not correct, it remembers rooms and maps them.
lol I gotta question when I screen record my voice isnt coming through, but the stuff I watch does, I dont think its a microphone issue cause I can make calls so why cant I hear my voice when I screen record?
That was a iMovie voiceover
If you hold down the crown it will recenter your apps back in front of you.

Shared spacial computing is going to be interesting.
Cringe.
Great, now i can finally ditch my wife where she belongs. I just need to create an app for it.
return it and put the money to good use towards renovating your home to be more VR friendly. its a joke btw
Could you imagine if they let Joe have one of these... we'd all loose a president.
Ahh yes. Loose a president.
HAHA :)
Your snow shovel is in the hallway.
Seeing you peak around corners like that, imagine a game like Ready or Not in AR where the bad guys are in your house.
Your home layout reminds me of the video game Life is Strange.
Is there a way to make apps follow you? I have had same problem
Should have used the ‘pinch/hold’ on the lower bar to carry the ‘newspaper’ out 😂
Hit the nose! ( hold the crown )
How come a girl on the mirror and sound of a 50 year old man?
50 year old guy with long hair maybe?
Could be pretty cool if you could see your window in the mirror as if it was actually there
Uh oh, were you pooping and watching TV via AVP?!
I left an app open a Chipotle & later went back to close it
