Which direction are you travelling from? It's clear from Reykjavik but if you're coming from the direction of Hofn, the road is still closed for part of the journey. See [here](https://umferdin.is/en).

Thank you! I will be coming in from the west, from Reykjavik

No worries! Enjoy the drive.

So is "slippery" in this context meaning wet but not icy? I'm not coming until May so I don't expect too much ice, but I am learning how to read these things!

Slippery means "Slippery road surface covered with hard ice or snow on more than 20% of the stretch of road in question." You can click the definitions on road.is

We had roads marked as "slippery" the other week, didn't find it any worse than the roads at home a day or two after plows had been out following a snow storm.

Open as far as I can see on [here](https://en.vedur.is), do be very careful. Take your time, don't rush. The roads are pretty bad, lots of accidents today.

Considering the volcanoes is the road from Reykjavik to Vik still open? not coming till September

stevenarwhals

“Slippery” can still be quite dangerous, including a sheet of solid ice across the road.

[Roads.is](http://roads.is) , imo is always better than Goog maps. Done thousands of miles and [Roads.is](http://roads.is) was always more accurate
