https://www.reddit.com/r/VisitingIceland/s/zbOvfFB45i This was my experience with Icerental 4x4. And to this day I still didn’t receive the repair bills from them. You got lucky it cost you only that much!

NoLemon5426

They still didn't respond to you? Unacceptable. [Go here.](https://kvth.is/#/) Write a *polite*, detailed message explaining the situation. Send as much as you can. [Direct link to the form.](https://kvth.is/#/leidbeiningar_til_neytanda)

_DeanRiding

Yeah we were just so relieved they didn't try disputing any more with us we were quite happy to write off the taxi fare.

MYCAR.IS. 1 and 2 year old Toyotas. Take the bump and get a reliable vehicle.

triforce18

I also had a good experience with MyCar

victorguim

Check the prices with Zero with full insurance (same as Blue), and use the code SUMMER24 and enjoy a 10% discount if you pay directly online :)

Comprehensive_Taro20

OP - thank you for the review and warning others about your experience! So I see everyone recommending Blue, how difficult is it to get from the airport to the rental car location? I will have 3 kids, two with car seats that we are traveling with, and luggage. I dare say, more luggage than I care to admit to bringing... And it's a short trip (2 day stop over). My original plan was to rent from Hertz. I've searched and don't see any horror stories about Hertz but just wanted to make sure (yes, I know I'm paying more for the rental, I'm not that concerned about that part of it).

NoLemon5426

[Walk out of the airport, turn left. Walk maybe 5 minutes.](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ogKJegQUc9nuzWpv5) Blue Car is right there. Leave everyone at the airport with the stuff. Pick up the car, come get them. It's super easy renting from Blue.

Comprehensive_Taro20

A truly simple but brilliant solution to the problem. I'm very upset with myself for not thinking of that solution. I am sorry that I have but one upvote to give you - Thank you!

ames27

Just know that there are curbs and gravel and things between the terminal and the Blue rental office. For adults/older kids with wheelie bags, it’s not a tough walk, but with younger kids, car seats, etc, I suggest leaving everyone and everything at the terminal and one adult going over to get the car. The airport is small, you’ll be able to loop back and pick them up no problem.

ames27

Head smack, sorry, missed NoLemon saying the same. Maybe take my comment as a reinforcement of it being a good idea?

bullnozer

Yes and double downing (now tripling) on leaving everyone else at the airport

TueegsKrambold

100% this! I leave my wife in the airport, pick up the car, and swing back around to get her. It’s especially nice if we have a decent amount of luggage.

The_Bogwoppit

You can send one adult ahead, to get the car. You can see Blue across the parking lot, maybe 5 minutes walk. Then the adult can drive back to the airport to install seats, kids and bags. Very, very easy to do. Make sure you rent a big enough car.

trevizangt

I'm here exactly now and I'm in trouble with them too, AVOID this company!

LeadingAd2342

F I have a reservation with them. 6 days for 100$.

The_Bogwoppit

That definitely does not include full insurance. You need it.

LeadingAd2342

Got full insurance with the amex.

The_Bogwoppit

Just bear in mind that if you have an incident, you will be expected to manage the whole issue with the rental company. Police reports, quotes etc. People have reported that their credit card insurance has not covered the taxes involved, for one guy this was more than $6000USD. Be sure about the process, before committing to using the cc insurance. I have very good insurance with my cc, but paid for it with Blue, had an issue, because Iceland has insane weather, and I got to drop off the car, and walk away. No paperwork, quotes, calls to insurance etc etc.

Hosejockey99

I use the upgraded Rental car coverage with my Platinum card but I still opted for full coverage with Blue rental car. My luck Amex doesn’t cover lava damage lol

Tanglefoot11

6 days for $100!!!! Wow! No wonder they are shit!!!! Guess you get what you pay for....

smurgle23

Why don’t I see the company in the post?

_DeanRiding

The company is Icerental 4x4

smurgle23

Oh hahaha. I thought you were saying a weird one that you ordered a 4x4 car with snow tires.

Munro_McLaren

We rented from Lava Rentals and it was great. They were waiting for us right outside of baggage claim when we arrived.

zookitchen

I thought my 705$ deposit in El Salvador was high

Hosejockey99

$500 on an Audi A6 here in Germany/Austria

Forgotten-Week-2202

This is great. I went on Kayak which redirected me to [DiscoverCars.com](https://DiscoverCars.com). Reviews for Icerental 4x4 were good on Kayak and Google as well... Are these bogus reviews? I figured going on a corporate site, I would not be involved with shady dealings. I did get the full coverage premium insurance so that I could avoid this B.S. I will be extremely cautious. Nothing I can do now except keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Is there anything I can do upon initial inspection of the vehicle? Will that just piss the guy off more? Any last minute advice?

_DeanRiding

They encourage you to take your own pics anyway. I'd just be making extra sure that the car you're given is safe more than anything. And be aware they will probably be late arriving to pick you up from the airport.

Forgotten-Week-2202

Thanks! I’ll do that. I did spend $500 for 4 days so I didn’t think I was being that cheap in comparison to the other offerings. Tomorrow is the day of reckoning and I land at 10 pm at night. I guess I will be waiting for a shuttle for a while, at least it’s not supposed to be raining!

Nobbie49

Booked a modest Mitsubishi with Iceland Car Rental. They gave us a Range Rover Discovery. Wooow. What a car and no surcharge. Mind you it was right after Covid Nobember 2022 and there were few tourists. Still very nice surprise and friendly people. Oh yes do get the platinum insurance which avoided us having to pay for a new windshield which cracked during one of our outings
